    I love how the c6 vettes have a great stock muffler. All you need is something to open the valves manually. Also keep in mind used mufflers are a great option. Its just a muffler. If it breaks the car is gonna be fine.

    On all of my builds, I've always done headers and intake before the tune so that I can get the most out of that initial $600. After that, everything else is just a small retune fee. Also, I've always installed my headers and intake myself to save a few hundred dollars. That extra money goes to the cam fund. Other than that, your list is pretty much spot on to me

    Got my 2007 C6 coupe 3 years ago. As I blew by the State Police at about 160mph, still accelerating, receiving my first speeding ticket in 35 years, it dawned on me that just having this car is all the mod I need!😜
    BTW . . . The Statie did me a solid and wrote the ticket so that I wouldn't catch a felony reckless driving case.

    Headers, X pipe and exhaust complete!

  • @benjaminwoodman
    @benjaminwoodman 3 года назад +15

    As far as exhaust goes, I found that if you get them straight piped all the way until
    the muffler (so cut the cats and everything besides the muffler itself) that your car will still have more power and roar! You can also get mufflers that don’t inhibit as much as others. That way you still get performance sound and power but it’s not so loud that you can’t hear yourself. Drone sounds cool but if you drive it a lot it will grow to bother you, and good luck keeping a woman in the passenger seat lol.

The stock heads will flow just as much as $3500 after market heads after porting and it wont cost you $3500. I have the 2007 with the LS2. First thing I changed was the headers, x pipe with cats, intake and intake manifold (fast102). It was real nice. You don't need a tune for all that, but I did it anyway. With all that, it gave me just around 390 hp at the wheel. I then changed the exhaust to a Billy Boat, and I slightly regret that part. Now I get drone between 1200 and 1700 rpm and it rattles on the gas tank heat shields. Many mechanics tried to fix this, but it just keeps coming back. Still, it is still a good fun car.

    • @JReedsLoveofCars
      @JReedsLoveofCars  11 месяцев назад

      How do you like hte fast intake? I was wondering about those! That was the main consideration when I chose the Corsa. I didn't want drone either. Having said that it drones a little around the same RPM range, but I don't notice it unless I'm looking for it. Either way, the car is almost too loud to conversate. I love it!

    • @eyemastervideo

    I think it's best to know your goals and go from there, like for me I want a nice 500-550 whp N/A build and could probably have the package done for around $5500. I feel if you do things separate somewhere along the line you'll take a hit in the wallet.

    • @JReedsLoveofCars
      @JReedsLoveofCars  3 года назад +4

    I was looking at getting a cam, but I live in Las Vegas, and even with tuning, there is no guarantee I would pass smog. Plus, the 4 months of extreme heat means the car would probably run like crap. I had a supercharged C6 and was on the strip one night in 108 degree temps. Car stalled out at every stop (and the strip was all stop 'n go that night). And in the long run, there just are not many places I can even use stock power. For me, cosmetic upgrades work better.

    • @JReedsLoveofCars
      @JReedsLoveofCars  Год назад

      The cam is worth it for the sound but if you can’t pass smog, that’s another issue. One of the reasons I chose nitrous is because I daily mine. Didn’t want to deal with overheating issues. I think the hottest I’ve been on the track here is in the 90’s at night. 108 is brutal!

      @guygourley2411 Год назад +1

    My first upgrades were new Michelin PS4s tires and Bilstein sport shocks which really did make a big difference (runflats suck!). I've got a '12 base C6 with a 6MT and if you put it in competition mode with the traction control off it has a good amount of power just stock and I think maybe another 50-100whp would be perfect for me.

    • @JReedsLoveofCars
      @JReedsLoveofCars  2 года назад +1

      Nice!! A MT will feel way better than a stock A6 and quicker from a dig. I didn’t realize how bad my run flats were until I bought new tires

  • @speedycpu
    @speedycpu 2 года назад +1

    Haha, true on the supercharger. I barely get to get into the power. Running a maxed out D1sc, pushing right around 1100 hp (at engine not the wheels). Almost no place available to rip it more than 3 seconds. :(
    One mod you guys should do is E85 and injectors. If you can't tune it yourself, add it with a mod like headers, so they can do both. The Grand Sport is 10.7:1 compression and takes good advantage of it. If you are supercharged, it makes a huge difference. You can add a DSX e85 sensor and install injectors yourself. Just do the injectors while at the tuning shop because you can't drive on the new ones until you put the new data in the computer.

