What would you say is the most durable knee sleeve regardless of super stiff or even among the non-stiff options? I'm recovering from a knee injury and I plan on using weightlifting sleeves for judo which doesnt require constant deep squats and such but I still need good support that won't tear after a month for 120 bucks plus.
Based off your comments I'd prob look at the 5mm rehband or sbd sleeves. 7mm powerlifting sleeves would prob be too much for other sorts of training and stiff sleeves would jsut be pointless.
I came here looking to confirm my bias to buy another pair of SBD, but I might end up ordering Pioneer after watching this video 😂 I used my large SDB since 2013 or 2015 something like that but they are bunching behind the knee now and the material is a bit broken in some spots. I also read that SDB quality went down over the years so I’m a bit reluctant to go for this brand. Idk if there is any truth to that. Also I’m hesitating between looking for more compression or thickness, I don’t really want to lose on the rebound. I wish there was a definitive answer as to what knee sleeves are simply the best Thank you for this video !
So I put these sleeves here in a different league than SBD due to how much stiffer they are. You may find just getting a new pair of SBDs (or even their slighly heavier duty PL sleeves) would be fine for you.
Hi Brandon. Quite awhile ago you recommended Stoic knee sleeves and I believe they were your "go to" sleeves. This time they were not mentioned. I purchased them and was satisfied with them but I am now in the market for new sleeves. Was wondering why Stoic was not reviewed before I purchase new sleeves.
So this video was focused only on stiff sleeves. They’re much more brutal than what I’d deem “regular” sleeves. Stoic will be releasing their own likely later this year. In terms of every day sleeves, Stoics are still my go to. In fact I just bought another 2 pair!
Pioneer is advertising “non competition knee sleeves, greater than 7mm” would then mean that they are 9mm? I called and they said some were greater and some were lesser than 7mm so I don’t even know if it’s a safe buy
I think a batch came in that exceeded 7mm, so think like 7.5mm. They're fine to use as long as you're not aiming to use them in competition. If you are, just spend the $10 more for the competition version that are 7mm.
Do knee sleeves help with knee pain while squatting, I'm not worried about hitting heavy weight, I was having knee pain mt last workout, and i'm not even able to hit my own body weight yet... i'm trying to body build but i'm feeling pain in my knee at weights I can rep 8-12 times per set, and starting to worry i could end up hurting myself or ending up with pencil leggs.
Have you heard if stoic is coming out with a stiffer sleeve? Theres a "stiff knee sleeve" for stoic/liftnet on the IPF approved list for 2023-2026 but theres no listing for them on the website.
My calves are 17” and my knees are 14.5” I wear size L SBDs, but they (along with many sleeves) bunch up behind the knee. What brand/model do you think would suit me best?
Maaaan... do I need another pair of knee sleeves? I'd probably have to try out the Pioneer sleeves since I love the company, and it's pretty much 1/2 the price of the SBDs after shipping, which would've been my other choice.
A lot of the sleeves are very similar so same principles apply. If you find a cone shaped sleeves fit your leg styles the Cerberus are a good choice. I just think the Pioneer are better as they’re very similar, yet better priced.
Damn I have the newest sbd “powerlifting” sleeves, I’ve never owned any “stiff” sleeves, so I thought the SBD were stiff, but I only can compare against rehbands and CrossFit sleeves etc. Are true stiff sleeves like those pioneers really that noticeable of a difference vs say the SBD? Great price on those pioneers. Hard to not want to try them.
Are the A7s in the review the rigor mortis ones? Do they fit better around the knee in compared to your stoics? my issue has always been the sleeves bunching behind the knee. thanks!
I've been using them for meets and heavy work but have also been working in the a7s to give my legs a bit of a break as they're not as hard on the back of my knees.
@@BasementBrandon Appreciate this review! Used your code a few times. Really wanted the Pioneer's to work but tried a 2xl, 3xl and both gave me a hematoma and rash on back of knee and the 4xl were too large. So the search continues
@@Micapeak208-r5c Thanks for using my codes! I've found the rear stitched sleeves can cause this a bit more than some of the other designs. If you still have them, try wearing so the seams are on the side. Can also look at the a7 as they have 2 rear seams but don't run down the middle.
