- Finnish Concert Organist Pétur Sakari plays Final (Symphonie no.1) by Louis Vierne. Organ is a 58-stop instrument in Central Pori Church, Pori, Finland. It is made by Paschen Kiel Orgelbau and is based on French Romantic tradition. This was recorded in 2009 when Pétur was 17 years old. Music is availabe in CD/multichannel SACD, FUGA-9297, www.fuga.fi.
Video is filmed in HD and audio is taken from original high quality multichannel recording system used for the recording of SACD, not from video camera's own microphone. The better your audio system is, the better the sound, of course within limitations of RUclips audio. Quality is better in HD-versions. Audio, video and editing by Mika Koivusalo.
This video was put online on Monday, 13th of June 2011, at noon, 12.00 o'clock, local time in Finland.
This Young man was only 17 years old, He sounds like he has playing for decades and without the music in front of him. WELL DONE!!!!
Astonishing!!! Quite the most thrilling performance of this I've ever heard....... and I've heard most of them! Those final three chords are devastating! Bravo!
This was a "special moment... a radiant moment. I've listened to this post at least 8 times in the last two years. And I've listened to just about everything there is on RUclips. I'm an old organist. Made a living at it. Living in Hollywood. Blessings on OUR new year.
One of the finest performances of this peice I've heard, well done.
and played from memory!
Plus que parfait.
I think that all of the great French composers have that "something special." Their compositions stand out as unique, and truly hauntingly beautiful. I could listen to this type of music all day and never get tired of it.
VIERNE IS ONE OF MY FAVORITES. PETUR PLAYS BEAUTIFULLY
Greatest recording of this piece superb performance from memory
all with out music...Absolutely Magnificent ! and beautiful organ
Well he sure plays the hell out of it!. I especially like the "relaxed" tempo.........most of the French Organ composers complained that their music was played way too fast. I agree. The ending is exceptional. I've played this piece many, many times, and I am very impressed with his performance. I would love to hear him play it on one of those huge organs in a Paris cathedral like maybe the Saint Sulpice.
+David Miller You are right about the tempo. There are a few original (actual) performances by Dupre on RUclips, and I was very suprised at the tempo he played at. Actually, in some respects, I thought that the tempo WAS slow, but tempo has always been dictated by the composer, but left for interpretation. This performance (here) I thought was excellent.
a fine musician , a great piece, a magnificent instrument
One of the best performances and interpretations of the piece I've ever heard!!!! BRAVO
I like how clear the sounding is of the overal piece. Which kind of surprises me, given the speed vs the impression I have from the acoustic. Most performances of this particular movement of the Symphonie are one big wobble of sound together. Here you can hear all the voices clearly, without taking away from the greatness of the composition. Great job!
The best performance I have ever heard of this piece. Well done, Petur. At that standard, you deserve all the success that comes your way. Thank you for inspiring me to learn it - at over 60!!
It' s really the best version :)
Pétur, you make me cry, thank you!
Just amazing...
Grossartig!🤩 and this abslutley stunning playing and Interpretation with 17💎💎💎
Great Organ aswell…
Just listened to this again - what a treat - and what an ending. Wow.
This interpretation gave me goosebumps throughout. Absolutely amazing!
...great performance and a very beautiful instrument. Mr Cavaielle-Coll is still alive.
Lovely performance. Cracking Cavaillé-Coll clone!
Perfection, with no sheet music to help, Petur you are truly genius and an international star, stunning performance, thank you.
The way he plays it is so....expansive!
With no sheets in front of him. Verry good!
Wouter very met 1 r, niet 2
A very impressive organ AND organist.
and played from memory!
This has been for years, my favorite song of all time. That being said, this is the best version I have ever heard registration wise. FABULOUS job! Excellent pauses as mentioned previously.
Such a wonderful venue with wonderful acoustics and a wonderful musical artist!
Well, Mr. Sakari, another young, talented musician, who happens to be an organist. I love this piece and have played it many times. Truly enjoyed your interpretation and performance.
