Awesome tutorial sir! I've been experimenting a lot recently with highlights and different methods and this is by far the one I've found to look the best over and over. So cinematic, punchy and bold love it! Great work!
Such a great and useful tutorial, Valentin! I have always admired your highlights and glows...i think it is very hard to master them, i seem to never get them right. But your highlights and glows are just perfect and they bring so much realism to your work. Thanks a lot for the efforts you put in these tutorials!
If you think color dodge is too powerful, try lowering the fill of the layer instead of opacity. Color dodge is one of the 8 special blend modes where fill and opacity have different effects. Some of the others are linear dodge, linear burn, color burn, linear light, difference and hard mix.
If you lower the fill of the layer, you affect everything you painted on that layer. If that works for you, great :) Photoshop is not about one method, is about master a lot of them.
@@Mr23Design i agree. It's why i wanted to add an extra tip. I sometimes add a bright solid color layer, set it to color dodge and then lower the fill to around 15-20%. It gives a different kind of glow, because of the special blend mode effect
@P. Peter R from how i understand the layers, it's there to act as a base, to prevent the other layers in the group from "spilling" down unto the ones below The gradient map layer will affect all the layers below it, because it isn't a clipping mask. The black layer then blocks it from reaching those below and by setting the whole group to screen you get rid of the black from the group If for example you wanted a color burn technique instead of color dodge, you would need to use a white base layer instead and set the group to multiply. And the layers should be painted with dark tones
Its nothing different than this video, just master this method and it will help you a lot. I don't have oniric, but this is the best method to create glows and highlights. It took me years to master it, so you have to invest more time in it.
I always like watching new techniques or tricks to make highlights but still my edits looks kinda unrealistic because of shadows, it's hard and boring for many people like me. So can you plz make a video on shadows😢💜💜💜

True, that's something else :)

@P. Peter R yea adding one or more layers on top can make it easier to manage it you need to go back and adjust some things

Very beautiful, brother. Can I have the image file for practice?
I don't have it, search for Frank Masi - Warner Bross - it's his image.

What's the point of filling the layers with black before applying the technique?
Try it, with or without black, see how it goes best for you :)
