Impressive list. To Bring You My Love is a favorite. In fact, the first four PJ Harvey albums would all be great choices. Siouxie And The Banshees' Juju I should give another listen to. And I have Laura Nyro's Eli And The Thirteenth Confession, which is pretty wonderful by itself.
The Who had a great album before Tommy. The Who Sell Out is an amazing piece of pop art and was an almost perfect statement of Pete Townsend's intent for the band at that time. Who's Next is pretty much inevitable as the Who's best album but I'd pick Sell Out over Tommy for the desert island.

Stones "Stickey Fingers" ... bought in 1971 (I was 13), the one with the original zipper, it was my first album I bought, I still have it and it still sounds great ... from there on I`m a huge Stones fan

Great video! Off the top of my head, my 10 albums would have to include either Arthur or Village Green by The Kinks, and I Want To See The Bright Lights Tonight by Richard and Linda Thompson. I'd also include an album that no one knows about - Blue Pine Trees by Unicorn. Dave Gilmour hear them at a wedding and liked the band enough to bring them in and produce the album, and it's been one of my favorites since it got a bit of airplay in Minneapolis in 1974.

Based on your recommendations I've picked up Abandoned Luncheonette and Rubber Soul, as well as Fleetwood Mac's self-titled release which I owned decades ago and had forgotten about. I am enjoying them all immensely. After a lifetime of collecting music (sadly, too many 'greatest hits' ) I find there are so few good albums. Let me recommend to you just one that I think you may appreciate: the Cars' 1979 album Candy-O. It is, in my opinion, their finest album, a very tightly organized arrangement of songs, very much in line with the standard you've expoused here.

The beauty of any such collection is that if you sit down and think ‘what gave me the greatest joy?’ and free yourself from the need to have a Hendrix, Stones, Floyd, Genesis, Davis album you would be really surprised. I thought at first all you were doing was going for ‘the safe bets.. (Beatles, Stones, Who) so was delighted in your later choices of Eva and Loggins and Messina, perhaps not my type of album but it is great to see that they mean something to you and that is what really counts.

I think the rules are ridiculous. If it’s ten albums I couldn’t live without, it should follow precisely this rule. An album you can’t live without is an album which after all the years has something new to give, some mystery to be revealed.As for me the ten albums I couldn’t live without are probably six or seven Beatles, How dare you by 10 cc, Then play on by Fleetwood Mac,one live album by Eric Clapton and/or Catch bull at four by Cat Stevens.

If you DO like that, then listen to the 1976 album " sad wings of Destiny". It has a lot of light and shade, and is not constant heavy metal. Based on what radio played, I wouldn't like them either
Abandoned Luncheonette really is special especially that extended mash up of hard funk and Country, Every Time I Look At You. Everybody should hear that song...I'd never heard anything like it.

Kenny Logins with Jim Messina Sittin' In has always been one of the albums I listen to right away when I get a new piece of stereo gear. I've loved the album since it came out, and the sound on the original vinyl is gorgeous. Jim Messina was a great engineer/producer, and they were also a marvelous live band.
'Sticky Fingers' is my favorite Rolling Stones' album too, and so is 'Court & Spark'. I share the same feel and appreciation for 'Rubber Soul' by The Beatles. The Who is my favorite band and I regard 'Quadrophenia' as their best album. I took note of the artists and albums I don't know. Thanks.
Alex, I thoroughly enjoyed this video. Not necessarily because of your choices but the thought process that you carefully considered. Two things, I hope you have the opportunity to pass your love of music onto young people in your life, maybe lighting that fire for them. Before mentioning my top 10 albums in my collection, I want to say that I can never pick my top favorite Beatles album, but if I definitely had to, it would be "Abbey Road" as well. Why? Because after all the studio experimentation on their previous albums, and an album that sounds like three solo albums into one, they started sounding like a _band_ again. Plus, the drum solo and the alternating guitar solos on "The End" are the perfect swan song for an unrepeatable band. Those two factors make it a very special album in their discography to me. These are the ten albums I couldn't live without (in no particular order). As you will see, I'm a rocker at heart: - Kiss' "Alive!" - AC/DC's "Back In Black" - Rush's "Moving Pictures" - Pink Floyd's "The Dark Side Of The Moon" - Thin Lizzy's "Live And Dangerous" - Black Sabbath's "Paranoid" - Van Halen's debut album - King Crimson's "Discipline" - Supertramp's "Crime Of The Century" - Budgie's "Never Turn Your Back On A Friend"

