Actually we Indians find the terms "animal" a bit offensive when used for certain domestic or 'everyday-everywhere seen' animals like dogs, cats, monkeys, cows, buffaloes, elephants, sparrows etc. For us they are just like people around us-quite often nicer than some of our human beings.
For Europeans, Britons and Americans, India is a very good country for a number of reasons: 1. The living cost is much lower than compared to their native countries 2. The purchasing power for people living in India is much higher than in their native countries. That means, more sales and a comfortable life. 3. The taxes in some countries are exorbitant. Health services are too costly. But India, almost everyone has access to the best health care in the world. 4. You find skill & talent in India far too easily and at affordable costs. You find workers and domestic helps easily In India. Imagine finding a maid in Germany. 5. Internet is fast and is affordable and almost every single citizen is connected to the internet, lest for a few villages. So remote jobs, internet freelancing and online-earning has seen significant growth and sadly, so has the scamming. India is bad if: 1. If you cannot tolerate heat and the summers 2. If you cannot tolerate the dust and shit that may lie anywhere 3. If you cannot tolerate the over-populated cities or the incessant honking of traffic packed city streets and you do not understand the chaos on the streets. 4. If you cannot bargain because, everyone tries to scam you and if you cannot bargain India is not for you. In India, putting a higher price tag and asking for more money is a rule. In some places, you get goods for even less than half the quoted price. Even native Indians fail to bargain, so if you are an expat here, it will take time to adjust. 5. If you cannot say 'No' In India India is not for you. In India, 'No' is a safety word. Say yes, and you are done with. Say No then Ignore then Avoid and then Walk away and you are safe.

I lived in Cannaught Place, Delhi for long to know not to leave windows and doors open while stepping out. There were 5 - 6 monkeys (adults and kids) who slept in the balcony every night and leave in morning. When I realised that, I decided to be more careful to not to disturb them with harsh lights. Unless it is that inconvenient or threatening, most Hindus won't hesitate to accommodate other animals. As they snub, we are a "beastly religion'.
This is a very interesting story. I live in US for last more than 50y. However, I have observed that in India birds, animals and people live in harmony even in big cities. This is unlike in western world where birds/animals mostly live in zoo in cities. Indian culture is very tolerant. Gau grass(cow's share), Swan vas(dog's share), Kag vas(crow/bird's share) is still observed by people in their life!
