Absolutely torn between these two rifles, based in the UK so we are limited powerwise, but I've been yearning for the 97K for a while. I'm still leaning towards the 97 for range work but the weight puts me off. We shall see! Great review!
I recently bought the 97 KT in .22, with the black polymer stock. As a new shooter, it really flatters my ability. It is far more accurate, than I could ever be. I have only been shooting a week and already getting good grouping on the small match targets at 30 yards. I am definitely not a marksman, but this rifle makes me feel as though I am. Thank you that was a great review. 😊
Glad you're appreciating the quality of these air rifles! The polymer stock is definitely a good option with the way prices have been hiking these days
Great review fella. I have two 95’s in 22 and 177 and both are absolutely amazing rifles and are the gun you can carry around all day due to their lightness, but don’t think the weight means that Weihrauch haven’t cut any corners as the build quality is as you’d expect from Weihrauch. I’ve shot so much small game and pests with both and are very accurate once you get the feel of them. I also have the 97k in blue laminate and yes it’s a tad on the heavier side but I use my primos gen 3 trigger sticks with the rifle and the two combined makes a great marriage as you always have a sturdy platform to shoot from and this will aid pellet on pellet as this 97 will deliver time and time again. I do however use my 95’s for most hunting due to their lightness and they perform just as well once dialled in and you’ve found the preferred pellet as mine isn’t that pellet fussy but I tend to use webley accupells as they give me the best results.
My wife has the 95 and I have the 97. I don't think that there's any difference between the two in the context of build quality. But when it comes to accuracy, the 97 is a hands down winner over the 95, at least it is when shooting "off the bags". That said however, If I were still a hunter these days, I'd much prefer to cart the 95 around the paddocks, and in the field, under "normal" conditions, it would probably be capable enough of achieving "one minute of rabbit" at about 30-35 metres without too much trouble. That said though, there's just something about picking up the 97 that I just can't put my finger on. It just puts an inexplicable smile on my face that the 95 doesn't. It's just got a "feel" to it that makes it special. I'll never sell it.
You're completely right in my opinion. I've been shooting mostly my 95 lately and when I picked up my 97 I was shocked by how heavy it was. I'd definitely take the 95 on a hunting trip first
Exactly the first two air rifles in my collection I started this year , only in standard beach both . Only 12 ft lbs tho but still awesome . Subconsciously this video may have influenced my decision. Like you said the 97 is more of a bench rest target gun but the 95 is more of a hunter . Cheers for the vid man would love to see some 120 yard target work from yourself
Nice talk 👍 I have to say my old HW77 which is almost the same as the 97 is superbly balanced and I used to shoot hundreds of rounds in a session without getting overly tired. In fact I’d argue the heavy weight works in its favour in that it stabilises the aim.
I have 2 hw97ks one in 22 and the other in 25 these are up there with my pcps I recently bought an hw77k and that is accurate as the hw97k rifles these are excellent rifles worth the money.
Hey man, great video. I too have owned both, I also do long-range center fire, currently running a rem700 with krieger barrel and jewel trigger and gets quarter moa groups. I have to say for pure enjoyment and simplicity my favorite rifle is the hw97. It's just like you say a piece of art.
Sounds like an awesome gun. I recently picked up a project Mauser 98. Someone did a really good job putting on a nice barrel and stock but kind of gave up. It needs some work but it'll be a shooter for sure. It'll be featured on the channel eventually
I own the HW97KT Blackline .22 and just purchased the Beeman R7. Both are fantastic. My HW97 is also custom inside and out. WHat tuning kit are you using in the 97 that you're getting 22 FPE? That seems a little high. Mine is also tuned by me using the high output Vortek kit and I am only getting just under 18FPE
I also have the vortek kit. Preload turned all the way up. That was measured with I think Diablo 18gr pellets but it was a few years ago now. It might have also been with alloy pellets as I have noticed all my guns pick up a lot of power with those
Try out the Hw98, it's a 95action with a shrouded barrel, THE most accurate break barrel I've ever owned.( I also have a 97k in .22 as well, weirauch make quality Springers)tbh I prefer my Hw100kt in .20
When I bought my r9 it was sitting next to a 98 that was more money and it was all stock. I really couldn't pass up on this r9 but I do want a 98 real bad
How does that scope handles the recoil/vibration of the 97? Most of the scopes, on most on the "magnum" airguns would "die" after a couple pf hundred pellets if not mounted on "zero recoil" mounts...
Very good review, I've had many Weihrauch springers over the last 25 years, l think you've got the best 2 there, 95s are just the best break barrel out there, I'm not sure in the stroke difference, swept volume, l think there the same, but mine have been the same power around 15ft/lb in 22, always use FTTs in both, the 97 is a bit more quiet and bit less recoil but not much, also has slight edge on accuracy, the 97s design with the piston in the comp tube gives the gun a great balance, both real good Spring guns.