I got to this video after seeing your latest Instagram reel about the new Inzer cone sleeves, and while you’re not going to be picking those up, I just wanted your opinion on whether you would believe it to be a better choice than the Pioneers, which I was originally planning on getting.
I don't think they'll be better, but they may be as good as they look very similar. Right now you can save a few bucks if you want Inzers, but I still prefer the minimal branding of the Pioneers and the lower true MSRP. I know Inzer just released a bunch of colors for their singlets and original Ergo Pros, so would assume we'll see color options in these cones as well.
awesome video! I'm curious to see what your opinion is going to be on the white toe lifting company knee sleeves, they appear to be similar to Iners or village hidden iron but I'm a bit skeptical.
I am currently looking to buy my first pair of sleeves that would last me for a while, on some of your old videos you recommend stoics and those are available on amazon for a decent price, would you consider those over these options? or are they different, thanks in advance!
If it's going to be your first pair I would not recommend going with a stiff pair like the ones I show in this video. A "normal" pair from brands like Stoic, SBD, etc are likely your best bet!
Great video. I appreciated how you stressed that the SBD is a compression sleeve 1st. I assume its the highest tier for compression but would you mind doing a video on compression sleeves? Also I like to wear my SBD around the house for a few hours because the compression gives my knee tendons a passive isometric squeeze. Rehband are too light weight and short to give that same squeeze.
I'd say you're likely close to how mine fit. Being that the XL fit but are more of a comp fit (as tight as possible). The XXL will be easier to get on and off, but may slide some during extended use.
I’m in the same position and went with the 2xls. They are still pretty freaking hard to get on and off, but would I expect less bunching behind knee with 1XL? Thanks for the informative video!
i don’t understand A7. The new ones i bought are exactly 0.350 grams and the old ones are 0.450 grams. What you got is the new version 0.350 grams and I will tell you it’s not as good as the older versions. The older version provides insane rebound to the point where I PR from 120-140 in a single week
These were the first rigor mortis sleeves released. What I will tell you is that sleeves can vary batch to batch. Not all neoprene is created equal. We've seen this with SBD, Inzer, and pretty much every brand out there.
@@BasementBrandon thanks for the comment. Was just unsure if the quality changed just bc the mentioned weight were exact on the dot. To me it just seemed like they tried to saved on cost but maybe it’s just a different batch of neoprene.
@@hehehehahaha3150 I won't say it can't, but just giving my experience. I've had multiple pairs of the same brands and have found weight varies. I've even had sleeves from the same set where one sleeve is significantly heavier than it's pair.
hi, if my measurment left leg is 14,5" and right leg is 15" (calf 15,5" ), and thinking about SBD knee, what size i should go L or XL? i'm recently start clean slowly bulk Thanks
You know anything about the Norse Fitness 7mm knee sleeves? They look cool but can't find any independent reviews other than the high praise reviews on their own website. You seem like a good guy to ask 😄
@@BasementBrandon The info on their website makes it seem like they are something new with the R&D they have done, so it would be disappointing if they are indeed import sleeves with branding. Think I'll stick with the more established brands so I don't waste money. Thanks!
I'm skeptical. The claim is made in USA, however from my research and understanding of the neoprene market, there isn't a way he could be offering the sleeves at that price point. My guess is the material itself is imported and/or constructed overseas but some of the procurement on his end (or final logos) are supplied by a US vendor.
This video is just on the newer stiff sleeves. The Stoics are what I would consider soft sleeves. Still a great option, just not the same type of sleeve IMO.
I’ve had couple of stiff pairs of knee sleeves and the weight vary from pair to pair. You can get a really heavy one or you can get a lighter one. Decided to switch from Inzers to Ghosts and they are much better. You need a pair of ghosts! Great video as always!
Very nice review! Interesting how there can be inconsistency for some brand. I wear Inzer size S and new sbd size S. I recently got a pair of A7 rigor mortis size L and they are tighter than both inzer s and sbd s. They aldo weigh 1.1 pound each. I think this new dense neoprene needs a tighter quality control to have steady state feeling, companies would differentiate themselves even by providing the same product with low to no variability.
Hi, I'm trying to decide between the A7 and new SBDs. Which do you prefer? I want good support but not so tight/rigid they become too uncomfortable to wear.
Do you think raw powerlifting will have an issue as knee sleeves get better? Seems like the best sleeves are starting to approach knee wraps in terms of rebound.
