After we lost Peep, X, and Juice we basically lost the godfathers of emo rap. But the thing is the emo rap genre has a lot of pain and addiction in it, it is by definition emotional music. And I believe the genre just by its nature be very volatile. But it saved my life tho real shit.

As someone who mainly listens to emorap I feel that this video only really tackles the mainstream hits where there is such a thriving underground community like guardin,9tails(sewerperson),
Convolk, and more it's a gross underrepresented of the real players in a genre that was never really mainstream and had standouts if anyone wants to really see the current culture of emo rap try the artists above. i personally don’t get the kid laroi hate, it’s quite clear he was just more of a singer than a rapper and he was in the rap scene for a bit but over time his ‘rapping’ wasn’t that good so he decided to just go into pop because even if it’s maybe not what he wanted to do that’s what suited his skill set more. He still makes the occasional rap song like his last album he had a few and there was burning up with nardo wick which i did like but it doesn’t mean people should hate on him just cus he suits another genre more

honestly it's a lot like punk, in the mid to late 70s punk music was at its peak, then people went overboard in the 80s (something someone like John Lydon fkn hated) so him and post OG punks moved onto different sounds and thus post punk and all these other sub genres.. it got a similar 5 year run of good emo rap from 2014-2019 then idk like Darby Crash and Sid Vicious, people od'd or self delete themselves etc. Feels like history just repeating sadly..

I hate MGK as much as the next person trust me. However, MGK has always been involved in the ACTUAL emo scene. And he wasnt always a rapper. Way back like 8/7 yrs ago and more than that, since the beginning of his career i think, he’d be on warped tour, and do songs with different bands like Sleeping with sirens. He was always in the actual emo scene and made some music of that genre (not typical emo rap) so, respectfully, im gonna have to say you’re actually wrong on this. I hate mgk but its just facts. Ya he probs switched cus of em but he already had those years of making that kind of music to go off of, and have love for the actual real emo scene, so i really dont believe it was just a cash grab or a thing he did to purely and only just capitalize off the sound. I went thru my late tweens early teens listening to emo & post hardcore bands so i remember all this.

Look at 100 gecs, glaive, ericdoa, etc. They're all influenced by those same kinda emo melodies, they're just placed over more uptempo and electronic production.

All their music you felt as well as heard, you felt the emotion, the pain, the anger, the sadness, the realness, the cries for help, their art was crazy and it’s honestly so sad we don’t get to hear more music from these artists as they have now passed because the talent all 3 of them possessed is crazy and they would and probably still will go down as legends to the new wave of teenagers and even the old heads have the respect their music at this point like it or not.