For me, a ''top 10 can't live without'' would have to be more diverse in music styles and time periods - else it could get a bit monotonous after a while. True, greatest hits should not count. But live stuff shouldn't count either. Many groups just end up playing mainly their greatest hits live, anyway, so big whoop. (Of course the Eva Cassady circumstance would be a rare exception.) As to best albums don't pick the obvious BSD - Beatles, Stones, Dylan. That opens up the rest of the wonderful world of music: Neil Young, Van Morrison, Jimi Hendrix, The Doors, Carole King, Joni Mitchell, The Who, AC-DC, etc.

Abbey Road is an interesting choice. It's also a Beatles album that I listen to the most, but I feel that as an album the quality of songs is a bit uneven - it is clear that the songs were written by different people and it doesn't necessarily "flow". For example Come Together and Octopuses' Garden are very different - with first one being an iconic tune that still holds up whereas the latter.. not so much.
That is because John wanted a rock and roll album with individual songs while Paul wanted an album that flowed one song into another. Each side reflects that. Thank you for watching
Everybody has their opinions. I am so tired of hearing the same old music by the Beatles, Stones,Floyd, Queen, Dylan etc. music gets tired. There is so much great undiscovered music out there. I am always finding great music i have never heard before.

There's a very good recording by The Danish National Radio Orchestra, with Jesper Jorgenson 5. Any decent compilation from Treasure Island Records 1962-1969 4. 24 of Hank Williams' Greatest Hits ( I think That's what it's called) 3. Duke Ellington Live at Newport 1956 2. Personally I think that Beach Boys Pet Sounds as an album beats Srgt Pepper and rest of Beatles. I never managed to listen to a single Beatles album from start to finish without skipping lame filler songs they had. They had some good tunes but I cannot avoid disliking many of their songs where they sound like 60s boys group kinda One Direction only fifty something years ago.

The Who had a great album before Tommy. The Who Sell Out is an amazing piece of pop art and was an almost perfect statement of Pete Townsend's intent for the band at that time. Who's Next is pretty much inevitable as the Who's best album but I'd pick Sell Out over Tommy for the desert island.

Great video! Off the top of my head, my 10 albums would have to include either Arthur or Village Green by The Kinks, and I Want To See The Bright Lights Tonight by Richard and Linda Thompson. I'd also include an album that no one knows about - Blue Pine Trees by Unicorn. Dave Gilmour hear them at a wedding and liked the band enough to bring them in and produce the album, and it's been one of my favorites since it got a bit of airplay in Minneapolis in 1974.

Based on your recommendations I've picked up Abandoned Luncheonette and Rubber Soul, as well as Fleetwood Mac's self-titled release which I owned decades ago and had forgotten about. I am enjoying them all immensely. After a lifetime of collecting music (sadly, too many 'greatest hits' ) I find there are so few good albums.
Let me recommend to you just one that I think you may appreciate: the Cars' 1979 album Candy-O. It is, in my opinion, their finest album, a very tightly organized arrangement of songs, very much in line with the standard you've expoused here.

The beauty of any such collection is that if you sit down and think ‘what gave me the greatest joy?’ and free yourself from the need to have a Hendrix, Stones, Floyd, Genesis, Davis album you would be really surprised. I thought at first all you were doing was going for ‘the safe bets.. (Beatles, Stones, Who) so was delighted in your later choices of Eva and Loggins and Messina, perhaps not my type of album but it is great to see that they mean something to you and that is what really counts.

I think the rules are ridiculous. If it’s ten albums I couldn’t live without, it should follow precisely this rule. An album you can’t live without is an album which after all the years has something new to give, some mystery to be revealed.As for me the ten albums I couldn’t live without are probably six or seven Beatles, How dare you by 10 cc, Then play on by Fleetwood Mac,one live album by Eric Clapton and/or Catch bull at four by Cat Stevens.

