They’re not a bunch of dime singers as you Americans say ! Although they didn’t have much success with “Leader Of The Pack” It was banned in England 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿! I Knew the song when I was younger but I didn’t know who it was by. Some Thirty Years Later I heard it again on a local radio station in Birmingham England. So what did these girls look like? They were street tough and I suppose that’s what one had to be in those days. Their legacy will not be forgotten for a long time. Over here in England we had The likes of Dusty Springfield Sandie Shaw Cilla Black etc. anyway forward to 2019 I heard on RUclips that Mary Weiss had an LP out called “Dangerous Game” I went to a record shop in Newcastle England I took a gamble and it paid off big time! Whoever you are try and get hold of it! It might change your mind about calling the Shangri-Las “Dime Singers”! Kind regards Kevin Simpson From Wallsend in England.

You didn’t mention that George “Shadow” Morton played a big part in the writing of Leader Of The Pack. Ellie gives him a lot of credit in another interview I’ve seen.

She can't really answer the question b/c she didn't write the song. We all know who did. She & Jeff got credit for getting Shadow in the door. Nice of them, huh ?

The Shangrilas, a bunch of dime a dozen singers, gave the genius song writer Ellie Greenwich a hard time. She should have fired them.

I disagree. They were not dime of dozen singers. They may of had attitude and had to be taught, but, they had talent. You can hear it in their songs and see it in the performances.

I'll bet it was the Ganser twins who did that. They seemed to be NY tough and mouthy but not all that bad and Ellie probably over exagerates it here.

My wife reminds me of one of those Gender girls. Yah tough girl from the big city. But with a little love and care she turned into a real sweet 💓.
