I love how the c6 vettes have a great stock muffler. All you need is something to open the valves manually. Also keep in mind used mufflers are a great option. Its just a muffler. If it breaks the car is gonna be fine.
On all of my builds, I've always done headers and intake before the tune so that I can get the most out of that initial $600. After that, everything else is just a small retune fee. Also, I've always installed my headers and intake myself to save a few hundred dollars. That extra money goes to the cam fund. Other than that, your list is pretty much spot on to me

As far as exhaust goes, I found that if you get them straight piped all the way until the muffler (so cut the cats and everything besides the muffler itself) that your car will still have more power and roar! You can also get mufflers that don’t inhibit as much as others. That way you still get performance sound and power but it’s not so loud that you can’t hear yourself. I have the 2007 with the LS2. First thing I changed was the headers, x pipe with cats, intake and intake manifold (fast102). It was real nice. You don't need a tune for all that, but I did it anyway. With all that, it gave me just around 390 hp at the wheel. I then changed the exhaust to a Billy Boat, and I slightly regret that part. Now I get drone between 1200 and 1700 rpm and it rattles on the gas tank heat shields. Many mechanics tried to fix this, but it just keeps coming back. Still, it is still a good fun car.

I was looking at getting a cam, but I live in Las Vegas, and even with tuning, there is no guarantee I would pass smog. Plus, the 4 months of extreme heat means the car would probably run like crap. And in the long run, there just are not many places I can even use stock power. For me, cosmetic upgrades work better.

I think it could go either way One reason I chose headers first is because I see alot of people complaining that their $1,500 Borla Atak is not loud as they thought it would be and they are highly upset. However, it’s usually because they are asking the opinion of people that already have headers and assumed they did. You right tho... it’s best to get the intake at the same time you get a tune for headers or cam, etc. I chose to do it when I got it cammed. Thanks for the feedback and watching!

Good content bruh! Keep it coming. I have a 13' GS with borla headers, x-pipe and borla extreme catback plus a tune. About to switch my Holly intake to a Vararam Snake Charmer. Next will be cams and heads plus another tune.
I appreciate you watching! That Vararam is supposed to be the best out there. It’s one of the few intakes that is actually a true “cold” air intake. You gone love that cam!!! It never gets old!!!
I personally wouldn’t change gears until I figured out my goals. You might end up having to change multiple times. Not to mention if you switch tire size (26, 28, etc), you’re essentially changing the gearing. Too many variables to suggest gears in this video.
Hey Jake. Thanks For the video….. Getting ready to do some Mods and you cleared up in my mind how to go about it. BTW I have a 13 GS with the open close Exchaust. Maybe in your next video you can answer a couple of more questions? Your thoughts on Chips and Some quality brands for Headers Cams Intake Superchargers That you think will provide the best result. Thanks again Jake Well done Bob D
if you're doing a cam before your supercharger/turbocharger you would have to get another cam meant for boost instead of a N/A cam. The N/A cam still works but if your wanting to get max performance get a turbo cam or boost cam.
When I got my 05 c6 it had a borla exhaust in the trunk that had been removed by the seller so I had it installed and it feels like I lost a lot of power
Hey man we are car twins i got a white 11 grandsport auto aswell, and yes no npp exhaust on mine neither lol and yes i got headers and a tune as first mod, haven ran it at the track tuned yet, but i ran 12.47 stock and 12.17 with headers and no tune in summer texas weather im sure now with the tune ill be in the 11s, ran a ferrari 458 on the highway the other day from like a 80 to 150 im pretty sure it was driver mod but i still got em by 2 cars
What's up man! Nice!!!! I've only ran mine on a 1/4 track one time with old street tires. Spinning the whole time. Those are good ET's !!! You'll definitely bee in the 11's. It's been awhile since I had any street fun. I bet that was a blast!!
Mine is 227/239. It surges when it's cold..... just enough that I like it! 😀 My car is in the shop now getting a converter so it shouldn't surge at all. Can't wait to get it back.
This is highly subjective and depends on the short term and final goals for the car. Dig, roll, track. Suspension, tires and drivetrain mods are sometimes more effective than power adders. Example: NA track car would not benefit from a blower or turbo and would struggle with deep gearing, but proper suspension and tires would improve times drastically. There are bascially four levels of power mods: Basic bolt on, full bolt on, H/C NA, and FI. Axle back exhaust is worthless except sound. Best bang for the buck on C6 is basic bolt on and cam car. Cheap and fast from hit to quit
For peace of mind replace harmonic balancer , timing chain cam gear and high volume oil pump these parts don't make power they save you future problems
I don’t get how CAI for this car are 500+. On every other car I’ve worked on I’ve seen really nice fender CAI and sealed ones for 300. Looks like more material goes into them than the corvette intakes. Maybe because of the massive filter itself but I’m sure those are mass produced and fit any c5 and c6
I’m in the market for one well maybe in 6months I’ll push the button it was between a C6 Grand Sport or 6th Gen 2SS but I think im going vette better car for the money did want an updated interior but I can fix to how I want it
@@JReedsLoveofCars that’s wassup can’t wait to own one. One day I’ll def take your advice on the mods but I gotta add e85 and tune cause 93 prices through the roof might as well throw the cai, headers/ xpipe on then later cam it with supporting mods
Good advice bro. Have 2006 drop top got it in 2007 only thing I have done (myself) has been to install Borla Attack exhaust. Really love the sound. Oh also also auto paddle shift which I always use. Love the car & sound, but have thought about cold air intake? Should I consider headers 1st. Don’t race just enjoy the sound! Would appreciate your input. Thanks John L. L
Thank you! If you’re going twins, I would skip the headers. Otherwise you will be replacing them again for turbo manifolds. I would skip the cold air intake too. Basically skip everything that you’re going to have to replace again when you get the turbos.
Good look for your c6, the white with blacked out emblem and sides. My yt image is my cyber grey, my current is dark midnight blue, blacked out, a beaut. The headlights are some work but a great look. 🍀🍀

