    The use of the stretched nylons to make the smooth curved surface at the base of the cabin is an excellent idea. Raising the transom height also very smart.

    What a clever idea to use tights/stockings/nylons (or whatever the reader's country calls them)!! They are in essence a very, very fine net and being of non-natural fibres are an ingenious idea to act as a platform for glass-fibre. Absolutely brilliant!!

    Really great job the only thing i would have done differently is the type of fibreglass mat used, woven mat is inferior to any type of mat because it is woven, at every weave there is a pre stress because of the bending. I would use stitched biax mat because there is no stress on any fiber and every fiber is much longer, meaning it will disperse stress and energy over a bigger area.

    • @Maxxifull
      @Maxxifull  2 года назад +1

      Thanks. I just used cloth that was simpple to source locally. The boat orginally is made of standard mat and polyester, so really no need for anything exotic. But I used woven cloth on the transom and around the cabin and normal mat on less stressfull places and to add material thickness.

In any case it's definitely a very groovy little boat & you did an incredible job on the entire project, especially like the way you retrofitted the cabin, very cool!! Fantastic job overall, can't wait to follow the rest of your build.

      Hello, and thanks. Well, I didin't wan't to remove the entire top skin because it's very hard to source new rubrails here. And also there was no need to take it off, as there is no wood in the hull stringers, and the hull itself was in very good condition. There was no repaired spots, cracks or anything bad. Only the transom was bad.

    I have a question. Was necessary to grind off all of the old paint before you painted it white? Is it ok to just fill the patches with whatever the fiberglass material is, and then paint over the fiber glass and old paint?

    • @Maxxifull
      @Maxxifull  2 года назад

      The orange color was orginal polyester top coat, it's no need to grind it off, only sand a rough surface with 60-80 grit paper. I filled small dents and scratches with epoxy filler and then painted the hull with epoxy primer. If you patch a crack or bigger damage with new fiberglass then you need to grind off all top coat so you get the new polyester sticking properly on the old fiberglass. The rougher the surface the better it sticks on.

      Under the waterline, or in places that are always wet(bilge), you should use 2K epoxy paint. It's the only paint that is truly waterproof. On upper parts and the interrior I used 2K polyurethan paint that gives a very durable and long lasting surface.

      Ei tullu mitään varsinaista tarkkaa tekoaikaa kirjattua. Ostin ton aihion loppukeväästä -19 ja siinä meni kesä ja syksy puuhatellessa harvakseltaan. Oikeastaan kunnon vauhtiin pääsi vasta talvella -20 ja keväällä alkoikin tulla kiire saada vene valmiiksi kesälomaksi. Juuri ja juuri valmistui. Toki vielä siitä on tullu pieniä parannuksia ja lisäyksiä tehtyä, mutta ahkerassa käytössä on ollu kesän ja syksyn.
      Tuotteista sen verran, että perus lasikuitukankaat ja polyesterihartsit on varmasti tasaveroisia mistä tahansa ne ostaakin. Itse käytin Bilteman tuotteita kun kauppa on tuossa kivenheiton päässä ja sieltä löytyy suurin osa tarvittavasta. Mutta lasikuitu- ja polyesteripakkelit hain paikallisesta Motonetistä. Käytin myös Tikkurilan Temadur maalia. Uskoisin että kaikilla nykyaikaisilla tuotteilla pääsee hyvään lopputulokseen kunhan hoitaa pohjustukset hyvin, hyvä karhennus sekä huolellinen puhdistus asetonilla.
