No, that is not correct at all! They peck the wood in order to make the entrance hole suitable to their liking. Fot a blue tit the opening should be around 30 mm in diameter. And as someone pointed out - always place a metal plate around the opening.
Please can someone help really worried about the blue tits in garden have a bird box and the pair have been going in and out of it for days....tonight a neighbours cat has gone near house....one think female kept flying around and notice there is eggs in box both birds have gone and worried if they have left eggs...does anyone know if they leave the eggs for while they will be ok?
so, we discovered a family in ours. The only problem is the kids discovered it. they didn't harm the eggs they were just looking in. we didn't think any birds were using it. can I get info on how to make sure the blue tits come back to there eggs? the children are now well aware of the problem they may off caused
Parents will never abandon the chicks so long as you're careful and minimise stress, there is no harm in taking a quick peek and abandonment is greatly exaggerated
Je les adores je les aimes beaucoup j aime les entendre chanter ils sont tellement adorables et beaux et magnifiques et mignons et longue vie a eux
Fantastic video thanks for sharing ❤
are the birds trying to tell us the holes are to small, why are they pecking the front like that.

I plan to buy and grow chicks next summer
How far apart are your boxes?
The general advice seems to be at least 20 feet apart.
they peck the wood around the hole to test its durability and with the males as a form of display
Very precious piece of info! :) They ate quite a part of the foam insulation on my AC wiring even though the fatball was 2m away... Now I know why😁
It's not the Same as toucan behaviour. Toucans drill Around hollow trees to make the nest bigger to develop more room.
that looks like woodpecker damage. They eat the chicks. Get a metal hole guard.
@@VanderlyndenJengold 28-30 mm for bluetits

Why eat wood???
They're not eating it. They're doing a display
A woodpecker fucked that hole with his beak. What is a fake wood material is that?

Absolutely no touching
You cant "make sure" they'll come back ... If they've decided its unsafe then they'll abandon it and start again somewhere else
These birds would be great in a pie 🥧
god you eat some rubbish!!!!
