- Shining Light on Internet-based Crimes Against Children

Every day, exploitation crimes against children are captured as images or videos and shared on the Internet. In addition to the immediate harms, these crimes represent long-lasting, enormous privacy violations of the child victims. Such child exploitation materials (i.e., child pornography) is often posted to unmanaged forums, such as file-sharing networks and anonymous servers. Unfortunately, imagery can remain available on the Internet for many years, extending the privacy violation potentially throughout a victim's whole life. Victims report ongoing psychosis, anxiety, and other disorders decades after the abuse has ended, in part from knowing that the images have been viewed widely. And child pornography is used by perpetrators to groom new victims, who are shown images to normalize the abuse. In this talk, I will review measurements of Internet-based crimes against children from our research and that of others. I will describe how forensic tools can be designed to proactively rescue children, especially those too young to speak and report their abuse, and others silenced by fear. And I will discuss the tension between the intent of privacy enhancing technologies and how they are unfortunately leveraged for this crime.

Everyone I know that uses Tor aren't pedophiles.
As he said to the end of the talk, TOR is not that save and does not provide that much anonymity. Law enforcement catches these people and closes their sites. There have been many successful investigations. Yes, they pop up again and again. It is a continuing fight, it's nothing we as s society can win, no matter if something like TOR exists or not. I'd rather see the scum use something we have a chance to catch them and help the victims, rather than the next step being them hiding behind something better.
Only the NSA and GCHQ have such resources to track tor users. 😂
If you don’t live in the uk or USA you are basically untraceable using tor
Plus you have to be a pretty well known “Criminal Actor” or online threat of which has done many significant bad things to make yourself be on the watch list of the NSA or GCHQ.
Police only catch Onion Browser vendors through mistakes they make, a vendor will advertise without thinking, there will be undercover buyers/sellers, or being undercover in whatever illegal activities. The problem With pedophile sites is that it’s in-fact illegal for even undercover cops themselves to share images, vendor sites or do other certain things in that area to seem legit. Almost every other illegal activity however under-covers have almost full range with the lengths they can go to, to catch criminals as long as it doesn’t harm the innocent or criminals unnecessarily.
Does anyone remember the part of trainspotting where the chav 15yo seduces Ewan Mcgreggor then leverages their sexual involvement and uf he refuses her I think she would cry r a p e? I think many guys dream if this relationship because it is an inverse violation, but enforced by minor. I wonder such cases would be tried?
The way to solve the problem is to punish people charged with pedophiles with castration. It's not as cruel or unusual as pedophilia.
