In this video, you will learn the basics of Project Parameters in Revit. Project parameters are a great way to add functionality to your different Revit elements. This can be done for scheduling purposes or to simply add data to specific elements. This video covers how to create project parameters, apply them to elements, and schedule them. I end up using a lot of project parameters because of how useful they are. Thanks for watching!

My pleasure!
Thank you so much!!!! This video was super!!!!! Really good!!!! Hello from Italy!!!
I am so glad you found this helpful! And hello from Texas! I hope you are all safely making it through this time over there!
awesome knowledge. very easy explanation.
Thanks!, this has been really helpful for me.
That’s awesome, thanks!
Thank you, great tutorial.
You’re welcome!
What a wonderful explained 👏
Thank you Sir
You're most welcome!!
Your videos are great!
Glad you like them!
I think your trick to select all doors works, but I think an easier and better way is to use the schedule and use the group/sort, and group by the card reader parameter. When you hit apply, all your doors should show on 1 line. You simply uncheck that 1 box and all doors are now in the NO position. I hope that made sense, but you probably knew about this. That Revision column is a good trick for the door schedule, it does get hectic when there a bunch of clouds already, etc. This is why I watch your stuff, because of these production tricks and techniques that you only pick up from working on real CDs.
You are absolutely right when it comes to selecting doors by sorting and editing them all at once! I try and utilize the revisions column in all schedules that will needs lots of attention after issuing for construction like doors, finish schedules, etc.
Awesome clip! Lots of really important information about a subject that has always been a pain in the butt for me. Helps a lot. Question: Are we able to add response options in the parameter settings? (Ex: For Fire Rating on the doors that were discussed you would have typical ratings 1 hr., 2 hr., 3 hr.) Thank you
I do not want to say no this is not possible because my gut says that in some way it is. That said, I believe the work around to do this would be immense as this is not a default option in Revit. The closest thing you can get to is using a family type parameter. This would be used is you had a family as a table and chairs and you can set an instance parameter to be different families of chairs that you could change per instance of the table/chair family. Could this be applied to something like text, maybe but it would be difficult. I think the closest you could get would be to use family types for detail items but at the same time while it would display text for you, this would not be text you could show within that wall to give you a choice on fire rating. Hope that makes sense. I will get back to you if I come across a good way to do this.
thank you so much
No problem!
Thank you, very nice tutorial, Could you do please a film about creating text notes with project parameters 👍
Thank you, I appreciate it! I will see where I can fit something like that in.
Thank you!!!
Maybe you can explain how to add parameter to follow the progress tracking in site.
Possibly, what are you looking to track on the site?
Very useful! First time I encounter these... I need different tags for the same wall depending on what I want to point out... Maybe not the best use of Revit...
Using shared parameters instead of project parameters, you can creat labels in tags that point to different shared parameters of walls. That’s pretty complicated but it’s not impossible. I may at some point cover shared parameters but they are mostly not necessary. What is an example of the the different tags you need on a wall?
@@ArchitectureVanguard To point the right teams to the right drawings, I have been requested to make a building component journal, that once includes the hole structure of the wall with a specific tag, and later tags only for interior finishes and for exterior finishes with different tags.... So if I am making 1 wall with all the layers I have only 1 tag, if I split it in 3 walls I do not have the tag for the wall with all the layers...With project parameters I can have as many tags I need for the same wall... Now I still have to find a way of making a table, as the wall legend is dumb and can not use tags.
Sorry I am just now getting back to you. If you want one tag for all the components of the wall then you might look to a basic wall tag that has a label. You could then use shared parameters that are read from information you add to that wall type. That would be a lot of work. You could also use project parameters with text for each layer (finish:, sheathing, stud, etc.) You could build a schedule from the wall project parameters and information in those. The schedule could be organized by wall type. Again, I would probably avoid shared parameters if you can, they can just be a pain.
