      @@lindsaycooke5587 this is on calico here but I also often use linens, cotton twills or cotton plains!

    Does the tension on the surface stitch have to be consistant? Looks fun.

      Hi - it takes a bit of trail and error as you want to try leave the loops slightly loose to create the fringed effect, whereas if you pull the stands tight everytime you’ll lose that. So I recommend having a play to see what tension suits the aesthetic you are after, and definitely use an embroidery hoop!
