      i think a part of it is the symbolism of him being in his head and rationality, and caring ab the documentation- caring about things that are instrumental to the relationship. Seeing her as a means to an end-a wife for his kids. And her intrinsic care for the relationship, her doing matenaince and things that facilitate the emotional wellbeing of the relationship, for the now.

    Caralia is deeply human. When she said "I sometimes don't open up bc I sometimes don't feel like I deserve a hood relationship or apprehensive about it being real". My heart screamed internally bc that's exactly the mental battle I'm struggling through to even get into relationships, and her emotional logic for this is beautiful and valid. I hope yall last forever genuinely, and wish yall the best. Thank you for this amazing video 🕺🏾

    This video was very touching, and I can relate to it a lot! I think my partner and I are very similar in the ways that you described your relationship. What I think is important in a (in this case) romantic relationship and what I think Karam described in some way, is that your partner does not have to be your sole source of happiness, comfort, support, etc. I find that Karam and Coralia are being very healthy in communicating boundaries and acknowledging that you sometimes need to figure out things by yourself, instead of immediately running to your partner to fix something for you.
    When I was stressed out with writing my master's thesis these past few months, my partner and I also took some distance at times when I would just not find myself an enjoyable - or as is mentioned in this video, attractive - person and not a good partner for him. We were fine supporting ourselves and would try to make space for dedicated quality time with each other, even though it was not often. Now that I have finished writing my thesis, we finally have more time to spend together and appreciate that time therefore even more deeply. I also know that sooner or later, something stressful might happen again and we will have to find ways again to make it work. I think these moments are just part of life, because you can't be aligned with each other 100% of the time. We both choose to put in the work and have found our relationship to be a positive addition to our life in this way and I hope Karam and Coralia (and anyone else relating to this) feel the same way! :)

    This is long, but not angry :P I just have some thoughts from this video about how the language we use for ourselves and others can be freeing or limiting, so wanted to share :)
    I would really encourage everyone, you Karam, Coralia, myself, anyone reading this, to really be careful how restrictively we label ourselves. Karam, you say you are a rational thinker, you seem to believe this story, to write this story, and I am sure it is true in many ways. But the implication is that you can't be both emotional and rational at the same time. Culturally there is also an implication that emotional thinking is less than rational, and also that it is feminine because *sexism* exists, surprise! Binaries are dangerous and most often not reflective of reality. Empathy and compassion are powerful and you clearly feel those things strongly too right, Karam? You seem to care so deeply for so many people in your life, emotionally. So you are an emotional thinker too! Yay. I feel like our world would be so much more vibrant and kind if we all embraced every facet of ourselves instead of trying to fit ourselves to labels, even if we find comfort in their familiarity or simplicity.
    Also, to demonstrate further how faulty the ration-emotion binary is: Emotions aren't irrational, even if we don't yet understand them, be they our own or someone else's. They come from somewhere, they have a source, a reason. Cause and effect. Hence, they are logical, whether we can explain it or not with our current understanding of the brain. Science, baby! So cool.
    Per my sexism comment above, I will also point out that rationality and emotionality are concepts we are severely influenced to attribute to men and women respectively even though the reality is much more complex. This is a bias that we are indoctrinated with through the patriarchy, however unwillingly. It appears in this most prevalent way in this video and so too in how you describe your still so beautiful relationship Karam and Coralia. Also, Coralia talks about feeling dismissed emotionally (and pardon me for summarizing bluntly - I understand there is more than 13min to your relationship). Kindly, I would like to point out that dismissing emotions is not rational. It doesn't solve anything, so how could it be? You can say Coralia doesn't have to dim it down, and that's good, but saying that and helping her *feel* welcome are very different. It would be irrational for anyone to repeat a behavior (not dim it down) when they are hurt by the response a number of times.
    Also, sweet-ass conclusion to the video and I wish you both all the best as individuals and together ❤

