The D6S replaced the RME and I'm perfectly content. Best value balanced output DAC by a mile.

Is it just me or does the 'hand ballet' look like there's going to be a magic trick sometime? 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Subscribed. If you think this dac sounds good, paired it with SMSL PO100 PRO using the optical output to connect to d6s and connect PO100 to computer via USB ( use short cable, about 6 inches ). This combo will rival DACs costing seven hundred dollars. The reason is, PO100 PRO ( about 60 bucks ), reclocks, cleans and convert the electrical signal to Optical, thus eliminating electrical noise from computer. It will knock your sox off.

I bought this DAC, it’s seriously quite good, but I found it to be extremely sensitive to the source equipment, when connecting via USB input to an average laptop it was unlistenable but with Optical input with a network streamer it’s fantastic, I wonder if Schiit’s Unison technology is any better with the same quality source?

I just bought a SMSL SU1, it's a cheap DAC, it sounds ok, can't say I'm blown away. I'm curious whether you still think the cyan2 is your no.1 DAC ? between all my DACS I seem to prefer the sound of my Hiby FC6 R2R dongle DAC

It depends on your use case. I like the Cyan 2 using I2S input from a streamer. If using USB then other DAC's are just as good. If using a dongle dac then just stick with that if only using IEM's or headphones. If the dongle has line output such as Cayin RU7 then you can use as a USB dac in your system. Again it all depends on your use case.

I know those are 2 different beasts but since you reviewed the Fiio K11 recently, how would you compare the 2?
    Especially for DSD.
I currently use the SMSL SU-1 with my desktop computer. I really like the sound and the soundstage (nearly night and day with my topping E30 I used before). The only issue I have with it is the random "dropouts". Which I think the culprit is the USB as it is power and data at the same time. (yes I have changed the settings in the XMOS drivers but it still happens but way less). I also changed settings in my motherboard bios ("increased voltage for DAC" literally that how they call it) which helps even more but still, it's annoying.
The dU6-s has a separate power supply so I believe it could solve that problem.
I liked your Fiio review and yes, price wise it's a little cheaper but which would sound better?
    Thank you.

Not sure about your dropout issue as my Mac does not have that issue. Tough choice between the two. D-6s is a better dac but the Fiio is an all in one solution.

I have the SU-1 connected to computer via USB and I have no problems of any kind. I run it 7 days straight 24/7 as I usually do with new equipment and no issues. I have paired this device with ASUS motherbords and also GIGABYTE motherboards. You either have a motherboard issue or a defective unit.

@@jmbuchela5424 you're right, used in computer environment, there are so many variables. It's plugged 24/7 on usb-c to a gigabyte mainboard but the chipset is not Intel it's AMD so that might have an effect on it.
Latest bios firmware allows for "increase voltage for DAC", does that mean they were aware of the issue?
Anyway, I decided to try it and started with just +0.1V, and guess what I have yet to have any issue since (less than 10 days).
So, so far, it seems to have done the trick.
There's also a setting in the XMOS drivers that you need to change to avoid issues (Options-> Streaming, select Always On)

@@brunohebert1351 Thanks for the tip, I did not know AMD devices could have such an issue, The only reason I stick to Intel is because it allows me to choose low power motherboard/CPU combo since I do not use a cooling fan, just passive cooling. But now with this issue you were experiencing, I don't think I will try AMD. Anyway, the SU-1 is unbeatable for the money, the D6s is slightly better with more body on tonal presentation, but for some reason I prefer the tonal balance of the SU-1. A side note, I was listening music with church bell content, I swear I thought it was the church nearby that was hitting the bells, It really fooled me, they did a great job on the SU-1. I have the SU6s and I am comparing it to D400EX as we speak, wish me luck on finding the difference in less than two weeks.

      @@jmbuchela5424 No problem.
I'm not saying the AMD chipset is the culprit but since it's the difference between your system and mine that certainly makes it a suspect. Also my pc is getting old (6 years now), it might also factor in the issue.
Wow the D400EX is a totally different beast indeed. Good luck and let us know.
I was using the Topping D30 before the SU-1 (with no issues at all except configuring for DSD was a bit of a pain). What stroke me with the SU-1 instantly was the soundstage ... way bigger. That's why I stick to it despite the issues I was having. Plus it was not all the time.
