This is on Shades of Deep Purple, which was their first album and is from 1968. Their original lead singer was Rod Evans and original bass player was Nikki Simper. They were replaced by Ian Gillan on lead vocals and Roger Glover on bass guitar in 1970. The Deep Purple In Rock was the first album from that lineup and they modeled Mount Rushmore with their faces for the album cover. It was pretty cool.
"That thing!" was Deep Purple's other secret weapon; Jon Lord's Hammond organ pumped through a Marshall stack. He is responsible for bringing the church organ to the forefront or rock music.
WHEN (not if) you listen to Deep Purple's : Child in Time may I recommend that you play the Live 1970 video. It's not that there are any bad versions out there...but it DOES give you the best opportunity to watch and actually see a five piece band of sheer virtuosos (each one) as they blow the minds of a live TV studio audience that have been instructed to remain quiet. Surreal. ❤💞 your reactions. This one was no exception. You always seem to know the thing everyone should be paying attention to. 👍
May I recommend you listen to the ALBUM VERSION ! It's BY ALL MEANS(singing, instruments and atmosphere) most definitely the ultimate & very BEST VERSION .
I love your reaction to these old tunes. Its funny, ya know ? I see your reaction to these songs Ive been hearing since grade school and forgot how I reacted to them the first time I heard them. Your reaction gives me a whole new sense of restored appreciation for this music. " Hah ! And people accuse me of living in the past. I just love everything about your reaction and all your comments.
Ian Paice is the drummer, who is so underrated in my opinion, Ritchie Blackmore played lead guitar and is a legend and Jon Lord played the Hammond B3 organ, which he was such a legend and he passed away a couple years ago. I would know Jon Lord's playing anywhere. I have the first album. They did a cover of Help by the Beatles which they really mellowed it out, but I think it's awesome. Thank you for reacting as always.
Video clips like this breathes fresh new life to music to Deep Purple 💜🎶🎵🎸. Richie Blackmore , Ian Gillian, Jon Lord, Roger Glover and Ian Paice are GODS!
I just remember my freshman year, when the Deep Purple album: ( Made in Japan.) Came out. I discovered a whole new sound I just couldn't get enough of. " Highway Star." became one of my favorite tunes off that album. But I think, the best stage performance they put on, was a song called " Lazy."
You're such a good time to watch when I'm stoned! But what I really like is that a young chick like you has an appreciation for good, cool, older, & 'harder' rock music. That alone impresses me, young friend - & you're also a good time!! 😁 (I wish my daughter was more like *you* in her 'musical tastes' 🙄 lol! - & had your *enthusiasm* about it! lol 😄) Love it! "Zang 👍!" 😉😊
This is a cover, the original done by an American singer named Billy Joe Royal. The song was wrote by another American, Joe South, a star in his own right. Aretha Franklin heard Joe playing one day and asked who it was playing the guitar and one of her people said, "a white guy named Joe South. The Queen of Soul answered saying, "I don't care what color he is I want him to play on my next album!"
Awesome Scribe🌷《☆》So many DeepPurple songs to do😎👍🏾Smoke on the water Lazy & Highway Star are just 3 of my favorites :*: Greetings from⛾Florida🤳my friend🤓🎱🔊☮✌👍🏾
Albeit the most famous version, this is actually a cover. The song was written by a fellow named Joe South (who had a hit with "Games People Play") and originally recorded by country/soul singer Billy Joe Royal.
Scribe This was original lineup of Deep Purple known as Mark I lineup with Ritchie Blackmore, Ian Paice were common members until Blackmore left the band in 1994. Today only Ian Paice is left from original lineup.
Ritchie Blackmore has more prominent guitar solos in Child in Time, Highway Star, Smoke on the water, Lazy, Mistreated, and many other later songs that showed great collaboration between Blackmore and Lord on the keys.
This is the first Deep Purple line up. You want to listen to what they were doing in the early 70's with Ian Gillan on vocals. The best song to start with is Child in time from the In Rock album. there is also live version from 1970
I love the way you just give yourself over to this old man music - these are old British white musicians, mostly dead now. But they were totally living the music of mostly dead black blues players from America who were in turn singing songs who came from before them. Keep going - you make your own music and we’ll keep listening to you, beautiful!
Heck yes, this is one oft favorite songs. Here is a crazy idea, being a singer yourself what of you did an album of your favorite songs you have reacted to?
Deep Purple - “Made In Japan” album has the undeniable best versions of the songs that are on that album. @@scottcrosby-art5490 It can't be, unless this performance we are watching is BEFORE they went into the studio to record it, because Ian joined the band & recorded this song in late 1969 on the album "In Rock". It was released in 1970 & this performance is from 1970, so I'm not seeing how it could be Rod Evans, unless the song was already complete & they were performing it live earlier in 1969 before Ian Gillan recorded it in the studio.
Hash is a great song but if you want to hear the real Deep Purple for the first time, start with Hishway Star, Smoke on the Water and then with the masterpiece Child in Time (I recommend the 1970 live version that you find on YT) ... just to get started!
They just came out with a new album only 3 of the original band members though. There is No other Keyboardist that compares to Jon Lord. Richie Blackmore doing his own thing.
still waiting for you to react to Sixto Rodriquiz . I recommend 'I wonder' but, knowing how you really don't react to non monetised content, i don't hold my breath
Glad to see you try out Deep Purple... one of the very few bands which were often better live. Here's a favorite: review it if you're in the mood. Like your videos! Subscribed. ruclips.net/video/7zKAS7XOWaQ/видео.html
May i sugest you a band? Hard fi. With songs like cash machine, living for the weekend, hard to beat... Just listen to it. A reaction would be great. 😘

