Your patience is honestly amazing, when I was an apprentice it felt like the person “teaching” me expected me to listen once and never forget, and if I made 1 mistake he’d make me feel thick

My first thought was “why on earth are they using a wet cutter on the carpet”, my second was “that is set out wrong”, thankfully you did advise later in the video that the customer didn’t want a full tile in the centre, which I would advise against.
Friendly advice going forward, that ready mix adhesive is 3x wrong for that application. Ready mix is not suitable for floor, standard. Its only suitable for a maximum size 300x300mm area ceramic wall tile, which is why pro tilers only ever use it for small format kitchen splashbacks or something like that. Thirdly, that adhesive is not suitable in a log burner/fireplace application.
I would recommend giving some powdered adhesive a try in this situation, you’d be able to grout same day if you used rapid, but obviously need to be quick and thats not ideal if you’re teaching someone on the job.
Get yourself a decent stainless notch trowel too… we normally cerate floors with a 12mm notch, then backbutter with the smooth side of the trowel to get a full coverage.
    Thanks for the vid
