New Prop guard: Couldn't agree more. Everytime I put that thing on, I feel like I'm crushing the drone 😕I like the velcro suggestion! I will definately try that instead.
I also have the Mini 4 Pro for about 2 weeks and am impressed from its stick coupling. It behaves much more exact to stick inputs than my old Mini 2. Also the video transmission is much more smooth on the RC2 than it was on my Mini 2 with a very good smartphone. I am used flying with video goggles and used Litchi app with cardboard-type goggles for the Mini 2. As DJI does not guarantee to add Mini 4 support to their SDK very soon if ever, I went for the RC2 instead of using a smartphone again. The RC2 supports display port over USB, so I was able to connect an USB-to-HDMI adapter and get the image onto my old white DJI goggles. But then I got aware of the Rokid Max AR Headset RM201 and wow, it works great! It works by just mirroring the RC2 screen 1:1, so you can still operate all menus on the RC2 screen while the goggles are connected. I now am flying as relaxed with these goggles as I did with Mini 2 and Litchi.
Waypoint question - can you fly a set of waypoints that are out of range of the RC2 (say you are launching in a closed in forest setting and want it to go abit further away) without it going into RTH mode due to loss of signal... and will it will fly the route then come back in range?
I love the waypoint feature on my M4P. I've created missions during the day and then gone back outside in the pitch black and it has repeated them nearly perfectly. Position in space, exact yaw and it puts the gimbal near exact even though the camera was completely blind. You can even run the missions while the drone is grounded. It will pop a confirmation, and once you confirm it will take off and execute the mission all by itself
I love the waypoints for construction site monitoring. I can fly the site once and set waypoints where I want to take pictures, and then in the future when I go back I don’t need to do anything besides just flying the mission. With my old drone I used to use Litchi to create missions which works, but it’s just so much quicker to do it while the drone is in the air.
It’s a shame about the active track. The rest of the drone looks pretty sweet though. I have a DJI Spark that I’ve had for like 6-7 years. I don’t use it much but mainly because the connection is rubbish and it’s a pain having to connect my phone to the controller via wifi every time. Considering upgrading to the Mini Pro 4 but I just need to make sure I use it so it’s worth it haha.
Just bought one a little over a month ago. It is my first drone and am having fun learning to use it and learning the legalities/formalities surrounding it. Glad that I bought care refresh because I had to get a replacement about two weeks in. Would encourage anyone purchasing a dji drone to get the coverage, especially if you are a new drone pilot. Thank you for putting this video together! It is extremely helpful and informative!!
I'm surprised there werent any negative comments about the build quality. I had mine 24 hours and one of the arms broke off. Hi. I’m more in photography. Have a Mini 3 pro and a Mavic 3. Would use the last one exclusively when there is more need for more dynamic range or filming. But turned out that I’m using almost all the time the Mini 3 pro, so easy to grap and use. As a photographer I must say that for the most of the shots I’m using the 48mp mode even for panoramas. When light conditions are harder I’m taking most of the time two shots with 2-3 stops difference and blend them in LR (one exposure for the foreground and one for the sky. Why the 48mp mode: did several tests and found that the resolution is higher than the 12mp pictures. Test is easily done by taking pictures with text in the shot. All this is at the cost of less DR and more noise…sadly. The 48mp mode is also asking for higher shutter speeds. Maybe that’s why some people don’t see the difference between the 12 and 48mp mode. So come to my questions to you think it’s worth upgrading as a photographer, does the pano mode and HDR mode involve 48mp mode as well ? Thank you nice video by the way. Hey! awesome video. I´ve seen like 15 different reviews of the mini 4 pro before buying it and i really think that yours is the better one. It seems like they improved the tracking. For me it works really well.
Hello, beautiful video bravo. I have a question on a subject you did not address in your video about Hawaii it's the wind. I went there in May and several times I couldn't take out my drone because of the wind (anafi parrot) especially on the pill boxes. I'm aiming to go back there soon. Have you been embarrassed by the wind with the Mini 4 pro?
I'm thinking about taking up drone flying. Your image is reflected in the R2 screen at several places in this video. Also, the brightness of this screen (at 700 nits) seems much less than what I have on my Samsung Galaxy23 Ultra, which is 1,750 nits. Have you compared the brightness and clarity of the R2 screen compared to that of smartphone?