I'm 64, watching a young woman listen to music I grew up with.
Very cool.
Love this song. Heavy radio rotation when it first came out. You felt every instrument...like you always do❗🎵 Thanks for this old BANGER.
DEEP PURPLE, "HUSH" WHAT A COMPLETE JAAAAMMMMM!!!!!
Jon Lord with that unique percussive style on the Hammond Organ. Much missed.
One of those desert island songs that somehow flies under the radar time and again. This song is what was used to be referred to as "a happening"!
this reaction is so dope ! we need more purple

That. Is a bass line and it keeps the song chugging along. Thanks for mentioning the often overlooked bass
This version put Deep Purple on the rock n roll map!

My favorite song of theirs. Good choice :-)
I like their version better than the original done by Billy Joe Royal
Great classic. A good driving song

susan figueroa no this is the original
@@scottcrosby-art5490 It was first recorded by Billy Joe Royal in 1967. The Deep Purple version came out in 1968 I think.
She got it!,,!!
This young lady is thoroughly enjoying this gem!
What's with the nose?
Smoke On The Water is their claim to fame, but Hush is my favorite song of theirs. Soooo catchy and easy to move to.
Good choice thanks Scribe.

we "boomers" had some awesome music...didn't we?
More Deep Purple! "Space Truckin'", "Woman From Tokyo", and of course, "Smoke On The Water"...
And the Address isn't a bad choice either.
Please react to mistreated by deep purple live in 1974. I guarantee you'll love it
Ian Paice, one of the best drummers ever.
Agreed! Also, Ian Paice and Roger Glover- one of the best rhythm sections in all of Rock, ever.
The Eric Gales version of "Hush" totally smokes! Killer guitar and drums!! Deep Purple would be proud!!

Their song “Smoke on the Water” is a must if you haven’t done it yet- Studio version as well- 💜✌️✨
This song is best listening at 11 on a 10 scale.

this line up of Deep Purple was okay but the classic line up came later when Ian Gillan and Roger Glover joined the band on bass and vocals.

2 songs that are must hears of Deep Purple are "Child in Time" and "Highway Star"
Way to into this song to not have heard it before lol
Child in time is my absolute favorite deep purple song for both lyrics and music (hint hint)
Lord of the Keys!
Oh yea love this ☺
At what stage did we lose the organ solo from the music?
The singer is telling his other woman to hush because he thinks the woman he loves, whose broken his heart, is calling his name!
Check out "mistreated" from the burn album.awesome guitar and vocal!
This is the SAME GUY that sang on BLACK SABBATH "Disturbing the Priest"
Ian Gillan is the master OG screamer.
black star this wasn’t Ian Gillan it is the original singer

Kula Shaker did a great cover of this in the late 90s.
I didn’t realise it was a cover. I LOVE Kula Shaker! Mystical Machine Gun, Golden Avatar, Sound of Drums, Shower Your Love.
caroline clemons They’re a great band. And still making great music. “K” was an incredible debut album.

Yes. lol

I guess music will bring on the stank face, and It's never a good look, especially when you start with a deficit.
