Every dog is trainable. You need to never give up. You may be not doing it correct. Master the sit first then master the down. Then you have better chance to doing what you need to do. I would say down to a sit isn't compulsory and work on other things too.

Getting my own this coming Saturday. He will be 12 weeks old. Lots of work and commitment for a first time dog owner
