That's a big lie. The only reason that northern Europe seems less tribal is because they've been arabized and islamized under the caliphate which has a homogenising effect. When smaller groups get conquered they all adopt the same culture and language. The Maghrebi and the Badouins of old are just as tribal as anywhere else in africa. In north Africa's periphery in places like Somalia, Ethiopia, Sudan, Mali, Mauritania etc, there are tons of tribes and clans as well The least tribal countries in sub-saharan Africa are countries where there's a clear ethnic majority like Ghana, Botswana, Senegal etc. Differences in language, religion , wealth and proximity to the sea drive tribalism.