My 97 is pushing 22 ft lbs last time I put it on a chrony. That is with a vortek kit. Honestly feels smoother than it did stock. I have no idea how much the 95 makes but I'd say around 16 - 19 as it does have some serious punch. No idea what macarri did to the internals
@@brokenbarrels7318 Only Weihrauch l had that was doing 22ft was a few HW80s I've had coz of the more swept volume, but they was never as accurate as the HW97s.
Hey great video thanks.. I also have a HW 97 in 22 . Fully polished internals buttoned piston drilled transfer port to 3.6mm .Macarri HO spring from air gun headquarters. Are you really getting 20flbs that would be 710 fps with the 18 jsb? I am getting about 18 ftlbs
When I put it on the chronograph like two years ago that's what I remember getting. the vortek kit has adjustable spring preload and I have it maxed out. What result did you get with the transfer port?
@@brokenbarrels7318 . Reaming the transfer port did not change the power . Just the feel of the shot . It felt like i was getting piston bounce on the air not getting out before, Now it is a faster shot cycle, Feels crisper. I get about 715 fps on the cheap 40$ china chrony with hades 16 grain. Oh i also have 2 washers in thepiston lol. I have a HW. HO spring also but changed it for Macarri HO . Lot's of people having problems with the vortex kit just like you where. Also vortex lists the kit as 16 lbs .People say that the spring looses tension because it is not as thick so they could use the tube? The Macarri springs have been set so don't loose power. The only guy's i heard getting 20lbs have had the piston rod inside the piston shortened for a longer stroke to compress more air. Thanks again for the videos. You really are good at making them.
@redauwg911 my gun actuality only made about 17 pounds at first but after a few months of break in it made more power. I also have a custom air seals high power seal in there which helps too.
If I had to choose only one out of all Weihrouchs, I'd say it would be hw77k. Basically a hw97k without any unnecessary bells and whistles, but with awesome open sights. The only very slight downside compared to 97k is the cheekpiece of the stock if you use it strictly with a scope, but that is not a critical one.
I'd own more of them if I could. I had to let the 95 go and its a fine air rifle. Currently have a HW77K .22, HW80 .177, and HW97K .22. Unfortunately, I have to give up two very soon. Which would you keep?
I'd have to say the 97. Those are all fantastic guns though and you couldn't make the wrong choice. I'm very sorry to hear you're in a situation like that, I hope they find good homes.
@IREFUSE9 sub 12ftlbs it's great usually slightly better accuracy. Full power no reason imo. You need a heavy pellet to get the long range shots this is capable of.
very well made and couldnt agree more. have over the years had nearly all the hw springers, a tx and some dianas and older webleys. if you can do a classic hw97 vs tx200 hc or reg.. tear down of tx is easy and internals better as you know ...feel of hw97 is however better imo. last hw97 in 0.177 broke spring after less than 1000 shots...the only one i have left now is a hw 35 and the hw45 pistol ...getting old.
Spring breaking is just tough luck rarely happens i know hw97s that have gone upto 4000+ rounds without any problem mine has reached 2500+ with no issue
Hi there just come across your comparison between the hw95 and hw97 I own both these models and a tx200hc my 95 is modified with a custom stock a shorter hw80k barrel glided piston and custom spring and guides with a full ceracote on the metal work the 97 is also modified with glided piston and comp tube stage 1 v mach internals and the special edition hw77 green forest laminate stock both these guns are fantastic to shoot I would say the 97 has the edge slightly over the 95 because of the fixed barrel but the 95 is a tac driver at 30m now the tx200 the tx is the easiest to service just one bolt to remove the internals these come with the glided piston ( delrin bearings ) as standard and out the box I think shoot nicer than a stock 97 or 95 has nearly all weihrauchs twang out the box so a bit of twerking is required to get them as sweet as a standard tx just my thoughts. I'm over in the uk so have 12 ft lb limit all 3 guns are running between 11.7 and 11.8 all 3 are 177 great review looking forward to the next one. ALB phill
I had both models but no longer own the HW97. It was far too heavy & the accuracy didn’t impress me as much as my previous gun-a Walter LGU .177 which was a real tack driver. I love my HW95 & will never sell it because it’s accurate, lightweight & fun to shoot. No offence intended but I’m dubious about your 125 yard accuracy claim with the HW97. With a PCP yes maybe, with a springer, no way.
The hw 95 is slightly less powerful. The .22 is rated around 700 fps while the .22. Hw97 is rayed at 755fps. You can have some slight variances. I own two 95’s and two 97’s. both my 97s are shooting at least 50 fps more from the factory.
You’re probably thinking of the 98 and the 95 they’re essentially the same thing just with different barrels and stocks. The HW 77 and 97 share the same power plant.
