Tough AUM is very important thing to consider while selection of funds. But Quant can deploy very well due to their active style of management.

How do you know the dip you selected is the actual dip of that year?
Yes, being a mutual fund investor it is a good strategy to invest during market falls especially in small or mid-caps.

Well diversification is good. But number of fund is very subjective to management capabilities.

Overall nippon is a good fund but in positive bull run mahindra is a better fund.