If you DO like that, then listen to the 1976 album " sad wings of Destiny". It has a lot of light and shade, and is not constant heavy metal. Based on what radio played, I wouldn't like them either
Abandoned Luncheonette really is special especially that extended mash up of hard funk and Country, Every Time I Look At You. Everybody should hear that song...I'd never heard anything like it.

Kenny Logins with Jim Messina Sittin' In has always been one of the albums I listen to right away when I get a new piece of stereo gear. I've loved the album since it came out, and the sound on the original vinyl is gorgeous. Jim Messina was a great engineer/producer, and they were also a marvelous live band.

'Sticky Fingers' is my favorite Rolling Stones' album too, and so is 'Court & Spark'. I share the same feel and appreciation for 'Rubber Soul' by The Beatles. The Who is my favorite band and I regard 'Quadrophenia' as their best album. I took note of the artists and albums I don't know. Thanks.

Before mentioning my top 10 albums in my collection, I want to say that I can never pick my top favorite Beatles album, but if I definitely had to, it would be "Abbey Road" as well. Why? Because after all the studio experimentation on their previous albums, and an album that sounds like three solo albums into one, they started sounding like a _band_ again. Plus, the drum solo and the alternating guitar solos on "The End" are the perfect swan song for an unrepeatable band. Those two factors make it a very special album in their discography to me.

True, greatest hits should not count. But live stuff shouldn't count either. Many groups just end up playing mainly their greatest hits live, anyway, so big whoop. (Of course the Eva Cassady circumstance would be a rare exception.) As to best albums don't pick the obvious BSD - Beatles, Stones, Dylan. That opens up the rest of the wonderful world of music: Neil Young, Van Morrison, Jimi Hendrix, The Doors, Carole King, Joni Mitchell, The Who, AC-DC, etc.

PJ ain t for all. Never could get anyone into her. She clears the room. Seems now to get a little more acceptance. Dry has her guitar playing out front.

Starting with THE Beatles, I was certain it would be Revolver. Not even mentioned.
I know it’s crazy. But as a kid and listening to The Beatles you hone in on an aspect which for me was the great harmony vocals with sappy songs. That’s why I always leaned towards Rubber Soul. It is of course your list but a list without Zeppelin, Hendrix, Dylan, Joe Walsh, and Allman Brothers wouldn't work for me. I enjoyed your thoughtful content here. Sub from me.

Abbey Road is an interesting choice. It's also a Beatles album that I listen to the most, but I feel that as an album the quality of songs is a bit uneven - it is clear that the songs were written by different people and it doesn't necessarily "flow". For example Come Together and Octopuses' Garden are very different - with first one being an iconic tune that still holds up whereas the latter.. not so much.
That is because John wanted a rock and roll album with individual songs while Paul wanted an album that flowed one song into another. Each side reflects that. Thank you for watching
Everybody has their opinions. I am so tired of hearing the same old music by the Beatles, Stones,Floyd, Queen, Dylan etc. music gets tired. There is so much great undiscovered music out there. I am always finding great music i have never heard before.
I think that there is more great music today then at any other time. In saying that, a viewer challenged me to make a video of the 10 albums I cannot live without from the last decade. I may be up for that challenge. Thank you for watching

There are a few albums I know I'd pick right off the bat. Transformer (Lou Reed), Rocket to Russia (Ramones), and Velvet Underground & Nico. Does that count since Lou's in it? 😆 Some others I'd probably go with are Core (Stone Temple Pilots), Exile on Main Street (Stones), Doolittle (Pixies), and We Got it From Here ... Thanks 4 Your Service (A Tribe Called Quest). Oh and I know it's extreme but I reeaally like hearing Exmilitary (Death Grips) but then I would chill myself back out with Plume (Loscil) 😆

Personally I think that Beach Boys Pet Sounds as an album beats Srgt Pepper and rest of Beatles. I never managed to listen to a single Beatles album from start to finish without skipping lame filler songs they had. They had some good tunes but I cannot avoid disliking many of their songs where they sound like 60s boys group kinda One Direction only fifty something years ago.
The Beach Boys album Pet Sounds did come up several times from other viewers as their favorite 60s album. I don’t dismiss other people’s musical preference. That’s what makes horse racing. Thank you for your comments and thank you for watching
