  • Quick demo of the headroom on the Laney Cub Super 12. I read a bit of negative feedback before buyings this guy, implying there was pratically no headroom! See what you think? I think its fine!
    Check out channel for videos on the Laney, lefty guitars and fun!
    Audio recorded with a Shure SM57, direct into logic with no post processing.

    Yes! You answered many questions with this, thanks. Going to pick up the head version to run through a 2x12, figure I can put a 5751 in V1 if I really need to knock more gain off the front.

    • @topherrrr92
      @topherrrr92 2 года назад

      Had a 5751 in v1 with the older version and it kept up with my drummer. I was running a Reaper hp with 99 dB sensitivity which helped. You could always run a pair of eminence speakers which are like 102 dB which would def allow it to keep ip

    Loud what does it mean. Well I was testing my Fender twin reverb amp 100 Watts with 2x 12L EV 300 W speakers when working with my amp tech moding the amp to have a varable effects loop installed. The amp was on the floor facing away from us in a medium sized room. It was difficult to turn it up near max volume. The amp is used for big venues. Still love it and use it if we have road crew as it is too heavy for my bad back.

    Is it a good Amp with distortion pedals in front? Have you tried a Blues Junior. Which is better for you?

    Thanks for the demo. I would have liked to have seen it with that 335, but it looks like headroom is pretty good tbh. Were the gain and boost at zero? Also, what is it like on the 1 watt setting? I guess that you can get good breakup at reasonable volume, right? Thanks again.

    Thinking of buying the cubsuper12 combo. Excuse my 'ignorance' but is the class AB tube system unusual? Is it an advantage to have this system in a low volume amp? Cheers Jane

    Yonlo compre estoy facinado . Nunca tube un valvular si quisiera tocar limpio y fuerte hay que poner el gain . Por que si uso solo el volumen a 10 se escucha despacio pero pongo el gain en 1 y se escucha fuerte . En cuanto se empieza a romper el sonido limpio en volumen y gaim

    I like a little break-up with a clean-tone achieved with dynamics, would the boost help with giving it a little break-up sparkle from playing harder?

    • @Agondonter777
      @Agondonter777 2 года назад

      Or would that just be a slight gain adjustment to achieve that kind of tone?

    I’d love to a comparison between the Laney Super-Cub amps and the Vox AC amps. Is this amp the equivalent of the the AC10C1 or the AC15C1 (volume-wise, especially)?

    • @richplaysguitar4890

      Closer to an ac10 then ac15. Has the volume but breaks up a lot earlier than the ac15

    I bought the super cub 15 watt head and 1x12 cab yesterday . I went to guitar guitar to buy a Marshall Origin 20 Combo but 1- they didn’t have any in the store and 2- I was persuaded not to buy one by the honest sales guy there lol …. I’ll let you know how I get on with mine . Thanks for the upload 👍🏻

      @@dan82dare I’m finding it quite a neutral kind of experience playing this head & cab . It doesn’t blow me out of the water but it’s definitely not a shit amp … I need to invest in a better cab I think with maybe one or two greenbacks in it . Then I may try the Marshall Origin .. Cool demo man. What do you think of the Cub Super 10, could it have a certain edge over the 12, maybe in terms of balance with the highs? Have you tried the Cub 10 before? If so, which of the two would you recommend? Thanks for any help, cheers!

  • @AussieCornerStudio
    @AussieCornerStudio 3 года назад

    HI Rich thank you for the demo, I'm wondering how different in sound they are in the clean head room and what if any changes to the crunch sounds this amp has compared to my Laney Cub12r? The reason is the asking price in Australia is over 600 Pounds. ($1000 AUS) That's for a item manufactured in China even though the Design is UK many brands are doing this After trying some extension cabs with my Cub12r this amp has great tones, I tried Orange 1 x 12 PPC closed back 2 x 12 Mesa Recto Cab a 1 x 10 Ampeg open back and lastly a 1x12 open back Blackstar with a 70/80 in it. Gotta say I'm impressed with the results. So it's the cab and speaker combination that might be the issue with the cub12r. If by chance you could do a side by side comparison to find out if Laney have done there home work and really made big changes to this circuit. Sorry sounding a little sceptical I found Blackstar had done this with some of there line up of amps with the same internals just altered the cosmetics TVP Silverline Ouch Got Ya Blackstar.

    Here are my two cents:
    I have tried A LOT speakers in this amp, modern and originals.
    For clean jazz tone the legend L 1218 is the best I have tried so far in it.
    A 16 ohmed G12T75 modern takes out the low mids so makes it sound very sparkly and fendery- good if you want to.
    A vintage V30 that had a dense steely tone- good for slide guitar.
    Greenbacks sound very woody, but are not my top choice.
    G1265- similar to the stock HH 1265 in many ways, very nice.
    The best was an EVM12L, original, in a thiele cab.
    And the best overall was an Eminence 16 ohm Lady Luck- unbelievable speaker.
    So good it make me email Eminence to ask for similar contemporary speakers of them (lady lauck is an OEM Emily speaker) and they informed me that their currently produced equivalents are the CV 75/ 65, Reignmaker, Governor and Legend L1275recommended- and they are correct, you may go with any of these!!!
    From Celestions for this amp I recommend:
    Alnico blue, gold, cream, ruby.
    G12H anniversary- not the Heritage.
    Any Creamback, especially the H75.
    V type first, A type second.
    G1265/ T75.
    70-80/ G12P80.
    From Eminence those I mentioned first plus the GA SC64 plus many others.
    From Jensen C12N, K2, P12.
    This amp packs a lot of punchiness, boominess and low mids due to circuit design and small enclosure so you may need to compensate for that with the speaker choices.
    It is a GREAT amp, totally recommended.

      The super Cub has absolutely no room for a vintage 12 or most of the others.

    If an Amp doesn't break up with the Volume pushed halfways or more, I'd call that a serious design flaw, but I see what you're doing there.

  • @nakedmusic8078

    I don't think you gave an accurate demonstration. You only played light strums, no power chords, you didn't attack the strings at all. If loudness was a problem where you were you should do it somewhere else where it isn't an issue.I think the problem with the Super Cub 12 is, it doesn't have a dedicated clean channel, which it should. I own a Laney VC 30 with a separate clean channel and there is no comparison. The VC 30 has way more headroom and sounds a lot cleaner. I would prefer an amp with a clean channel, no gain at all, then I can choose what pedals I would use to get the sound I want, not a manufacturer limiting my sound control with overbearing gain. I am disappointed with the clean sound from this amp and I am looking at removing the gain if that is possible. I would like to see a live comparison of this amp's clean sound with a Laney VC 30's clean sound or any tube amp for that matter.