It's an interesting question. I think most people who lift raw and don't like this trend will say it's getting too close to wraps, but those who have used wraps will say they'll never be on the same level.
@@BasementBrandonI've competed in both, and you're right, the best wraps are much better than the sleeves. But the sleeves today are definitely not the same as when I first started wearing them ten years ago.
@@josephbloxham3992 100% agree, it's funny to go back and wear my blue rehbands and recall when I though they were adding so much weigh to my squat and then compare them to some of the sleeves shown here.
Have you ever tried stiff sleeve co? What have you heard/what are your opinions. Also if someone wanted the absolute stiffest sleeve possible and didn’t care about comfort/durability what would you recommend?
@@tpo3055 I am of the opinion that a lot of the brands use the same material. So what it comes down to is finding the shape that allows you the tightest fit all around that you can still get on or off.
I just ordered the new SBD sleeves, an upgrade from my slight shots extreme X. I appreciate all your videos, mainly because I'm new to powerlifting, and my first meet is in 2 weeks! So thank you for all the valuable videos 💪🏽
@@BasementBrandon My first time using the new SBD sleeves was today, and they were so much better than the slingshot. I felt more comfortable in the hole and hit a new PR. They, of course, took some getting used to, but overall, I love the sleeves mainly because they feel amazing, and the level of added compression felt so much better.
@@BasementBrandonif I think I need a more normal tapered sleeve, which sleeve, new SBD, stoic or any other brand do you recommend if I’m an advanced lifter, but have been focusing more on good heavy reps of for example 4-8 than PRs. Plus I wear my knee sleeves for the majority of my 2 leg sessions a week.
I fell in love with Inzers when they first came out. Recently been shopping for some competition only sleeves and just use my Inzers to train in. I ordered the pioneer and wanted them to work so bad but learned my leg shape can’t use a traditional taper sleeve. 😢
Solid review as always! I've been curious about the Pioneer's since you first mentioned them. At their price, I will give them a shot (likely after next meet), but I'm uncertain of the sizing. Based on your double purchase, it would seem they run small? Both of my current sleeves are soft and I prefer the tighter fit of the SBDs in L, compared to the XL of my Stoic's. I'd assume a XL to XXL would work?
So when we sized mine it was before he went off the calf measurement. That being said I'd still be in an XL. I'd equate these to a comp fit and will be my go to for heavy work. I bought a size up so that I can wear them in my hypertrophy blocks and give my legs a bit of a rest! I'd measure your calf and see where you fall. If you're kind of on the border of sizes, prob better to go up unless you want a comp fit.
@@mattsailor4966 When I say soft I mean more like the normal sleeves we've seen the past few years. These stiff sleeves are a completely different animal!
Unfortunate how few of these are IPF approved. Is a7 the winner out of the IPF approved sleeves? Quality issues and the shape of the Inzer and titan put me off.
Yeah one of the annoying things about IPF approval. these all are to spec but they haven't all paid the fee. A lot of these stiff sleeves can have issues with not sized right. I have heard the inzers are back to being better these days however. I have not tried their new cone version but those or A7 would likely be my choice if I had to get one that met IPF approval.
@@BasementBrandon living in the uk where most people compete in the IPF affiliate (unless untested!) those two seem to be the main choices. In fact I don’t think I’ve seen anyone wearing any of the other options besides one pair of titans! Cheers for the response
Do you find the pioneers taper down a lot more than the inzers? I’ve had inzers for awhile, work well but not in love with them. Slide down a lot too. I have larger quads and my knee and calf are about the same size. A7’s I couldn’t quite get high enough. So thinking of giving the Pioneers a go!
I've found this to be the case for myself. The inzers for me were too big on the bottom, so they had a gap when my knee was bent, which over reps caused them to slide down some. I don't have issues with the pioneers like this b/c it's more of a cone shape.
@@BasementBrandon Ok got them in. Very similar sizing spread to you; S in Inzers, M in SBD, M in A7’s and L in Pioneers. And holy hell it feels like I’m wearing my Inzers on top of my A7’s. These truly are top notch

I came here looking to confirm my bias to buy another pair of SBD, but I might end up ordering Pioneer after watching this video 😂
I used my large SDB since 2013 or 2015 something like that but they are bunching behind the knee now and the material is a bit broken in some spots.
