  • Only the most adaptable survives!
Charles Darwin already recognized the importance of an individual's adaptability in his theory of evolution, and this idea is more relevant than ever. In our research project "EVOLOPRO - Evolutionary Self-Adaptation of Complex Production Processes and Products", we are working on the development of a new generation of production systems.
Together with six other Fraunhofer Institutes, we are investigating the question of how nature manages to adapt flexibly to changing environmental conditions time and again. What adaptation mechanisms does nature use? And how can digital concepts such as the digital twin and the digital environment help to map biological principles in production in order to make it more flexible.
To explain this complex research topic a bit and to give an insight into our research work, we have made a short film series. In the first clip, Dr. Tim Grunwald, head of the Fine Machining and Optics department at the Fraunhofer IPT, gives an introduction to the world of biological transformation.
