- This is my 100th Video!
No one likes a tennis ball hanging in the middle of their garage to help with parking. We needed a retractable tennis ball solution. We have tried a few different things, a cardboard box was the most successful, and recently we purchased a proximity sensor that has a Stop Sign that turns from Green to Yellow, to Red as you approach. This this was garbage. I tried everything to get it set correctly, it never allowed the car to get close enough before turning red, thereby leaving the back pumper of the car in the path of the closing garage door!
My wife likes parking in the garage in the winter. It’s cold out there, it rains a lot, so I have accommodated her. That said, it is a tight fit to get her 2011 Mustang in the garage, we only have a few feet of clearance from the front to the furnace, and the back to the door. So
So, after watching a couple of videos on RUclips, I got the basics, of how I could make a retractable tennis ball parking target in my garage. With some string, a tape measure, a ladder, and of course a tennis ball I set out to solve our parking problem!

I love your personality! I laughed a couple times while watching! Great video! Thank YOUUUUU!
Thank you for that.. I'm really trying to be genuine. But I skill get a little stage fright when the camera comes on..
Just what I was looking for… I hadn’t quite figured details out on my own. Thank you!
You're welcome!!
Clever!!
Happy 100th video! Congratulations.
Thanks!!!
What a unique way to do the classic tennis ball trick!!!
Thanks.. I actually have probably thought of 3 or 4 different ways to do this since..
That was inventive. I'll be using that one for my own garage. I've been following you for a while, and I have enjoyed your projects, tips, and tricks. I am a Ryobi enthusiast, as well, though my collection pales in comparison to yours. If you have the opportunity, I would like to recommend the Ryobi garage door opener with the extension cord, Bluetooth speaker, and fan attachments and the remote number key pad. I love mine. It is very quiet, and I find myself using all of the attachments regularly when working in my garage/woodshop.
Thank you for your great work, and keep those videos coming. I get excited when I see my RUclips notification pop up with your latest videos.
Thanks for that recommendation. I have wanted one of the Ryobi door openers, but they have been discontinued.
Awesome, I liked it.
Thanks!
Thanks for the hears up about the STRKER. I was almost going to buy one.
It was junk.
50 years ago my dad had the ball in our garage. Orange rubber ball. I was thinking how my dad did it today and began to search for the ball garage sensor. Wow if dad were only alive today I could of ask him did he buy it or just make it up from his inventive mind. Thanks for your video.
Great story!!
Nifty!!!
Thanks!
If you doubled the string/cord from the ball back up to the ceiling and fixed it about 4-6"s ahead of the other eye, the ball would only travel half the distance of the garage door like a snatch block pulley. This would stop the cable getting snapped off the ceiling eye by travelling too far and you would not have the hassle of going back over the garage door as in your design. The only thing you need to be wary of is the two cords becoming twisted together if you don't set the two eyes in the joist far enough apart. Just a thought..
Interesting!
Thank you , subscribed ❤
Thank you for your support!
I am gonna make one of these that you can also disconnect it so that you can also have it stay up when the garage is open.
Should be easy enough.
@@DadItYourselfDIY Yeah I am going to add another hook to the wall at the proper distance to pull the ball all the way up to the eye. Then I will add a carabiner clip tot he end of my string that attaches to the garage. When I want to deactivate the ball from coming down I just unclasp it from the garage and attach it to the new eyelet on the wall =D
@NewYears1978 perfect!
I am totally confused by the math, but I'm going to try and work this out in my garage!
The third point is the key, and you can move it back or forward to fine tune.
I agree the STRKER IS GARBAGE! Threw mine out.
It never really worked.
I can’t see where you are measuring for door travel, Are you measuring the top of the door with it open or the bottom, please give more details as I’m struggling to do this
Distance of the top of the door to the wall. It will take some fine tuning.
About 20 years ago I came up with a similar idea. I just got around to making a video of it. It's a similar concept but is definitely different. Check it out and let me know your thoughts. Great video, thanks for sharing!
I'll take a look!!
