Why don't she said 'female' because it's obvious man and woman has different perspectives it may lead to clashes. So she will choose female despite the "equal" qualification.
Ideally, Male officer should have chosen Female and Female officer should have choosen male. Thus to understand any situation or thing from both genders point of view. I guess that's what also interviewer wanted to hear.