I also read that SDB quality went down over the years so I’m a bit reluctant to go for this brand. Idk if there is any truth to that.
Also I’m hesitating between looking for more compression or thickness, I don’t really want to lose on the rebound.
I wish there was a definitive answer as to what knee sleeves are simply the best
Thank you for this video !
I bought the Inzer´s two months ago and it has already started to tear. Size is ok and haven´t squatted more than 400 pounds. Not a good buy
Sorry to hear
Do knee sleeves help with knee pain while squatting, I'm not worried about hitting heavy weight, I was having knee pain mt last workout, and i'm not even able to hit my own body weight yet... i'm trying to body build but i'm feeling pain in my knee at weights I can rep 8-12 times per set, and starting to worry i could end up hurting myself or ending up with pencil leggs.
They can help add warmth/support, but they shouldn't be used to mask pain. That's usually a bigger issue.
Have you heard if stoic is coming out with a stiffer sleeve? Theres a "stiff knee sleeve" for stoic/liftnet on the IPF approved list for 2023-2026 but theres no listing for them on the website.
Yep, they have had a few testers out there for their top athletes. They said they'd send me some but haven't seen a time frame.
What is your calf size? My calf is a 16 1/4 so the chart says 2XL for 16 inches. What do you think? Thanks
Just around 15".
My calves are 17” and my knees are 14.5”
I wear size L SBDs, but they (along with many sleeves) bunch up behind the knee. What brand/model do you think would suit me best?
I think you'll find a lot of these stiff sleeves a bit difficult. You might have the best luck with an ergo shape vs a cone shape like the SBDs.
@@BasementBrandon thank you!
Thanks for your effort and such a great video!
Sure thing!
Maaaan... do I need another pair of knee sleeves? I'd probably have to try out the Pioneer sleeves since I love the company, and it's pretty much 1/2 the price of the SBDs after shipping, which would've been my other choice.
TBH I just had to make this video so I could justify buying all these
Could you make a more detailed review on the cerberus sleeves? Currently can't find any other reviews on them except this video
The first time you feel/wear a pair of one of these sleeves will blow your mind.
Great video. Really dives deep into knee sleeves.
Thanks man!
Are the A7s in the review the rigor mortis ones? Do they fit better around the knee in compared to your stoics? my issue has always been the sleeves bunching behind the knee. thanks!
They are the rigor mortis. I think sleeve bunching is partly from sizing, but also based off material. I didn't notice any signficant difference.
Was sad to hear about the TKS, my coach swears by his and I've enjoyed my yellowjackets for sure.
I know many who like them as well! Just my own experiences!
Iron Rebel user here if anyone has any questions
Nice!
What is your calf measurement for the Pioneer?
Right around 15"
Do you still like the pioneer ones the best?
I think we're at a point now where one company is producing many of these and just doing label swaps.
@@BasementBrandon makes sense, might go with that then becausw it is significantly cheaper relatively speaking
I bought inzer s new belt and it was shipped in 5 days, got it with thw discount 89.99, the same as pioneer stock without the pal v2
Nice!
Thanks! will take a look at the stoics then! @@BasementBrandon
I'll put it on my to do list.
I want to buy the pioneer sleeves. My calf measures 15 1/8, do you recommend getting the XL or 2XL?
I'd say you're likely close to how mine fit. Being that the XL fit but are more of a comp fit (as tight as possible). The XXL will be easier to get on and off, but may slide some during extended use.
I’m in the same position and went with the 2xls. They are still pretty freaking hard to get on and off, but would I expect less bunching behind knee with 1XL? Thanks for the informative video!
Do you have a recommendation or preference for non-stiff sleeves?
Personally I like Stoic or SBD
Do you feel that the sbd M size and the Pioneer XL size are similar?
I do not.
i don’t understand A7.
I've even had sleeves from the same set where one sleeve is significantly heavier than it's pair.
hi, if my measurment left leg is 14,5" and right leg is 15" (calf 15,5" ), and thinking about SBD knee, what size i should go L or XL? i'm recently start clean slowly bulk
Thanks
They SBD have a bit of give so I'd go with the smaller size.
@@BasementBrandon Okey, so gonna go for L, thanks for the help
As far as I know, at least 5 brands use the same factory.