Ben je nederlands
That shot at 2:06 of the light from the window with the sun going behind the clouds is just magical. Suits the change in mood perfectly at that point. I’d have been proud to have found / included that at that point. And the stops coming out, a bit later. Magical!
Mr Sakari, you're one of those organists who combine a flawless technique with sheer musicality. And this is another great organ in Finland. When I once make it to Finland I must visit all these great instruments!
Magistrale interprétation! Bravo et merci!
Magnifique, Bravo !
Waiting for the cameraman to press the general cancel......
Just kidding. Great piece fantastically played.
And the bellows held on until the very end. Great stuff!
Interprétation parfaite de ce jeune et talentueux organiste .La console, le buffet et surtout la sonorité de l'orgue sont très proches d'un Cavaillé- Coll.
Beautiful!!! Perfect tempo and interpretation. Nuff said really. This interpretation is up there with Daniel Chorzempa's - but to achieve such maturity of performance so young is wonderful...
Excellent! Beautiful and inspiring Thank you for this performance!
Loved your tempo. Fit the room perfectly. Wonderful organ and an amazing use of the swell pedal. Altogether, thrilling. Thank you Petur. CVD
Exceptional ! Beautiful playing ! You seem to have the inspiration of the best players of th french organ repertoire ! And wonderful tribute to Cavaillé Coll organ...
Absolutely Magnificent ! , to play this master peice WITHOUT SHEET MUSIC , just adds to this young man's professionalism 😊😅😂😊❤❤❤
GREAT!!!
Very good performance! So much in the spirit of Vierne!
Fantastic instrument too. It reminds me so much of the Cavaillé-Coll organ in Saint-François in Lyon I am familiar with. The organ builder has even been refined enough to make the stops buttons and the coupling pedals in the Cavaillé style!
I love the sound of those mechanical, squeaky mixture stops. very well played!
Oh! Masterly.
Why would anyone give thumb down to this? He's 17 give him encouragement. Bravo loved it !!!!!
He's 25 and just terrific, don't you think, Michael? :)
No this recording is in 2009 when he was 17. He is now 25 in 2017.
A word about the thumbs-downers: a lack of charity never springs from a happy heart.
Send 'em love and forget 'em. :-)
Wonderful and expressive use of rubato. Thank you Petur.
WHAT . . . a young man!! And, this instrument's BASS!!!! I can hear each note of the lowest octave, clearly, cleanly, and distinctly--so, I guess a lot of thanks goes to the Recordist, too. To have been there for the Recording, one must have been levitated by the POWER of an instrument--this one--that may be a bit smaller than what's usually used for this piece, but you'd never know that, with young Master Sakari's FLAWLESS performance. He even throws in a few breaks, too, Jazz-style--and makes 'em work!!
A perfect, flawless spine-tingling performance. BRAVO!!
Was für tolle Version, die ohne Partitur läuft! Die Orgel klingt so wunderbar!
Petur must be a Vierne addict:- No sheet music! What a lovely performance. This lad (man now) is going places.
A brilliant perfomance on a fantastic organ.
Brilliant rendition. Acoustically well set.
Thank you for such a wonderful performance and such a perfect interpretation. I have tried to learn this peace but so pleased you have mastered it. Kindest regards to you Petur.
Bravo !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Parabéns Pétur Sakari pelo concerto.
Bravo! Terrific performance. And a truly great organ, too. I never understood why the Vidor Toccata was so much more popular than this piece. This one has it all, and a truly spectacular final pedal run.
Brilliant! Wow!
Thank you for sharing this lovely rendition. A beautiful moment of organ performance history.
Absolutely magnificent in every aspect: interpretation, pacing, registration, accuracy and what a creative person you had recording your performance. This is my favorite performance on youtube of this piece. BRAVO!
All the more impressive that he plays without a score.
Fantastic playing on what is certainly one of the greatest modern organs in the 19th Century French tradition. Finland clearly has it going on. Dang.
Beautiful
Joyous and wonderful to listen to. Majestic!
Wonderful playing and interpretation
The video visual is "mixed" so superbly... the brightening of the light on the floor as the piece gradually moves from the murkier middle section into the big finale is clever.
