- The adventurers have found an upright door in the middle of a dark dungeon room. They may walk around it, through it, or go over it and nothing happens. Further exploration might be needed as they need to find some type of contraption to activate the door of shadows! #pathfinder

This is fantastic. Thanks! I've got an outdoor scenario that I'm working with, but I love the image of them getting to the place where they need to go high up in the mountains and seeing a single door. And the small encounter to get the "shadowmaker" is a cool little addition as well.
Fantastic! I'm glad you liked the puzzle Samantha. The Door of Shadows could definitely be taken outdoors to fit your game with no issues at all. I guess if I weren't a 59-year-old one-legged Grognard in a wheelchair this this would be something worth something. Unfortunately not so much. I know this is an old post, but then again so am I. On the other hand I do appreciate the effort. I've recently had the wherewithal to be interested in getting back in the game. Good to see there are still people trying to post. You could have multiple shadow doors eminate from the same door. Cast the shadow on wall A and you go to dungeon 1; cast the shadow on wall B takes you to dungeon 2, and so on. Maybe a device found in dungeon 1 can somehow activate multiple shadow doors at once, leading to extra special cash and prizes.
I like your style! This sounds totally like something I would do. Why use it once when it can be the key to several different areas. Thanx for the groovy ideas and taking time to comment! :)

Love this design! I might make it one more step by not allowing the players to touch the shadow door (it’s just a shadow), however if a player also casts their shadow on the wall it can open the door and then the puzzle is solved.

That's a really fun simple puzzle. New to your channel and really enjoying it. Especially your later video with the Eyes obelisk. Going to use some of these in my upcoming mini Campaign. Dwarf Fortress of the Fey wild. In which a party of Evil PCs need to retrieve a Dwarven artifact from deep in the Dwarf fortress that, unsurprisingly was taken over my the Fey.

Maybe no stairs to get that contraption up and down ;) However the shadow door once revealed is awesome. Could even be done with a simple bullseye lantern. This is cool.

I like secret passages and doors that act weird ^^;;
How about shadows in the room with the lamp? They'd be a better thematic fit and would explain how the trap resets.

Don't be my friend, I'm always here! Shoot me a message anytime. :) Besides... I still have not released the puzzle idea (maybe two) that are on standby waiting for our 1/2 shot adventure. :)
i am only a minute twenty in, but i have an proposition. If you describe the door interestingly (symbols carved in it, a faint glow, and so on) and the players try to destroy it, Let them.
Some sparks fly out, showing it was obviously magical, hurting them, and the door rips itself apart in some sort of stabilizing magic failure cascade. Then pull up your backup plan dungeon, have the dungeon be okay enough that noone gets frustrated, but uninteresting enough that the players get the feeling that they destroyed the interesting part. Whatever was planned for the other side can be effortlessly repurposed in some other way, but let the players think they missed out. Maybe throw in 2 more of these things that when explored grant them a macguffin and in the end lead them to a place where they need all 3 of the macguffins. Now your players will have to get creative in trying to use their existing entrances to the shadowrealm (^^) to try to figure out how to get to the place where the third portal would have lead (dont be too sparse with hints on how to do that, its just an additional riddle, i would be all for piecing together some wallpaintings to learn of a whatnotcrystal that can be used in a specific ritual to establish a door ... and the crystal has been eaten by a levelappropriate midboss).
Nice. I like what you did here. A very creative solution when players decide to destroy rather than solve. This was fun to read and contemplate. Thank you very much for the fantastic comment and discussion! :)
Love the video and this idea. If there are multiple door opportunities, maybe the party has found one door beaten all to hell, as if an earlier party could not solve the puzzle and basically rage-quit.