    In my opinion your #1 & #2 needs to be reversed. Reason I say this is them at you can add mufflers w/o a tune and when you get the headers you're gonna need a tune so why not do the Intake at the same time. Great advice here overall though!!

    • @JReedsLoveofCars
      @JReedsLoveofCars  3 года назад +7

      I think it could go either way One reason I chose headers first is because I see alot of people complaining that their $1,500 Borla Atak is not loud as they thought it would be and they are highly upset. However, it’s usually because they are asking the opinion of people that already have headers and assumed they did. You right tho... it’s best to get the intake at the same time you get a tune for headers or cam, etc. I chose to do it when I got it cammed. Thanks for the feedback and watching!

    This is highly subjective and depends on the short term and final goals for the car. Dig, roll, track. Suspension, tires and drivetrain mods are sometimes more effective than power adders. Example: NA track car would not benefit from a blower or turbo and would struggle with deep gearing, but proper suspension and tires would improve times drastically. There are bascially four levels of power mods: Basic bolt on, full bolt on, H/C NA, and FI. Axle back exhaust is worthless except sound. Best bang for the buck on C6 is basic bolt on and cam car. Cheap and fast from hit to quit

Then, for each...place the tint in and, silly as it sounds. Thumb and forefinger the tint to fit. The heat friction warms the tint and allows it to flatten over the curve. I respectfully disagree. First mod should be gears in the rear diff. 100% best bang for the buck. Not headers with a tune.

    • @JReedsLoveofCars
      @JReedsLoveofCars  3 года назад

      I wouldn’t recommend gears first. Gears require tires that hook or in a ditch you go and most people are not going to street race or become a track regular. Gears require you to have a plan for the car (rr/strip/autox/etc) which is also why I wouldn’t recommend a converter first. Both will definitely wake the car up but not a first mod. One needs to figure out what direction if anything they want to go. Headers work for every application.

    • @gotmylk
      @gotmylk 3 года назад +1

      @@JReedsLoveofCars this is an age old debate for C5s and C6s. The traction assumption by those not familiar with gears is just not accurate.
      I’ve run 4.10s and 3.90s in the C5 and that’s a myth about traction. In fact the steeper gear regains traction after slippage much faster than the stock 3.42. Which means while throttling during a wheel spin the taller gear is easier to manage and regain traction because it spins slower.
      The issue with a header first is do you buy 1 3/4 or 1 7/8? The 1 3/4 is good for NA applications until you want to make big power and or go FI. Then you need a 1 7/8 to maximize performance output. Plus a second tune. Then if you do heads later (which most do) you’ll need to tune again. You already have $1000 to $1500 in tune time alone at this point.
      Plus if you don’t spend the big money to get a better brand (kooks, LG) you’ll be burning through 02 sensors like it’s your day job.
      You do raise a good point about tires. Any c5 or c6 running stock EMT run flats...first mod they should is get new tires.

    • @gotmylk
      @gotmylk 3 года назад

      Post script...the gear swap to 3.90 or 4.10 diff also drastically reduces the drone. Especially in 5th or 6th at cruise speeds. The RPMs are up and keep you outside of the “drone zone”.
      Don’t fear the gear!
      The above pertains to MN6 trans. Not the A4 auto. I have no experience with the autos.

    • @JReedsLoveofCars
      @JReedsLoveofCars  2 года назад

      I think it depends on your goals. I started out with cosmetics mods first. I looked for mods that give me the most value per dollar and worked my way up. For example, I wrapped my halo. That's a $40 mod that made a dramatic difference. In regards to performance, I will always suggest headers, exhaust and a tune. You get more hp and the cold starts are tremendous! Some people will get a cold air intake at the same time. That depends on your budget.
