There’s a lot to be amazed about here, but one thing that always astounds me is Masaru holding his breath for so long so deep beneath the surface, instead of using an oxygen tank. I’m also glad that he didn’t give up on the eel! I really appreciate that he tries to be respectful, humane, and always expresses gratitude for his catches

As a freediver, he's got it good by being able to live near the sea. His lungs are used to it by now.

@@chokoboru4358 comments like that tend to come from a place of empathy (not wanting to hurt other living creatures because we’re capable of mercy and kindness), and I don’t look down on that core belief. but I think all things considered masaru is still a relatively indie, underpaid fisherman whose income was heavily impacted by covid, working on a remote island-it’s not like he’s a corporate giant. idk what some ppl’s goals are, other than to feel better by shaming the first meat-eater in sight on RUclips as if he’ll drop his entire career and livelihood. there are more productive avenues of humane animal activism than angry youtube comments
I haven't even seen the first half the video yet and I'm so impressed by how much the production value went up from the usual format.
I love both the on-site footage and the footage as Masaru prepared dishes.

@@onnizx not really, Japanese people’s English is Really limited, majority of Japanese people especially those who don’t live in Tokyo and don’t deal with a lot of foreigners don’t learn english or learn it but it’s really complicated for them, he has been using a translator for his subtitles so I assume he uses that too to read comments!
いつも何気なく「調理をするマサルさん」の動画を見ていましたが、この素潜り動画を初めて見て激しく感動してます！
去年の夏に12歳の娘を連れてシュノーケリングをしに行き、ちょっと深いところへ潜って魚を見に行こうと2人で練習しましたが、潜るだけで一苦労💦
あの体験をして改めてこの画像を見ると、息を整えてあの深さを潜り魚を射止め、暴れる巨大なウツボを引っ張りながら上がるって、なんて凄い事してるんだ‼️と、その素潜り技術に感動してます！
私ももっと素潜り練習したくなりました!

Masaru-san is pretty based. Guy can spearfish his own dinner and prepare it. It seems difficult to aim with precision-perfection using a speargun, and much more difficult than a rifle shot from ~50yd. It would be terrible to gravely wound something then have to leave it in the waters.

If everyone became fishermen or farmers, it'd be the exact same as factory farming. Plus there just isn't enough space for that in any country.
@@ricaivory6571 I’m pretty sure it’d actually be worse, any ecosystem would be devastated by having so many of their animals or plants killed for food. Factory farming let’s us preserve nature and keep everyone fed.
@@ethanyen_TMC my point was that we would be doing just as much damage as they think factory farming is doing now. Except, now there is a shit ton more waste on food.

There are popular dive sites in Florida and the Bahamas where the moray eels are treated like pets, but they frightened me. One day, in very shallow water, I was spearfishing in a crevice for spiny lobster. It was dark in there, so I got very close so that my eyes would adjust to the light, and then I could reach in and spear the lobsters. As I swam up to the dinghy I saw a huge moray exiting the crevice from a back way, and I would never have reached in there if I had known it was there. I always imagined being bitten by one wedged in a crevice and holding me under water. What would I do? I imagined that I would cut off its head with my diving knife, but I see now that is an extremely tough job!