A smartphone is always gonna be brighter and alsways gonna overheat or go into “heat mode” and dim down making it unusable in high temp climate. Rc2 does not dim and have a consistent nit of 700.
@@RobHK Thanks for your reply. Odd that DJI would incorporate smartphones for module screens if they overheat and are essentially worthless. I also find it strange that several Google links state that the RC2 is much brighter than any smartphone. Here is one of many statements, "The DJI Smart Controller provides brightness up to 1000cd/m2, showing clear details even under direct sunlight and making it an optimal tool for outdoor use. For reference, an average smartphone display offers a brightness of approximately 500-705 cd/m2." As I mentioned in my earlier comments, my Galaxy 23 Ultra has a screen that puts out 1,750 nits.
Great video. Thinking of buying one. I live in Canada but planning to spend a few months in Italy and Spain. Is there a problem using this model in Sardinia or Mallorca? Any problem carrying the unit and batteries as carryon onto flights? Thanks.
I understand how time consuming editing is and you did it with precision. I am just trying to figure out what people really want to see. They just want to see my rabbits😢
Hi I was wondering did you have any issues with taking away with you . Because I'm from the UK and looking to take mine to Spain in march.so did you have to get any other licence when you went ??
Looking at other video reviews this is as bad as he described. What's more, loads of people crashed their drone on active track as the sensors are worse than on M3P.
@@mjanek20 I’ve watched literally almost every single active track video for this drone on RUclips (even the ones in languages I don’t speak) and in most of these videos the ones that crashed they crashed because they’re cycling through a forest of trees or something similar. What he’s complaining about in the video is that it can’t even lock tracking on him consistently. I’ve seen 15 min long videos of people testing active track thoroughly and the drone never lost tracking or mislabeled people as boats or whatever. I think his drone is defective…
PROBLEM is, these “test” you’ve seen and tests done in test environments or test done as a sponsored product review…. My “test” is the actual use of active track when I’m out trying to have a good time. So my “test” is based on real life use and not a “Active track feature test” I have 3 hours of active fail I didn’t include in this video as it would make it boring.
@@RobHK wow, again that’s why I’m asking to understand… I’ve seen many fail videos but the fact that it can’t even lock tracking on you for a few seconds when you’re casually walking like that is quite extreme though. I disagree that all the videos that I watched are sponsored, I know that and the ones that are sponsored I definitely take with a grain of salt. Ive seen people test the drone for a full battery (continuous shot) and the drone performed adequately (definitely nothing mind blowing as the sponsored ones make it seem, but adequately and relatively significantly better than other DJI drones). It’s hard to cherry pick or edit out a continuous shot like that.
Have u been able to fast charger batteries directly in the drone? i got told to return a 2 day old drone because of that but this new drone still dont charger fast i didnt buy the fly more combo i dont have the hub but my mini 3 charges pretty fast all the time any toughts?
Could the problems you were having with "active tracking" have anything to do with the dark colour of your rucksack, I wonder? The sensors might not be able to pick up dark subjects well (which I discovered when I drove my car backwards into a black post!)
Does anyone know if UTM or Lat / Lon shows anywhere on the control module ?….ie…if, in a search and rescue situation, a subject is identified below the drone. Is there a way of knowing where the drone is at that moment, in UTM or Lat / Lon. If anyone knows, the info would be greatly appreciated. Thx.
@robhk my last trip was also to Hawaii and I brought the Mavic 3 Pro. I flew in some insane winds which was the main reason I picked that over the Mini 3 for that trip. BUT any trip to less windy locations, the Mini 4 Pro is the go to.
@RobHK - Thanks to this video and many other positive reviews by others, I plan to grab a Mini 4 Pro shortly as it seems to have compelling pro features. And me considering DJI again says a lot as I'm an old Mavic Mini driver and swore I would never buy another DJI drone again as I have the castrated CE version here in Thailand. Signal interference has made my Mini nearly useless thanks to controller/camera lag latency beyond 100-150 meters in urban areas. Out in the country away from dense home WIFI and cell towers, it's a great camera bird and great flyer within 1km range. Sadly, filming Thai rice farms gets boring quickly. I'll be going with the standard controller since I have a 10" Android tablet that works great with the Mini 1. The RC-N1 is also a better choice for the Drone-Tweaks FCC hack. I'm also going with the Mini 3 Pro Plus battery kit since slightly more power than Mini 4 Plus. Wish me luck & Regards from CE HELL Thailand!
