    Vocalist since 2017 here, I would recommend looking into learning projection. Its a way of using the diaphragm to force a higher volume of air through the vocals to make them sound more loud and full. Alex Terrible is doing the same basic sounds you learned in this video but he's a master at projecting his scream to get that insane low growl. There is also a DVD by Melissa Cross called The Zen of Screaming all about breathing techniques, projection, and creating the sounds themselves, she was the vocal coach for Randy Blythe from LoG. What you managed to do took me 3 years to learn and is ultimately insanely impressive and if you keep practicing you'll have a sick ass scream!

    The technique you're discovering literally on your own reminds me of the "tunnel throat" technique which is typically heard in deathcore. You haven't perfected it but you're on the right track to sounding incredible if you can manage to hone that sound. Use the technique that came the most natural and comfortable to you and double down on it, make it your own.
    Just keep experimenting with sounds and techniques that make sense as a metal vocalist.

      Since I started with fry because it come extremely natural to me and I've been doing them for 3 years you need to find where your voice starts to break keep that note move it up from vocal folds to the false chords add distortion then close the false chords and let them vibrate only when air moves them up and down so they make the classic click fry distortion and then maintain that you don't need to push much with fry it's ny default quite scream you can start by wishpers I hope that helps even a bit

    • @jackbarton7689

      I started with whisper screaming in the shower and after doing that a while with something resembling distortion (whispering Dickie Allen noises) it stopped sounding like much of a whisper. I think I started tightening some part of my throat and it made a sound without any pain. The next time I watched a tutorial, I realised what I was doing was just a weak fry scream and then it got better with practice. I'm not 100% sure I'm doing it right but it sounds a lot better than everything else I've tried.

    Just this intro alone gained you a subscriber lmao I've been doing "harsh" metal vocals since 2010, at the beginning I started doing false chord vocals, now I do a mixture of false chord and vocal fry, mainly vocal fry. But I can promise you doing false chords and vocal fry wrong can permanently fuck up your vocal chords and folds. If you ever want some pointers or free lessons let me know. I stopped taking students back in December so I could focus more on recording music, but I'd be more than happy to help.

    I've been doing black metal vocals for id say 15+ years, I also felt like the things new people lacked when learning how to scream is projection and breathing techniques. Getting the actual sound you want should also be second to not destroying your vocal cords. Doing it the wrong way for a few years and getting polyps in your throat is probably not a fun thing. As its been mentioned probably, the Zen of Screaming is definitely a good place to start. Most the youtube tutorials I see teach you shortcuts and have some pretty bad advice. Its a fun hobby though.

    Love this vid. Only recommendation.... Have you considered possibly running your master audio track through a bus compressor to tighten up the range? When you're speaking, your voice is lower. But some clips are WICKED loud. If you throw a compressor/limiter on some of those super loud parts even...and turn them down to match your vocals...the rest will balance more evenly. Then you can bring the overall video volume and loudness up to a even level while still getting that overblown volume effect on certain clips. Food for thought. Keep em coming.

    • @λαμπροςΣακκος
      @λαμπροςΣακκος 2 года назад +1

      Yeah bro depends a lot on the sound you start with I was trying to make false chords and I was doing frys the reason some people don't get them is because you first need to find where your voice breaks and then take it move the sound from your actual vocals to the false chords then add distortion and close them false chords that's why frys last longer overall it's more complicated

    Here's a few tips I've learned over the years that might help you and others learn how to scream. Don't force it. That's how you end up shredding your vocal folds. Also, keep yourself hydrated. Stuff like soda, food that's too spicy, alcohol, dairy (especially milk) and having a dry throat should all be avoided. Also, avoid nicotine. Cigarettes and vaping build up fleam in your throat and can cause pain. It took me a few years to be able to scream without fatigue or hurting myself. Also, keep your jaw relaxed and most importantly, don't force it.

    I never imagined laughing so much while just trying to be informed and listening to another persons scream vocals😂 amazing video. But no fr if you wanna learn how to scream powerfully, long lasting and reach different pitches just pick up some hard alcohol and cigarettes or a vape at your local corner store and form a habit lol. I’m a bit of a natural singer and screamer (not born for it but good enough at it) but I also picked up a smoking habit when I was in HS still and then I graduated an drank more alcohol and I could do it a lot better afterwards (the correct way)before hand it was just wimpy and dry sounding. but now I can ring your ear drums if you really wanted me to. The best way to learn is to make hella different noises and practice breathing, Fck around with your throat, chest and stomach muscles till it feels painless and simple to do..BUT..DO IT IN THE CAR, W the windows all the way up. It creates a good sound environment. Always make sure when you listen to yourself that your checking to see if your belly button is going inward towards your spine. If that ain’t happening for you when you scream then you ain’t using enough voice or possibly air OR both, through your throat passage. Hope that helps lol. It’s not hard. Find your vocal pressure and keep an eye on breathing from the stomach. You’ll get the sound you want eventually with practice. If your throat goes horse, not good…light headed..not good. Your VOICE probably WILL have wear and tear for awhile but after some practice and rest balance the tingly, dryness at the vocal chords (I repeat, the VOCAL CHORDS not the throat/Adam’s apple area) deep in your throat goes away. Again
    “pain in the throat or Adam’s apple”
    is NOT good if you want to scream more in the future lol

Just push, you'll feel it a bit in the back of you're throat and make sure you try using a small amount of air as you exhale . That's how I learned

    #1 thing that held me back was trying to make noises YTs said to and not screaming along to songs to start....Plus everyone saying that you shouldnt feel anything in your throat or anything resembling pain or tightness...theres no way to get around the roughness after and a bit of tightness during it. After 13 years and a lesson with Melissa Cross(Zen of Screaming) herself in person in 2015...ive still only lost my voice a bit once after 2+ hours of going hard, and have never made my throat bleed or actually hurt long term at all like many have! Fry is hard too, im still having trouble getting the metalcore style ones and more forced air based frys
