I am reading the book now and I certainly got the impression that Alex eventually liked Nixon (the man).

The ridiculous amount of time these public servants, mostly the President, spent on Watergate. It's sad and stupid.

From what Butterfield said, Woodward didn't accurately write what Butterfield's feelings were about Nixon. Woodward sure tried hard to say something to make some kind of connection between what was Butterfield's answer to the audience member's question and what he claimed Butterfield said in the book. It makes me wonder about people working for Trump claiming they didn't say what Woodward says they did. How much is accurate?

Whatever the CIA would allow is in there is accurate enough to make them look half as bad as they are. The smear job is just a redirect intended to polish the turds.

What Bob said about "finding the traces" behind the metaphors people use in their speaking is a useful tool. Very handy when cutting through the BS and getting to the heart of a persons values.

I have been watching a lot of these Watergate retrospectives and they, unfortunately, reinforce the adage that “those who ignore history are bound to repeat it.” This is especially obvious with Woodward’s statement that the Presidency is not a personal position, it is a trust that is bestowed upon the person elected to the office. Both of those conditions are ignored by those who continue to see Trump as worthy of the honor.

Even when he was young, Woodward spoke with the hesitantcy of a stoke victim.

Woodward shouldn't tell Butterfield what he thought about Nixon.

One must wonder where Woodward is concerned= why TF does anyone agree to talk to him?

Bob Woodward apparently wants to sell another book about Watergate. Why not, he and Bernstein's very limited and inconsequential roles in Watergate along with massive self promotion have made them rich. Shut up Bob, let Alex answer the questions !

At least Woodward writes about other subjects. John Dean has made an entire career out of Watergate. Now he is the go to guest when the discussing presidential corruption. ( so he has been busy since 2016. Trump has been lucrative for Dean and Woodward)

This interview would have been much better if Woodward had shut up and let Butterfield answer the questions. That, however, would be too much to expect from that supreme egoist. As well it is apparent that Woodward varied his book account from what Butterfield told him.

Agnew was not a good guy. He was a crook.
