1930s French tanks are pretty unique-they have a "Flash Gordon" look to them that I like. Actually, they were better than German tanks of the day-but the French did not employ them (in the way that DeGaulle wanted to). Hence they were not as effective as they should have been.
", they were better than German tanks of the day-but the French did not employ them (in the way that DeGaulle wanted to)" This view of history is absolutly wrong, it denies the facts and the talks of soldiers who fought with those tanks. The tanks were bad, you can't use a tank designed for a task in an other task... a tractor would never win a race against Formula 1, it's not designed to... It's the same for french tanks. De Gaulle was not the light of the Universe. His writings were partials, not technically serious and full of romantism. For more: french actually DID armored divisions: the DLM, and 2 DLM were grouped in a ARMORED CORPS in 1937 ! So the legend "fench tanks were good, only the use were bad... De Gaulle understood but were not listened" is a non sense and a falsification of history.
frenchies had almost all wrong... a tank means almost nothing if it is unable to know what to do.. communication was really bad too.. good armor without radio.. for instance..french lost fairly rapidly and no shame to have facing enemy with superior strategy and tactics.. ( Ussr was saved by it huge area) .. ..but the problem for france was not fighting until the end..especially facing evil.
@@BFVK realy stupid answer from a guy who known nothing about tanks and even less at history, specialy concerning the colonel de Gaulle, but the germans who read he's books (witten before the war between 1932 and 1940) understand very well...the Colonel de Gaulle apply he's idea with success during he's command from the 4° cuirasse division, but was unable to win alone wit the worst command from ww2: first the arrogant and incompetent general Gamelin and second the defeatist and incompetent general Weygand and in finish the traitor, marechal Petain