Just got a DJI Mini 4 pro b4 Xmas and I'm loving the little thing. It does exactly what I input into the controller and I always have confidence it'll come home in time to land safely, and it does. You know what they say, "Safety First" but sometimes I have to turn off the safety settings to go where I want it to go but that's ok because I live my life with my own safety settings on most of the time but sometimes I'll fly by the seat of my pants, it's all part of the excitement of flying a drone 🏴☠️🚁

Great video. New Subscriber. New DJI Mini 4 Pro owner. Glad I a not the only one having trouble with the prop guard - hard to believe a company lets this design out. The WavePoints and POI are amazing. Living near ocean and taking drone to mountain area tomorrow. Our area here on an island in the Philippines is very similar to Kihei, Maui with ocean in front and moutains behind in a dry area. If you go to Maui stay on the the dry side (Kihei or Wailea) and can explore the rest of the island from there. Some amazing spots there for you drone footage and skip the big city skyscrapers. After a week or two with family it was always nice to end with a few days in O'ahu - not sure where you stayed on O'ahu stayed at Sheraton Waikiki a few times - an amazing infiniti pool with the orange bean bag chairs. Keep up the great content.
Hi Rob, just a thought but the problem with the active track could be caused by bright/strong light confusing the sensors? Maybe it will improve with ND filters or firmware update like you mentioned ? My Mini 4 arrived a couple of days ago and love it. I sold my Mavic 2 Pro after the advice I found from watching your videos leading up to the release of the mini 4. Glad I made the switch as I wasn't going to take a drone on my next travels but now will. Thanks.
Could be, but i had the issue where the sun dont shine as well, so no difference tbh. But waypoints adds up for the poor tracking and is the main reason i got this🙌🙌🙌
Great video! Have you had any issues with obstacle avoidance? I’ve had my M4P for about a week now and I’ve come across a few issues. Active track has been all over the place and abit too sensitive. Flight time I haven’t yet managed I get over 20 minutes. Obstacle avoidance has been intermittent. Managed to crash into a large branch in good lighting. Sun behind the drone so no dazzling light. Really clear on the playback of the video but made no attempt to avoid. It caused the drone to hit the floor and then automatically fly vertically up at quite a speed! Also it attempted to auto land over water at 20% battery. I upgraded from a Mini 2 so was excited for this new drone, but I’m nervous now more than excited !
Oh man 🫣 seems like you’ve had quite the journey already. But no issues with the avoidance here, it actually performed very well in all conditions. Both in the forest and during bright harsh light with smaller almost invisible branches.
I appreciate the honest take. I’m so tired of constant hype channels not pointing out any cons other than the obvious ones. Thanks for always keeping it real Rob.
Question…HOW did you get the batteries for drone into an airplane? I thought batteries on an airplane was a no no due to fire explosion hazard or terrorist issue? Just curious on that. You had to fly to Hawaii from The United States.
I returned mine and got the air 3 The mini 4 Pro feels cheap and I don't like them legs on the arms the drone would of been alot nicer if they didn't put them legs on the arms The air 3 feels premuim I'm happy now
I too use a prop guard frim my Mini 3 as it is so much easier to use. I tried others LUTS and have not liked any. I can edit color as needed, however, don't do color grading but prefer what comes out of the Mavic 3 and have not decided on the Mini 4 pro, however, their built in camera software color seems quit good.
I got the M4 Pro to be my field camera for my other channel (and replace gopro) Active track did great "most" of the time and unfortunately I sat down to edit footage and find out that I had a headless shot for one of the scenes :( So moving forward I will have to keep the drone back a little further than desired so that this does not happen until they fix this with FW update.
Thanks.
6:08. the guy in the left bottom corner swimming with the wave got crushed against the ocean floor by the wave. I hope he was ok.
