I've used the PETE for the past 3 years and it was of limited benefit. The really big problem with the PETE is you have to be VERY careful how you use it and don't try to see how long you can hold it between the center of the lips. I found you have a tendency to clamp down on the device and this tends to promote clamping or pinching of embouchure. I found the PETE helped to maintain range but it really impacted my tone and flexibility. I think this is true of just about any isometric exercise for the lips such as the pencil, lip buzzing etc. My advice is to use a device to strengthen the corners of the embouchure only. Avoid tension at the center of the lips.
I bought this thing about a year ago. It hasn't helped my embouchure to play the horn at all. I only improved at performing the exercises on the devise only. None of that strengthening improvement that occurred with the devise, translated to any improvement for playing the horn itself. Everyone has different facial muscles & teeth formation. Not everyone will experience improvement playing their instrument by using this thing. The only thing that ever helped my trumpet playing, is consistent practicing on the horn itself & warming up on the mouthpiece.
Watched the video and considering purchasing the plastic version. Less than $25. IMHO using tools like this are not a fix it all device. The best thing I can do for myself is a planned and consistent daily practice routine.
Thanks for your review. I am a new student, I am assuming using this device correctly will help me gain strength because starting new om the trumpet let’s face it I have very little control, ....Iam hoping within 90 days I’ll feel increased strength. what’s your thoughts about a new trumpet student using this to get a kick start ?
Has this helped your endurance for playing long periods of time? With solos, I tend to feel my lips straining and getting tired as I’m doing run-throughs and it could be a problem on performances. Do you feel like the PETE helped you on things like that?
malachi davis so, I’m not a very good tell if it does that or not. I’ve always had really good endurance so I’m not sure if those effects have happened for me. However, MANY people have claimed that it does that for them. It is also one of the benefits Warburton says it will five people who use the PETE So...yes?
@@crarytrombone9672 I used it right. didn't help nor any advance. Do each day the first two exercises of Carmine Caruso, and after a while you'll get embochure of steel.
AKCEuph I normally use my pete after practice or a long rehearsal, it really does help. I switched from a schilke 51d to an SM4 and loved the difference in sound with the SM4 but immediately found out that anything over a high A sounded very forced and using the pete after practicing slurs on the euph with the SM4 has really helped with my higher register.

Art Morgan yeah! It’s for sure not a substitute for good ol hard work but it’s a nice little helper tool.

I am going to buy this for the time I get these braces off
That is a great present for you after dealing with that....as well as the new smile =)
Save yourself the money, the P.E.T.E does not worth the money, I bought and used it. useless.
Ilan K too late. I already bought it 2 moths ago. It helps if you use it correctly

Ilan K how long have you used this?
