  • Original NBC Game of the Week Broadcast with Bob Costas and Sal Bando and includes NBC pre game show Major League Baseball An Inside Look with Byron Day in the second game of the 3 game series from Fenway Park.
Starting pitchers RHP Bo McLaughlin for Oakland and LHP Bob Ojeda for Boston who never gets out of the first inning as the A's pick up 3 runs on RBI single from DH Cliff Johnson and a 2-run double from C Mike Heath knocking Ojeda out (replaced by Bob Stanley) but the Red Sox come right back scoring 4 runs in the 2nd on fielders choices and Oakland errors. turns out to be a blow-out as the Red Sox pick up 3 more runs as Bob Stanley goes strong in relief, gives up 1 run on just 3 hits, striking out 3 and walking 2 with the win (4-1) and McLaughlin with the loss (0-2). Some tempers flare here and there throughout the game with Jim Rice and Bo McLaughlin and Mike Heath and Cliff Johnson with some words with home plate umpire Russ Goetz, the NBC Game of the week also goes back and forth to the Phillies at Braves game from Fulton County Stadium with Joe Garagiola and Tony Kubek
Recorded and Digitalized of a pre-recorded VHS tape, and was recently restored/remasterd from those VHS tapes.

Mike Heath was tough as hell. Didn't care who he took on. Winfield, Rice...... Badass - and a nice man who signed my t-shirt in '78 when I was 8! Wish I still had it.

I actually remember trying to watch this game 43 years ago. I was in Fresno, California - 250 miles from the Oakland market and it was still blacked out. So stupid that all these years later MLB still blacks out live streaming of all Dodger, Giants, A's & Angels games in Fresno.

They didn't black out games in the visiting team's market. That would be senseless, as blackouts were meant to protect attendance for the home team. If you didn't get the game, it's because, at 250 miles away, you were not considered to be in the Oakland market, so you got the main national game. You were probably considered in the Dodgers market, so they figured you'd want the National League game.

Good old days ! I was in the 11th grade at BLA on Ipswich St. that spring. We used to get out early when there was a day game because of the extra traffic 👍

Genius lists all the all time Detroit Tigers power hitters except for the best one ever, Hank Greenberg. Wonder why he left him out. Hmm...