I was thinking about doing edits in beat with music but now I am thinking it is not necessary after watching it done
I understand how time consuming editing is and you did it with precision. I am just trying to figure out what people really want to see. They just want to see my rabbits😢
Curious, could obstacle avoidance have been preventing it from circling left. You were on a cliff.
Hi, do you have any recommendation on where to best fly the drone in Honolulu, Hilo and Kailua Hawaii?
Which DJI Goggles do you recommend for mini 3/4?
Hi I was wondering did you have any issues with taking away with you . Because I'm from the UK and looking to take mine to Spain in march.so did you have to get any other licence when you went ??
No, just make sure its registered with the FAA and label your drone
Change the color of your backpack to a lighter color. It might help the tracking.
Yup, next time he will put on an invisible cloak and will complain. The tech isn't magic, how marketers like to present.
Only person that complained so much about active track on this drone. Yes they all have issues but it cannot be as bad as you described, is it?
Looking at other video reviews this is as bad as he described. What's more, loads of people crashed their drone on active track as the sensors are worse than on M3P.
Lol… and what does that tell you? He is not paid by DJI..
So my “test” is based on real life use and not a “Active track feature test”
I have 3 hours of active fail I didn’t include in this video as it would make it boring.
Thanx for the video. It was very informative. Please tell me what watch u wearing?
Hi Rob. Are their any issues with taking a drone on a commercial flight?
Nope👍
Thank you. Enjoying your videos.
How is the picture and video quality compared to the Mavic 2 pro's Hasselblad?
Have u been able to fast charger batteries directly in the drone? i got told to return a 2 day old drone because of that but this new drone still dont charger fast i didnt buy the fly more combo i dont have the hub but my mini 3 charges pretty fast all the time any toughts?
What if you like to track the front, if your on a motorcycle
Could the problems you were having with "active tracking" have anything to do with the dark colour of your rucksack, I wonder? The sensors might not be able to pick up dark subjects well (which I discovered when I drove my car backwards into a black post!)
There is a way in the settings to help recognize more things on the active track
Hiking in flipflops ... priceless 😀😀😀 Don't forget the mandatory hiking boots with white socks on the beach adventure,
Does anyone know if UTM or Lat / Lon shows anywhere on the control module ?….ie…if, in a search and rescue situation, a subject is identified below the drone. Is there a way of knowing where the drone is at that moment, in UTM or Lat / Lon.
If anyone knows, the info would be greatly appreciated.
Thx.
I really need this in a 1 minute short please
Was that night mode footage in the end shot with a lense filter or were rhe videos post edits? It looks r3ally nice
All shots are editied unless anything else is stated in the video👍
My DJI mavic air has just died and I'm looking to get a new drone. Have you seen any specs on the DJI mini pro 5?
Love my mini 4 Pro, started with mini 2SE, it's my favourite drone mini 4pro I a happy drone pilot
Great video, thank you !!! The only thing im a bit worried about is ..flipflops on your hiking trips ! 😂💪🏻
My feet don’t see sunshine for 8 months a year. They were screaming bro! Had to pull’em out 🫣
You mentioned a link to the mini 4 pro cheat sheets. I'm only seeing a link for the mini 3 pro cheat sheets. Am I missing something?
How did you get a permit to fly at night?
You apply for it👍
how is the stability with strong wind on beaches or high areas ?
Good
I agree with you 100% regarding the mini 4 pro prop guard. Too tight for comfort.
You didn't say if you are using the standard batteries or extended batteries. You should also say you land the drone at what percentage batt.
Agreed about what percentage at landing.
Do you have the free mini 4 pro cheat sheets for all functions?
At 3:40, you talk about battery time. Was this with standard battery or Plus battery. (Put a splash up on screen to let viewers know.)
Standard. Given that there was surprisingly not that windy on the island🥵
Possibly a stupid question but if the drone weighs 249g on the nose wouldn't a filter take it a few grams higher?
You take off the “filter” which is already on, then replace it with nd. Same weight same dimensions
Can i take this drone to other countries for traveling?
Ya👍
I’m a little confused with my Mini 4 Pro. Where is the HDR setting for photos and video? Doesn’t the Mini 4 always shoot in HDR?
