    Hi Lady Z and Peter..
    At 13:30 real arty effect... 😻 ...
An advantage of having the diesel tanks inboard.. is reduced condensation...
    ... though ...
I would rather you have the vent above the gunnel (BSS regs in the UK) with the pipe going up for at least 6" (near some warmth, not hot) to stop water getting into the tanks..
Many Moons ago I saw a home made trap .. a glass bottle with two pipes into the top.. the pipe ends were separated half way down and there was a drop of diesel in the bottom.. water sinks below the diesel, can't evaporate and you can see the water...
Get some 10 litre plastic drinking water carriers.. that's what I use.. the lowest it's got here is -25 ... It's about to get cold -7 apparently...
I have a wood burning stove.. I also have an Ellis LPG gravity boiler, so doesn't need electricity.. bit expensive to run..
The diesel heater you said about uses about a 1/3 litre an hour (in not so mild weather) and red diesel costs £1 a litre (£1.54p for road diesel) .. that's £8 a day.. plus electricity 7? amps on start 2? amps running...
A 19kg LPG lasts about 9 days and costs £35 (to anyone in the UK that's Flogas, Calor is more expensive and there are other companies, I'm not connected to any of them.. do shop around) and a 19kg is a few quid more than a 11kg or 13kg depending on brand.. definitely worth making 19kg gas lockers.. which must be metal including vents and pipes etc (BSS regs)..
    So the running costs..
seem better for gas at the moment...
When I have the money I would like a blown air diesel heater to heat the boat up quick when needed...
Wood burning stoves go out or need cleaning...
Consider a wood burning stove (with a back boiler?) fitted stern of your toilet... or diesel stove...
    ... and ...
On the subject of the Galley .. make it modular .. so it can be moved .. to one of 3 places.. forward cabin port, stern starboard or the wheelhouse... this would give flexibility, rather than makeshift...
.. and there's another job that needs adding to the list - remove coaming under windscreen and fibreglass roof with tabs for coaming...
It's on my list with some t&g deck replacement...
    Hope that gives some thoughts...
    Happy New Year 🌈
    Bella 🐈 and Mark.

    Peter / Lady Z Happy New Year🎉
What an episode, Beer (Wine )of the week, flight of the year, electric’s , woodwork, plumbing and heating, Wellington of the series, where do I begin…. The pastry prep had had me all over the place , symmetrical coding ….nope ?? Lady Z woollen jumper pattern…yep😂.
Ps I had a Webasto diesel heater fitted in my EV in 2014 which helped in the winter months to demist the windscreen and side windows as there’s no residual heat in Electric Vehicles from combustion. A gallon of diesel lasted an age.👍. 2ndly be careful not to go too low on the hot water storage temperature as you could risk bacteria in the tank.

Wood stove was the best thing i ever got talked into.. and now days they have some pretty cool quality ones for cheap.. keep all equipment warm and dry. And wood can be found cheap / free at dock or on anchor. Dock power is very expensive unreliable amps and diesel furnace = 3-4 gal diesel per day = $600 per month and rising

For the sake of getting through winter in the warm I'd seriously consider getting a cheapo Chinese Diesel heater and plumbing it in somewhere temporarily. There are loads of good reviews all over youtube and you can get 12 kW output versions that would heat your boat up in minutes. One thing to be aware of with them is the exhaust noise, this is also an issue with the expensive webasto water heater you are considering.

offthemizzen? peter it's not a sailboat! I was guessing ahead that the word would be "cold". Stay warm! You're familiar with those thin silk underlayers, right? Amazeballs for backpacking and you can sleep in them too. 10% is very nice. We used to get a pitcher of double or triple bock and a pitcher of habanero pilsner and mix them. The bocks are too malty for me and the pilsner cuts that and gives it a little zest. Happy new year! You're not considering a tiny wood stove? Multi-porpoise but fire on a boat... I can understand why that wood be a concern.

Peter ,I’ve fitted quite a few Chinese diesel heaters ,they also have one that heats hot water. Cost around £100uk so a real cheap unit. Compared to costs of an equivalent webasto or eberspacher they are excellent.
Parts are available for them too but units are do cheap we keep a spare unit.
I even have one in my workshop for warmth.
    8kw units available too.
I can’t recommend them enough have a look on eBay.
You could install under the sole and run the hot duct into wheelhouse and throughout the boat
Fit it now and have Barbados onboard MV Geordie.
Best wishes 2022 I’m in Scotland but my brother lives just up the hill from you in Victoria.

Optimistic about 2022, but Soylent Green happened in 2022.

    Happy New Year!
And yes, I am optimistic about this year! It's going to be good for most, I think - or at least an improvement over the last.
Though the word would be "chilly" and was preparing for some jokes about eating peppers in the cold ... but hey, "optimistic" is always a good word!!

I've had very good luck with oil-filled radiators. Once I figure out the thermostat settings they are on all the time. I put a small one in the aft cabin and a small one in the forward cabin. More fine Wooden Boat channels are SailingWood and Sailing Yaba.

Not typical weather in your area this year Peter, I imagine that more than a few of your neighbors are in the same boat as you are. Hoping the weather changes back to normal for you soon. Looking forward to seeing more of your trials and tribulations in the coming year. May 2022 be your best year yet Peter.

Consider using brown or grey outlets and cover plates in finished wood areas. They blend in much better than white.