@@JReedsLoveofCars thx bud, yep i did one afternoon down in SC 2 years ago. It is actually not hard. Soap water the back of the tint film, spray the light. Get in the summer sun. Let the headlight and tint sit in the sun about an hour [before the spray with water]. Then, for each...place the tint in and, silly as it sounds. Thumb and forefinger the tint to fit. The heat friction warms the tint and allows it to flatten over the curve. Just keep all wet w dawn and water mix. Then shammy over to dry....i had 0 air bubbles. 🍀🍀
Great video! I’m looking into getting a Grand Sport. I want to do ARH headers, Corsa Sport exhaust, Halltech cold air intake, and a tune. I’m torn between keeping the NPP and doing the Corsa sport. I love the sound of Corsa systems, but with the headers, I’m worried about making my neighbors hate me.
Thank you! If you have NPP, I would stick with that; especially if you're looking at the Corsa Sport. It will probably be about the same. I usually start mine up with the garage door down in the mornings. Other than that, they will get over it. Having said that, one of my neighbors has a 1500hp Z06 and another neighbor has a straight piped hellcat so I'm actually the reasonable guy. LOL
I live in an emission county in NC. I assume most of you don't have to pass that . Also the EPA has recently cracked down on diesels and have stated anything changed from factory is illegal . IDK how far they will push ...but ... isnt that a concern? .
There’s several other mods you can do, but those will net you negligible benefits. Maybe if you are trying to squeeze out the last few HP. For example, I have a ported and polished throttle body.
How you doing sir ? Beautiful Z06! How’s the engine any famous over rated valve issues ? Thanks. I’m on the market for a stock Z06 2008 and that’s the only thing I’m concerned about I don’t plan to race or track just spirited driving here and there.
Thanks! Mine is actually a Grand sport so I don’t have the valve issues. However, I will say that most of the problems you read on the Internet, are true. I’m learning that myself!
I first went with full exhaust x pipe and headers on my 06 Z06. Now I'm doing V3 supercharger CNC ported heads and BTR wildcat blower cam along with a stroker kit. I want this set up to last until I build an LsX block Any other things I can add?
I wouldn’t recommend gears first. Gears require tires that hook or in a ditch you go and most people are not going to street race or become a track regular. Gears require you to have a plan for the car (rr/strip/autox/etc) which is also why I wouldn’t recommend a converter first. Both will definitely wake the car up but not a first mod. One needs to figure out what direction if anything they want to go. Headers work for every application.
@@JReedsLoveofCars this is an age old debate for C5s and C6s. The traction assumption by those not familiar with gears is just not accurate. I’ve run 4.10s and 3.90s in the C5 and that’s a myth about traction. In fact the steeper gear regains traction after slippage much faster than the stock 3.42. Which means while throttling during a wheel spin the taller gear is easier to manage and regain traction because it spins slower. The issue with a header first is do you buy 1 3/4 or 1 7/8? The 1 3/4 is good for NA applications until you want to make big power and or go FI. Then you need a 1 7/8 to maximize performance output. Plus a second tune. Then if you do heads later (which most do) you’ll need to tune again. You already have $1000 to $1500 in tune time alone at this point. Plus if you don’t spend the big money to get a better brand (kooks, LG) you’ll be burning through 02 sensors like it’s your day job. You do raise a good point about tires. Any c5 or c6 running stock EMT run flats...first mod they should is get new tires.
Post script...the gear swap to 3.90 or 4.10 diff also drastically reduces the drone. Especially in 5th or 6th at cruise speeds. The RPMs are up and keep you outside of the “drone zone”. Don’t fear the gear! The above pertains to MN6 trans. Not the A4 auto. I have no experience with the autos.
I think it depends on your goals. I started out with cosmetics mods first. I looked for mods that give me the most value per dollar and worked my way up. For example, I wrapped my halo. That's a $40 mod that made a dramatic difference. In regards to performance, I will always suggest headers, exhaust and a tune. You get more hp and the cold starts are tremendous! Some people will get a cold air intake at the same time. That depends on your budget.
I'm new here...Picked up an 06 C6 with a stick a couple of years ago...My first mods were a mild cam and headers and a dyno tune...Pushing 420 hp but it actually feels weaker off the line than my stock 06 GTO 4 speed auto. Over 100 it's like a rocket but down low it's nothing special.. Would a Vararam intake do anything for off the line performance?? Never thought about going with lower gears..Any other suggestions??
@@JReedsLoveofCars Two grand or a little more...I don't get on it off the line much...but did so a month or so ago and caught and passed my adversary on a deserted road with ease..It just doesn't feel that fast low to mid range...Would I need to retune if adding the Vararam intake? I've got a FAST intake manifold sitting in my garage...Is it worth the trouble to install. Really appreciate that you get back to your supporters..

