I have a comment on your observation on battery features. I think the limitation in providing more data or control to battery features is due to the limitations in the BMS( battery management system). New models has better versions of BMS which will allow the software to get more information from battery .In older models the BMS is not that great and wont allow the software to pull out detailed info from battery .
