there is conspiracy theory: Skoda should look a bit less nice than VW - to avoid loosing VW clients... ;)
@@jarekaugustyn4598 It's not a conspiracy theory. VW are very unhappy about Skoda and they actually officially said that they want Skoda cars in the future to be cheap again and that they'll work on making Seat being more premium. Which actually doesn't make sense, because back when Skoda was first formed, long before VW, it was actually a luxury brand, while VW was imagined to be a cheap brand.
Great overview Thomas! The interior quality looks far more impressive than the Golf 8 for sure!

21:54 finally a real fastback in a small/mid sedan.
I wish more manufacturers made midsize 5 door sedans.

Even though I'm disappointed in the lack of physical temperature controls, I love the design in and out and once this comes out I want to make it my next car no doubt. Was considering a Scala but I'll rather wait for this.

As a premium manufacturer customer I must say I am really impressed with this car. Skoda has massively benefitted from being acquired by VW. This car is ultimate proof of it. For what you pay you get VW-esque quality which is a big plus point. So many plus points and no serious negative points to even mention.
Same here. As an Audi customer for many many years I must say that this preview of the upcoming Octavia impresses me. A lot of car for much less bucks. Kudos to Skoda for a well built car.

haha oh man I'm so glad you mentioned the hydraulic struts for the hood on the Octavia! I was complaining about them going on the Golf. This car is really beautiful looking and the interior is crisp and clean. I just can't see myself driving a sedan.
Sorry VW but Skoda took your place from the Golf with this new Octavia... Don't like the design of the front of the Golf nor do I like the interior screens, they look tacky and low resolution, it's like VW had a step back I prefer the MK7.5 Golf... but this Octavia looks good on the exterior good on the interior, great choice of design and materials used. I definitely would pick this over the Golf any time.... Now can't wait what Seat and Audi has to offer with the new Leon and A3... Thank you Thomas for the amazing overview of this car and many other cars!!
Hmm after that spec list I’d have to say, unless you want the badge and possibly the quality, and performance, why buy an Audi over this? Let alone a Golf 8. That’s a hell of a spec list! Good job Skoda. And that dash screen seemed really responsive and fast.

Wow, a revolutionary design, with a very interesting features
Glad to see small updates in interior quality, like soft touch material on the doors and knurled metal on parts like the wheel controls. Audi and Skodas steering wheel rollers are far better than VW's buttons, not to mention the touch controls found in competitors like Volvo.

That woman is doing what I do whilst listening to Thomas. As for the Octavia, it's shaping up to be a brilliant car.
Skoda always offered a slightly less posh VW for a much lower price. But this is way more impressive than any VW currently on offer except maybe the Touareg.

The funnel for the windscreen fluid is a very good idea. Always like a two-tone interior that looks brighter and spacious. Looking forward to the test drive.
Not a fan of Skoda but this is a solid car.

Skoda Suberb was the first one with that weird design. It looks like it doesn’t quite fit but it is done like that on purpose...not for people with OCD...

Thanks Thomas! I was one of the few that didn't really mind the split headlight of the previous version. Still, this looks much better than the previous version from all angles. The sedan especially, it looks very good and I would now prefer it to the combi.
The interior is also a success, it looks great. I like the use of fabric on the dash, I wish that would be used (much) more in car interiors. More fabric, less piano lacker! :-)
All in all this is a great new generation of the Octavia. If they keep the prices at around the same level as before, I am convinced they will sell even more of these than before.

So you get tail lamps from skoda skala and headlights from skoda kodiak but little bit redesigned... I expected something better from new octavia to be honest.
Skoda with the latest new models gives me the impression that it's trying to be the upmarket brand of the group. In this case Octavia looks more upmarket than Passat!
When will Skoda have a driving event for the Octavia. Really looking forward to see that

Awesome car, way better than its predecessor and great review as always Thomas! But i am curious. Why the previous model with the 2.0 Tdi 150 hp had 0-100 at 8.4 seconds and this new with the same engine has the acceleration time at 8.9 seconds? Could it be wrong?

The design, in my view, is the best in the VW class. Better than Golf 8 for sure. Better than Passat. Maybe Arteon looks better. IMO it is in the class design of Audi, Mercedes, BMW, so Skoda is doing very good things.
best design ever, i can say that it looks like the best C segment right now. At lest to me the combi looks like an a4 but with more elegant lines

@@e7234 nope, segments are going according to the size of the car. The Octavia length is 4.69 m, far away from segment C (until 4.50-4.60 m). In Germany, we classified Octavia as "Mittelklasse Fahrzeug" (mid-size for Americans). Superb is a "Obere Mittelklasse" (for America, Executive car), with almost 4.9 m.

I like this car much more than the new Golf.
The interior is so much nicer than the Passat, but the Passat is probably more expensive. Weird

Now the interior is good looking, It’s disappointing there is no manual AC controls, but at leas the GUI is better looking than that Golf 8 and ID, cheap Android theme. But putting snow brush is simply stupid. Brushes scratch clear coat of the paint when you push snow and ice.

The Skoda Octavia VRS looks cool but personally they should’ve given it more power then the Golf GTI because the Skoda is heavier then the Golf so in a race the Skoda will struggle to keep up with the Golf GTI

Thomas!! You need a torch on that camera!! Some of the takes are to dark and it becomes very difficult to see what's on the shades. Other than that great video, as always.

I really like this new design, the facelift of the previous version is quite ugly like you said, Thomas so this is big step up! I think there will be an order done for the scout version after I have had a look at it, whenever it is revealed.

New Golf 8 have no hydraulic struts.
I’m considering a Kamiq or Karoq but only if it’s plugin hybrid and would like a head up display. Will these options be put on there mid and small suv? Shame they haven’t done that.
First super disappointed in Škoda as there marketing team gave me an email to reach out for premier so I can come and review new generation (I own previous) but I got no reply. Then my friend who works for magazin told me they called them last minute. So unprofessional! 😡 Then the presentation was so bad, no information about car. Just overall bad! And after they introduced the car to stage. Stream ended?

my OCD is triggered every time they show the spot, where the line between the front boot and the front fender meets the front door. it always looks misaligned to me :-/

17:35 Thomas, I think this is mistake, 8 cm is the common space between knees and front seats, and it was increased only by 7mm, like it was written in press-release.
Sorry indeed, 8 cm is the _total_ overall legroom now the release said, but even doesnt make any sense if you think about it