Thank you sir, now I need to wait for this market to crash so I'm not paying 20k for a C6
Kool, thanks for the mods advice in plain layman terms
No problem! Thanks for watching!!
I'm about to get a base c6, thanks for the advice.
Nice! You'll love it!
What about changing the long gear in the rear end?
I personally wouldn’t change gears until I figured out my goals. You might end up having to change multiple times. Not to mention if you switch tire size (26, 28, etc), you’re essentially changing the gearing. Too many variables to suggest gears in this video.
Broooooooo 11:16 has me rolling !! Subscribed just because of that alone lmao
😁. My man! Preciate it!!
I just did flex fuel intake an full exhaust . Dyno 415hp on e85 and 400 on 91 .
Nice!!! I think mine dyno’d at 403 with full exhaust so your numbers are spot on. you got a A6?
Hey Jake. Thanks For the video…..
Getting ready to do some Mods and you cleared up in my mind how to go about it. BTW I have a 13 GS with the open close Exchaust.
Maybe in your next video you can answer a couple of more questions?
Your thoughts on Chips and
Some quality brands for
Headers
Cams
Intake
Superchargers
That you think will provide the best result.
Thanks again Jake
Well done

Straight pipe with headers is crazy tbh 😭
Super sweet!!! Freakin love it!!!
Thanks!!!
I like this guy 👍🏻
Awesome vid, straight facts on every word
thanks!!
Very smart advice
I Agree
Great information and great youtube video! Subscribed!
Thanks!!👍🏾
Man, you keep saying Varam lol.... I had the Vararam, loved it..
Man I’m country. I’m not surprised! Lol
if you're doing a cam before your supercharger/turbocharger you would have to get another cam meant for boost instead of a N/A cam. The N/A cam still works but if your wanting to get max performance get a turbo cam or boost cam.
100%. Same goes for nitrous
Every cam is a turbo cam
@@faxxzc homie say what
@@brody.strouth go watch some richard holdener, he explains it in great detail
When I got my 05 c6 it had a borla exhaust in the trunk that had been removed by the seller so I had it installed and it feels like I lost a lot of power
Interesting.
Hahaha!! "Your tuner was giving you a hand job." Haha haha.
But the salesman told me it was the best!!!
Really good advice 🎉
Thanks for watching!
On point brotha 💯
Preciate it!!! Thanks for watching!
Great video 🤞🏽 gave some good advice
Appreciate it
My c6 is currently in the shop for a HCI installation I cant wait :)
Gonna love it!!! It still makes me smile!
Great video thanks man!
Thanks for checking it out!👍🏾
Hey man we are car twins i got a white 11 grandsport auto aswell, and yes no npp exhaust on mine neither lol and yes i got headers and a tune as first mod, haven ran it at the track tuned yet, but i ran 12.47 stock and 12.17 with headers and no tune in summer texas weather im sure now with the tune ill be in the 11s, ran a ferrari 458 on the highway the other day from like a 80 to 150 im pretty sure it was driver mod but i still got em by 2 cars
What's up man! Nice!!!! I've only ran mine on a 1/4 track one time with old street tires. Spinning the whole time. Those are good ET's !!! You'll definitely bee in the 11's. It's been awhile since I had any street fun. I bet that was a blast!!
I got a BTR Jam cam 230 intake and 242 exhaust that’s about all the stock converter can hold I got an 08 LS3
"tuner was giving you a handjob at the same time" lmaooo thanks for the vid bro solid info. I'm seriously researching C6 right now
For peace of mind replace harmonic balancer , timing chain cam gear and high volume oil pump these parts don't make power they save you future problems
My guess is the “corvette tax” You can find them for $300-$400. The most popular, VARARAM, will cost you about $380.
Great video!
Thanks for watching!
You don't need removed intake to put cam in, only valve covers
who said you had to do that?
@@JReedsLoveofCars listen to 9:37 in your video. That what you said.
you can’t put a cam in without removing the intake as in CAI. Not intake manifold
I’m in the market for one well maybe in 6months I’ll push the button it was between a C6 Grand Sport or 6th Gen 2SS but I think im going vette better car for the money did want an updated interior but I can fix to how I want it
Nice! I agree the interior is dated. I rarely ever listen to the radio, but I upgraded it to modernize the console a bit
L
If you get headers, you should get a CAI at the same time. That way you’re paying for one tune to get the most bang for your buck!
