One nice thing about this film was that the Civil War had taken place not long before the film was shot. Thus we get a more relistic view of what it was actually like during the war. Example: The number of horses tied up in two straight lines at the camp. You don't see details like that in more modern films because of the $$$ to re-create the "image". Steam locomotives are my hobby and I am seeing more details on how the engines were operated by the crews then I have seen in written history. I seriously believe that I could "drive" a locomotive from that era! I am now thinking of obtaining a copy of the film to show at one of my train hobby group's meetings. I finf it hard to believe the film critics were thumbs dowm on this movie.
Not to mention they really destroyed a real steam engine. Something nobody would want to do today considering how few and antique they are. Back then, they had so many old left over steam engines that they knew what to do with

There are different "original" soundtracks for this movie. But this is not one of them, I put it together from recordings of a local jazz band that accompanied many live screenings of the movie and even released an album with tracks written for the movie. I am sure many prefer the more classic soundtracks, but I wanted to preserve something close to the one I grew up with, that I can not see live again, as unfortunately one of the musicians in the band already died in 2015.
