How can you marry someone as manipulative as she is. Everything that she does, is to manipulate him into doing something. He's lazy and kind of a crappy boyfriend, but she is a terrible person. All the things that he does, is a reaction to her and her manipulation. Go scene by scene and she's just an awful person. Even her best friend tries to convince her not to do the things that she does. And then when she finally does have the conversation with him, that she should have had the day after the breakup, he attempts to change into the person that she wants him to be. And she rejects him.
This is a great example that everyone needs to have a space they can call their own. We, humans, grow up towards independence and work towards carving a place we can call our own, but then we co-habitat with a significant other and loose our own bed, our own bathroom, our own bedroom, our own kitchen, our own garage, sometimes our own car or bank account, etc. If you want your relationship to thrive over time, have some time and space for each that is not shared. You're going to spend a lot of time together, having your own corner where you enjoy your own hobbies and tv-shows is healthy for the relationship, otherwise, you end up in a co-dependent mess where one doesn't function without the other but your also functioning poorly with each other, meaning you're in a dysfunctional relationship.

My wife used to idolize her but now she realizes that she's better off without having followed in her footsteps. She still keeps tabs about her and says it's really sad she didn't leave that Hollywood liberal outlook. Jennifer Aniston has nobody, really...she's gone through multiple divorces, has no kids, does Liberal Politics and will likely die alone with nobody but strangers adoring her. When we look at this movie today, we see the liberal fantasy tropes about "Independent Women".... and people giving bad advice about relationships....the woman who plays Aniston's sister and is a "Married wife" actually never had a stable relationship and is also childless. Again, this is just Hollywood trying to "teach" about relationships it has no business in teaching. If you want to find a person to spend your life with, the LAST thing you should learn from is Hollywood Movies. If you want to know a good person, do what everyone has done since time immemorial: look at their personal life and see if they have things in order. (Vince Vaughn is one of the only actors in this movie who actually has a respectable family life)

This film was very funny, but quite sad at the same time. This film takes us from the birth, and to the eventual death, of a relationship, which can be quite a ride. Anyone with a heart will find it tremendously difficult to watch a relationship implode. Maybe this film should be required viewing for all those couples who believe they have a future, and are just starting out. For me, this film was difficult to watch at times because many of the moments came pretty close to home. Like Gary, I learned most my relationship lessons way too late, and at some great cost. However, for what it's worth, I did learn these lessons well and I can only hope that I am better for it today.