Gettin heads done do not costs that much at all
Love the build! Looking to buy a C6 very soon. Going the twin turbo route; would you still recommend this order? Minus the supercharger obviously lol
Thank you! If you’re going twins, I would skip the headers. Otherwise you will be replacing them again for turbo manifolds. I would skip the cold air intake too. Basically skip everything that you’re going to have to replace again when you get the turbos.
New sub!
👊🏾
Good look for your c6, the white with blacked out emblem and sides. My yt image is my cyber grey, my current is dark midnight blue, blacked out, a beaut. The headlights are some work but a great look.
🍀🍀
so you blacked out your headlights? I've tried that about 3 times and failed miserably each time!! I bet that cyber grey looks good!!! Thx for watching!
🍀🍀
Nice!!! Thx. I’m going to save this!!
@@JReedsLoveofCars sure, feel free also yo reach out if u have questions. Take care!
LOL
Good video!!
Thanks for watching!
@@JReedsLoveofCars thanks for the information. I’m shopping for my first corvette now.
No problem! Good luck on your search!
I live in an emission county in NC. I assume most of you don't have to pass that . Also the EPA has recently cracked down on diesels and have stated anything changed from factory is illegal . IDK how far they will push ...but ... isnt that a concern? .
We have emissions in Texas in most counties. I have never failed one. I’m not too worried about that here.
What about a bigger throttle body and intake manifold?
There’s several other mods you can do, but those will net you negligible benefits. Maybe if you are trying to squeeze out the last few HP. For example, I have a ported and polished throttle body.
I've been searching the internet to answer the question of: Can the Longtube Headers bolt to the stock C6 exhaust?
yes
Ported heads , upgrade valve springs & rocker arms, add cam, headers, upgraded intake , nitrous, enjoy your 600hp hp
Facts!!
What headers do you recommend???
Seems like the most used is Kooks.
Funny Guy!
What stage cam. You have in auto c6 max
custom grind. basically a stage 3
Id rather have a naturally aspirated C6 all day everyday
I definitely would too, if it was a Z06. You can make at least 600-650 with no boost.
Where in Texas are you and what shop do you use? Im on Austin myself. Just got a c6
Dallas area! Congrats! You're gonna love it! I've had mine for almost 10 years, and I love it the same as I did on day one, if not more!
Nice, great video! I never comment. But i appreciate this one
I first went with full exhaust x pipe and headers on my 06 Z06.
Now I'm doing V3 supercharger CNC ported heads and BTR wildcat blower cam along with a stroker kit.
I want this set up to last until I build an LsX block
Any other things I can add?
looks like you got it covered!! Are you upgrading your fuel system to add meth or e85? I that would be the next thing I would do with your setup.
@@JReedsLoveofCars I will when I upgrade to the LSX
I respectfully disagree. First mod should be gears in the rear diff. 100% best bang for the buck. Not headers with a tune.
I daily my c6 manual vette, what do you think I should add first. Considering it needs to still be a comfortable daily driver
What about that foxbody though?
the fox body is a different animal. I will have make a vid about that
what else do you recommend on a ls3 that has headers exhaust and tune? i want to do the cam last and do others things before gettig to it.
you can get a cold air intake and a larger throttle body
Seat time on a racetrack with instruction. This car needs little else once you learn how to drive fast. On track
Great info! Thanks. Am looking into a C6 or C7 GS or Z06... prolly looking at a GS with the best track package. Still learning all the trim levels.
Thanks for watching!
Hi Kurt. The Vararam won’t help off the line but it give you a few more ponies. A stick shift should be quick off the line. What rpms are launch at?
@@JReedsLoveofCars Two grand or a little more...I don't get on it off the line much...but did so a month or so ago and caught and passed my adversary on a deserted road with ease..It just doesn't feel that fast low to mid range...Would I need to retune if adding the Vararam intake? I've got a FAST intake manifold sitting in my garage...Is it worth the trouble to install. Really appreciate that you get back to your supporters..