Wonderful orgen work. Master Piece from Louis Vierne!! Verry good played! I have the cd, and listen it many times!
Het was blijkbaar geen ongelukje
Bravo!
Impressive instrument and a great organist! In one row with Felix Hell and Timur Khaliullin. Pétur, I really enjoy your music!
I found the footwork mesmerizing! A wonderful rendering of one of my favorites.
A breathtaking performance, indeed, Petur! God has blessed you with extraordinary talent. And, the organ reminds me of the sound at St. Sulpice. I hope you'll be invited to play at the Rockefeller Chapel in Chicago, IL sometime in the near future.
Really great playing! I love the sound that you get, so powerful! This man is super special ... incredible energy! The organ and its pipes are so beautiful !!
Wonderful instrument!!
Breathtaking.
Excelentisima interpretacion. BRAVO
Just the piece I ever wanted to hear on this great organ in Pori... Well done!
bravissimo stupenda esecuzione organo fantastico
BEAUTIFUL... inspired playing...
Magistraaaaaalll!!!
Dude, you nailed it! BRAVO!
That was great! All organs should look this good, also.
Fantastic !!!
Impressed!!!!
mooi stukje muziek en alles uit hoofd geweldig hoor
Ja, ik ga hem ook leren😃
Excellent!
Wonderful!
The organ manuels look like a piano's keys. How comfortable!
Super!!!!
Marvelous !!
...wow, a "French: organ in Finland. Wonderful. Lovely performance
Very good .
Eseguire anche all'organo le composizioni a memoria per questo strumento sarebbe la soluzione migliore perchè significa CHE LE NOTE SCRITTE sono state memorizzate perfettamente.
Thats impressive!
The new The Manton Memorial Organ at the Church of the Ascension, NYC, by Pascal Quoirin of St. Didier, France, is the first French-built pipe organ ever installed in New York City. With its 6,183 pipes, 95 stops, 111 ranks, 2 consoles, and 7 keyboards, it is the largest French organ built anywhere in almost 50 years. The electronic console is very much like the Cavaillé-Coll console at St-Sulpice. (There is also a tracker console that plays that part of the organ in the left chamber.)
The organ at Rice university in Houston, is a tracker organ. Imagine how this piece would sound, on that organ. It would something, that you would never forget.
Straight fire
Great recording too
to think he was just 17 years young when he recorded this!
Could this be the "GertVan Hoef" of Finland? If so acknowledge your fan behind the camera lens as Get does. We are THERE behind the glass; do as he often does when finishing a piece. We love that.
With the only difference that Pétur is a REAL musician and virtuoso.
Sehän meni hienosti !
super Klasse
bravissimo
Where have you been hiding? Just found you on RUclips. You are a very talented young man. Enjoyed very much Thank you.
On a French organ in Finland, Petur Sakari is playing some 'fin de siecle' Vierne. Since he was only 17 when this was recorded, I assume he was not able to celebrate with a glass of saki after the recording.
Dear Petur... this is your instrument. You hear it..... the whole thing. You did this 20 years ago. What's up... Finish titan? Who are you teachers? Always interested in those things. Thanks for sharing this..... !!
Medaase paa.
Mbo na y3
Where can I find the specification/disposition/stoplist on this beast? AWESOME!!
oui c'est vraiment très beau, grandiose comme il convient pour une telle oeuvre.
bravo

Benqmicrosoft Thank you very much! What is the compass of the manual and pedal keyboards--that is, how many notes on each (i.e., 61 note manuals and 30 or 32 note pedals, or what?) Also, what do the terms, "Effet d'orage" and "Introduction Grand Orgue" mean in English? Thanks again for your help!
Tom Nichol
Would this help? www.poriorgan.fi/dispositio
Efft d´orage means "thunder", "Introduction Grand orggue means a kind of switch to cancel or to introduce the chosen stops on the great. In German it´s often called "Ventil".
..the ensemble is wonderful, Even the keyboards are CC inspired.
Why can't someone in the States build something like this?