@@ArchitectureVanguard Thanks for the reply! I will stick with the project parameters wall tags and manually match in the legend symbol families that look like the different tags.
You are obviously good at this. Could you please make a small video that is taken in terms of length and kg by assigning parameters about the metering of the railings. (How many days I've been dealing with this, I can't find)
So are you looking to track the weight of the railing along with the length?
yes of course if it is possible for you.
I would say it would be easier to just get a manufacturers weight per unit or per a specific length and use the length of the rail in Revit.
I like your videos and learning a lot. I have a favor to ask: can you make a video about starting project using survey point and project north setup? How to make it right from the beginning? What differences between them both? Thank you for your time Sir
Great suggestion! I will look into doing that!
I’ll be waiting to see it. Thank you Sir 🙂
How to add angle parameter to wall?
You mentioned shared parameters briefly, but said to avoid them? I hope you still make a video on them, they are important, but I do agree it can get complicated and it is more advanced
Yes you are completely right! They are very important, although I say try to avoid them just because they are complicated and are not 100% necessary for all Revit projects. I will look to do a shared parameters video in the near future.
you are awesome, but why is voice is very low in your channel, Thank you for your helpful video
Thank you, I have tried to make a lot of audio improvements over time. I will keep an eye out for this.
Hi bro how r u awesome videos...what is global parameter can u plz make a video on this plz....thanku very much take care
I will look to make a video on global parameters soon!
I will look to make a video on global parameters soon!
How to remove the identity data,
For example
Sheet no - xyz . Need to remove the sheet no in Identity data
You can always remove the info on a title block and have a blank sheet number. You can even remove that info from a title block.
i want to creat element id, task id and item schedule number shared parameter but i did not find any vedio regarding that
I’ll have to make a video dedicated to shared parameters. Looks for that soon.
how can create element id shared parameter and how can show in project i have tried but not shown
You will have to make a project parameter referencing the shared parameter for the shared parameter to show up in your project.
why the project parameter does not appear whene i select an element ??? someone hlp me please
It could be that is is not assigned to the correct category.
Sir do i get shared parameters video
I know, it’s still on my list of things to do!
👍 but mute 🤐 the background music. Verry irritating. But however, great tutorial. ✅
Sorry about that, I have since removed music! Glad it was helpful at least!
Great video. Is it possible to use project parameter to hide/ show a part of a model? For instance, there is door family which includes a card reader in the model. Now can you hide the card reader in the model for some doors and show it in the rest of the doors using this project parameter?
Yes that is exactly why you might want to use a Yes/No parameter. If you have a card reader loaded into the door family, you can use the Yes/No parameter that can be applied to the visibility of the card reader family.
Wouldn't you like to get the metrics of each by assigning parameters to the railings?
You certainly could do that for railings. You would have to get the parameter to report the panel sizes if that's what you want.
@@ArchitectureVanguard I wonder if it is possible to publish a video showing the metering of the pillars, fittings, horizontal pipes belonging to the railings (a small video is very important for us, I cannot get the footage)
Are you looking for the locations of posts on a railing?
Hi, I have shared parameters in project but that parameters are not available in project parameters dialog box. Please help me. What can I do ?
In the project parameters when creating a new parameter, choose shared and find the file you want to use to pull the shared parameters from. After that, the project parameters will be filled out by the shared parameter values. I need to do a shared parameters video, so I apologize if that does not make sense.
@@ArchitectureVanguard actually that dialog box, where I have to choose shared parameter, shared parameter is not available there. How can I choose ?
Hmm when you try to make a new project parameter? That’s weird. Are you in a project or family?
@@ArchitectureVanguardI got my answer. I just need to add parameter and then to select shared parameter under that dialog box and I got the parameter there. But thankyou for your efforts.
Ahh that’s great, no problem!
Pity there is no option on youtube video's to set off the background music.. It makes it 10 times harder for me to listen to the words.
Agreed haha
fix the audio
I will do what I can, I am sorry.
