    Thank you for your inspiring and positive content! How do you manage the constant train/taper/recover cycle with races so close together? Does it just get easier with time? Like you need less taper/recovery? Like you, I get excited about new events. Like I have a plan at the moment for 5 races, but also know I'm likely to add a few more. I'm never 100% sure on how I'm supposed to manage the weeks between races when they're only 3-4 weeks apart. I mostly run for fun, so I'm not training to win or set records, but I'm on the older side, so winning for my old-lady division is usually within my grasp and I can't help but feel competitive on race day.

    • @runningwithsimon
      @runningwithsimon  7 месяцев назад +2

      I don't think it gets any easier, but I can detect much more easily if something is "wrong" and act accordingly (mainly, just resting longer as needed if slightly injured). But it overall, it take as long as before. I typically do 5-7 days taper where I'll hardly run (just low and slow miles) and after a race, takes 4-10 days before I feel well enough to get back to full on training. I try to move as quickly as possible after a race (usually starts with some walk, then eventually slow jog for 1-2 miles, then longer, then back to normal). I play it 'by ear' - which is the only thing that has improved. The other aspect that is important to mention is that I don't think I'm 100% back to normal when I race 100 miler 3 weeks apart. But maybe I'm like, 90%? It's hard to put number, but basically, I'm well enough that I can complete the event and not be injured. But there's no doubt that performance-wise, longer time between races would have been important. And not just longer time between race, but also, proper training cycles. Because at some point, it's clearly not productive training anymore. I have maybe 1, at most 2, weeks of proper training a month, then BANG a race (which is fairly destructive) and so on. I'm fairly stable but I think I was faster before (e.g., Leadville 2021 was ~24h30, whereas now I'm closer to 28h30). But I'm perfectly happy racing a lot and not caring about speed - my limit is mostly about staying injury-free.