Yep!
You know anything about the Norse Fitness 7mm knee sleeves? They look cool but can't find any independent reviews other than the high praise reviews on their own website. You seem like a good guy to ask 😄
From what I can see they look like regular import "soft" sleeves with just Norse branding.
@@BasementBrandon The info on their website makes it seem like they are something new with the R&D they have done, so it would be disappointing if they are indeed import sleeves with branding. Think I'll stick with the more established brands so I don't waste money. Thanks!
Would be interested to hear your thoughts on the "Thick Daddy Chokers".
I'm skeptical. The claim is made in USA, however from my research and understanding of the neoprene market, there isn't a way he could be offering the sleeves at that price point. My guess is the material itself is imported and/or constructed overseas but some of the procurement on his end (or final logos) are supplied by a US vendor.
you are missing the STOIC ones you used to like.
I don't think I'd like them. The shape doesn't fit me well, too much knee gap and then they slide down :(
@@BasementBrandonAre Ghost a good Option for huge Calves? I know have the Inzer in M but its to small for my Calves, i couldnt get them off alone.
Im a big fan of pioneer and have been waiting for their 4x to get back in stock for my meet in november
🤞
Have you tried the Stoic sleeves? If so, how do they compare?
I have, I've used them for years. They're what I would consider last gen sleeves, but of that type, they're still may favorite.
Some people collect benches, some collect barbells, what am I going to say Brandon collects?
all of the above.
Sounds like he's collecting stiffies
What site can u buy the pioneers?
Pioneer's own
Make one of knee wraps. Stoic brand?
I haven’t used knee wraps so might not be the best person.
Yep! Makes it hard to compare across brands for sure!
Hi, I'm trying to decide between the A7 and new SBDs. Which do you prefer? I want good support but not so tight/rigid they become too uncomfortable to wear.
@@moel6304need an answer here too
At what weight do you suggest getting knee sleeves?
TBH if you're interested in long term strength, I think you should get them now. But prob wouldn't jump right into the stiff sleeves like these.
I haven't but it seems they're getting their sleeves from a lot of the same manufacturer's. Most companies are just relabeling.
@@BasementBrandonThanks for the reply! What would you say is the absolute stiffest knee sleeve best for just putting pounds on your squat?
@@tpo3055 I am of the opinion that a lot of the brands use the same material. So what it comes down to is finding the shape that allows you the tightest fit all around that you can still get on or off.
@@BasementBrandonwould you say weight adds a big factor in it?
@@tpo3055 I think weight tends to give a good idea of density and stiffness.
No comparison with the rehbands?
The rehbands feel like paper compared to these. I was just hoping to provide some insight to those looking at stiff sleeves.
Which is the stiffest one
They're all basically the same. Depends on your leg shape.
Would you say the pioneers are stiffer than inzers?
They're the same material from what I can tell. Just in this case different shape. So depends on your leg measurements.

I just ordered the new SBD sleeves, an upgrade from my slight shots extreme X. I appreciate all your videos, mainly because I'm new to powerlifting, and my first meet is in 2 weeks! So thank you for all the valuable videos 💪🏽
My big issue with Slingshot stuff is the QC seems to be fairly inconsistent.

Stoic sleeves?
Stoic are my preferred when it comes to the "regular" sleeves. However these stiff ones are on a much different level of support.
Stoic are my preferred brand their for their quality and their cost. SBDs are also good, but more expensive and not as dense.
I fell in love with Inzers when they first came out. Recently been shopping for some competition only sleeves and just use my Inzers to train in. I ordered the pioneer and wanted them to work so bad but learned my leg shape can’t use a traditional taper sleeve. 😢
First world problems 🤪
@@BasementBrandon I know right.
@@BasementBrandon thanks brother
Stoic doesn't even garner a mention anymore?
They haven't released their stiff sleeves yet to the public. They are still my preferred "soft" sleeve.
I like my stoic brand. I guess since i don't compete stiffness doesn't matter to me
I didn't realize they were considered "soft". I really like mine.@@BasementBrandon
@@mattsailor4966 When I say soft I mean more like the normal sleeves we've seen the past few years. These stiff sleeves are a completely different animal!
@@BasementBrandon I had no idea, I thought Stoic were pretty stiff. Now I'm intrigued...