I like your t shirt where did you buy it, I’ll be in Oahu next month with my mini 4 pro and Mavic 3 pro
Can´t remember tbh, i´m not a shopper and i kinda hate shopping😅so i just grabbed it from a store i walked by near waikiki
Which is your favorite travel drone?
I only have the M3P, so that one by default lol. Might wait for the mini 5 pro to upgrade
Mini 2..
You mention LUTS at the very beginning, but for us newbies, please explain “LUTS” and when and how they are used. (Are these more for the advanced user who wants to edit their videos on programs like Adobe Premiere or Final Cut Pro?)
Check my online shop for more detailed explanations.
Thanks a lot man 🙌 we usually stay in a house, I don’t like crowds 😅🙆 But Maui is on the list sometime after Kauai🙌
I saw on another video that if the tree lacks thick leaves = danger ⚠️… with it being past fall now I would avoid trees as best as you can
I hear that small branches with no leaves cannot see
How good it is at high speed wind ?
Decent, footage is still usable and the drone can handle it, but the gusts are worse tbh
I just bought the DJI mini 4 pro fly more combo and it will be delivered tomorrow. Can't wait to try it out.
How is it so far? 😅
hiking with sandals! NICE!
Yeah, nothing better imo! + my white scandinavian toes gets a tan 😅
I just wondering how about the flight regulation about the battery mate?
sunset does not mean night.
What about the active 360 crashes all over the world. Any issues with your drone?
Haven’t noticed anything but the awful tracking algorithm. Its not the drone, its the firmware. Everything else works like a charm
Should I trade my Air2s in for the Mini 4?
depends on your needs really
Does the mini 4 pro have the stacked sensor ?
No, its pixel optimized
nice footage, which city is that at 17min
I appreciate the honest take. I’m so tired of constant hype channels not pointing out any cons other than the obvious ones. Thanks for always keeping it real Rob.
Thanks a lot mate🙌 appreciate it😊
Question…HOW did you get the batteries for drone into an airplane? I thought batteries on an airplane was a no no due to fire explosion hazard or terrorist issue? Just curious on that. You had to fly to Hawaii from The United States.
They are way less than 100 Whr each so they are good. Just google TSA Battery Rules 2023, they have a good site
Im pretty sure you can take them in your carry on. The same is true for laptop batteries.
get a lipo battery bag
You don’t need lipo bags. Its recommended but not mandatory. I will have a video on this coming up @blackpanther-yv7ib
@@Knoxvillemoto I always thought batteries weren’t allowed on planes.
Nice work, easy to follow
I bought a HS720G to see if I would use a drone.. but I now want this.. and I haven't even use the Holystone much hahah...
Great video. Thanks
Hi Rob, where do you recommend I purchase the filters you recommended for the mini pro 4? I’m in Australia ❤😊
I returned mine and got the air 3
The mini 4 Pro feels cheap and I don't like them legs on the arms the drone would of been alot nicer if they didn't put them legs on the arms
The air 3 feels premuim I'm happy now
The legs are antennas... It has improved range over the mp3
I too use a prop guard frim my Mini 3 as it is so much easier to use. I tried others LUTS and have not liked any. I can edit color as needed, however, don't do color grading but prefer what comes out of the Mavic 3 and have not decided on the Mini 4 pro, however, their built in camera software color seems quit good.
my pro 4 will be here at the end of the month, can`t wait!!! thanks for doing these video`s.
Awesome! 😎
That is def one of my favorite hikes in Oahu
Great review !! Are you still here in HAWAII ?
Back in the cold now 😩
@@RobHK ❄️🥶…I live here and cannot go back to cold weather no more 😅
ye... i came home to 1 degree celcius😅
@@RobHK 😱
Hi Rob! Great video! Thanks for sharing with us.... one question, how can I make sure my drone doesn't get attacked by birds? thanks for comment...
You can’t
Thanks for the new video 🙏
😃👍
@RobHK would you say the mini 3 pro active track and obstacle avoidance is better than the mini 4 even though the mini 3 pro has no side sensors?
Thank you for the honest detailed review.
Since your Signature LUT package is optimized for Rec.709, how do you use the same LUT for HLG footage?
HLG doesn’t generally need correction, so the LUT can just be applied straight on, 50% of the shots is HLG
Thanks for the great videos.
