@@gregoryaustin1437 Michael Nyman had just done the fantastic score for Gattaca. Nyman helped with this one by infusing a bit of peculiarity, which really fits the movie's tone. Nyman did 2 of the best movie scores of the 1990s IMO. This and Gattaca are fantastic.
I only just noticed this, but at 3:49 Colqhoun wraps Hart's body in his jacket while he's bleeding out; a very subtle foreshadowing that Hart will come back later in the film ;)
I freaking love this movie and its soundtrack so much. This is one of those jarring movie moments where you're expecting something bad to happen but not nearly every character introduced up to that point being killed off in one disturbing massacre by the crazy guy bad. Beautifully done and criminally underrated.
This is my favorite scene out of all the others. The way that Calhoon acts plus the realization of what he had done makes it all the scarier. The music also helps as well, it's freaking awesome!
One of my favourite movie scenes of all time, along with the chase scene. So memorably creepy and in some aspects oddly hilarious. I love dark humour like this. Also, the music is pretty phenomenal.
Only part of this scene I don't like is the trope of the smarter, battle tested soldier dying while the incompetent loser lives. The tiny detail of the soldier being shocked by the skeletons but then immediately turning tactical by counting the skeletons to match up to the number of Calhoun's party shows how cool and collected he is under stress.
I thought this movie was so messed up the first time that I saw it. I could see the dark comedy in it, but was probably too young to really appreciate it. Now, I love it. Guy Pierce and Robert Carlyle are sensational together!
@@smoothALOE I was 6 too. I was playing with some toys when My dad out of no where just put this movie on the dvd and we watched it. I just didn’t understand what was really going in the film,
Dont get me wrong, I love this movie, but the first time watching I was really confuse if it was trying to be a dark comedy or just straight horror. Truly a hidden gem.
Boyd was in the thick of combat, his unit was over run - he feigned death - ends up on a horse- pulled cart, with other dead on top of him.. the blood frm the corpses drains down and covers his face getting into his mouth.. he is able to push up and get out frm under the bodies.. its worth it to see..
addiction to meat bro. He been planning this for a while and craves meat. Notice in the camp scene he could barely resist his urge and bite the guy before this. He is somewhere in between animal and human. Humans usually come up with some kind of odd trigger to try and resist urges, or anxiety issues. Spinning pens, tapping foot very fast, etc.
remember, the eating of humans is being likened to an addiction, in this movie anyway. Like a "Delirium Tremor" you see in true alcoholics, when they don't have booze. Seems like it.
Ce qui m'énerve, c'est le temps que les 2 soldats se rendent compte que c'est un piège et le temps qu'ils sortent de la grotte....ils auraient dû sortir bien avant, c'est mal synchronisé.
To make you ask why he was panting and wildly gesticulating. He was going feral and his true nature was being exposed. Sometimes I do that panting shit at my cat when Im playing with him and it REALLY pisses him off, so I can only imagine that it’s threatening in an animalistic sense.
As for the hand thing he was probably sizing them up, planning his attack, and thinking which might be why he waves his hands in such a manner once he starts turning around.
Theres a rather big mistake in the film. When F.W. Colqhoun stabs the Cournel the knife points dull side up in the direction he guts him. I know hes strong but its logic.
I always thought he took it out of Harts holster, but on closer inspection, it does appear he was already in possession of it. Maybe it was in the hole, with the knife?
I saw only first 30 minutes or so of this movie and I didn't like it. Especially the chase scene that comes right after this one. What was the point of that country-like music with comic tone? It does not fit the scene at all. Somehow it reminded me of "Yaketi sax", or better known as "the music that plays on the end of every Benny Hill show". But I saw that this movie is rated with good marks and many people are praising great soundtrack (?!). Maybe I'll give it another chance.
+Toby Royson I think it's trying to show you how the chase is fun for the killer, he doesn't have to worry about getting seriously hurt and he's much stronger and faster than his prey. its sport for him. I love the soundtrack to this film. its different to the usual horror flick.
The soundtrack by Damon Albarn is a thing of legend.
Partnered with Michael Nyman, but yes agreed. One of the few soundtracks I keep coming back to for listening on its own.
3:04 that part; its like it has the sense of fever, dissonant. Its harmonica, like n'eer before. and scary.
It freaks me out..
UncleAnaesthesia tbh i only saw a small part of this movie, but i saw this scene with an extremely unnerving guitar song.

Jesus this movie is brilliant.
Agree. The soundtrack.......my gosh brilliance.
@@johannessmith7341 the musical scores to this film are outstanding
@@PrincessZelda_is_My_Side_ChickI stand corrected, musical scores. I am not an emoji person but imagine one with a smile.

The music build with the actual build up in the film is perfection.
Sometimes I'm not sure if this movie qualifies as an intentional comedy or not... then a scene like this happens.
It's a Black Comedy!
Hoosier, this was not a black comedy.
One of the best soundtracks. I remember "renting" this and thinking it wouldn't be much. Cinematography was awesome, too!
The OST was brilliant.

The atmosphere, soundtrack and acting in this movie are exceptional
this movie is good if you really pay attention if it wasn't for reich, boyd would of never lived without his power
Reich was my favorite
Is it a coincidence that they gave a white man with blonde hair and blue eyes the name “Reich”? If so then it took me a whole month to figure it out.
@@ianalexander7267 I think it's just a common German name. Means "rich"

Such a scary scene!!! This whole movie had me on the edge of my seat.
Good movie on a small dose on acid
“Mr Couqhoun! .....Mr COUQHOUN!!”
While they're walking down to the cave, you can also see one of the actors trip over the cloth material that's used as the "snow."

best movie ever

RUclips is showing the movie free with ads!
Jeremy Davies character in this is the same as his character in Saving Private Ryan, just in that he kinda got his redemption
You see Upham. I see Baldur.
Jeremy Davies character is always the same.
One of my favorites
"westward expansion."
Most terrifying moment in film
Very true, all the film is.
Red Dead Redemption Part 2

This misses the creepy music as they approach the cave.
Prob going to hell for this but I always laugh at Jeffrey jones face when he gets stabbed and hit with the tomahawk 😂

Why does Pearce keep freaking out even after digging up the knife? Like panting and hyperventilating?
I assume it was because he was hungry and was having withdraws.
He's hangry