      This is such a good comment. Thank you for taking the time to write this and for using such beautiful language.
      You’re right. You made a lot of valid points here and I agree with what you’re saying. I am not just a logical thinker and I will be careful not to put myself and others into boxes. I will also keep what you said about sexism close to my thoughts moving forward.
      Thank you for raising this point and for communicating it in such a beautiful manner. You’re great :) 💛

    • @Calebanton

      What you’re saying is true to an extent, but it’s 100% true women tend to get more emotional on average. If you use hormones to transition to a women, you end up feeling a lot more emotional. Intense emotions can cloud judgment, because emotions ultimately are a heuristic that our brains use to come to a quick conclusion. If you see a deadly animal, you don’t need to think about running - you just do. They also help us communicate and connect with other people, because that’s how we evolved, but it’s naive to say that to some extent emotions and rationale aren’t a little bit out at odds with each other. When it comes to determining the truth of a matter that isn’t subjective, they tend to only get in the way. People with strong emotions (like those with BPD, hyper sensitivity, etc) make HORRIBLE decisions in the moment. Being able to understand your emotions helps you make better decisions, because you can account for your temporary bias; however, dismissing someone for having strong emotions is a terrible idea. They’re a part of life, and we need to learn how to process them, understand them, etc., but that doesn’t mean that strong emotions don’t cloud our judgment in the moment. We know not to impulse buy something when we’re extremely happy and feel compelled to, and we know how silly it would be to kill yourself when something horrific happens, even if you want to. Part of good decision making is understanding and compensating for our emotions, because if we blindly followed them, we would be in a pretty bad spot

    I loved this, reminded me of a time I let someone down. but it reached a point where I was invested in my business and the stress you see in her shouldn't become a fight/issue. its hard to stress, and then have this person worry about more stuff that cannot be controlled. all she wants in those moments is reassurance from somewhere, not more ambiguity. My partner thought I was seeing someone else when id be absent in person... still hurts
    let her fly too you held her down without knowing you did... maybe she doesn't even see it yet.

    I guess if this works for Coralia great for her but my heart was hurting for her during this video. I am sad for Coralia that she has a partner who when she is stressed, instead of her boyfriend saying, "I am here to support you" and "I empathize with your emotions" says "I am watching you to see if you're going to be a good mother to my children. I am seeing if you are good for ME." Are you good for her, are you good to her? I know Karam said he is a rational thinker. It was sad to see an empathetic woman in touch with her feelings with a man who thinks of her as a functionalist ingredient that enhances his life, but when it doesn't enhance his life, he no longer wants it. A lover isn't a self-improvement regimen or a business partner. If this was a movie I would have been even harsher in my judgment but am moderating my language to try not to be too hard on Karam, who seems like an honest person who is trying.

    • @liagla

      Just some input from the other side of this relationship here:) I see how you could see this conversation in this light an I appreciate you voicing your worries for my side of the relationship, but remember that you are only seeing 13 minutes of a long conversation and a 1,5 year relationship. What you dont see here is that for the past year I have not been the easiest partner to be with because of my insane working hours and the stress related to it. Karam has been nothing but good and supportive to me through the whole process of building my own company - while communicating where and when he feels like my stress reaches a point where he needs to communicate a boundary to also protect himself and his energy. Creating boundaries of when I need to deal with my own emotional Regulation rather than coming to him in order for him to regulate my emotions for me is a way of assuring that we can continue to support each other, and still remember that we are two individual people with our own limitations. We were good friends before we decided to date and since this relationship dynamic has evolved, it is also in his and my right to think about if the person we are dating will be a good mother or father to our child if we choose to to have one together - When choosing a partner I’m not choosing them blindly. Love, when dating and getting to know someone is not by default unconditional - love grows to become limitless and unconditional if I choose to let it become unconditional. But I will not give that unconditional love to just anyone, and that’s why we are getting to know each other to see if we want to give each other this level of commitment. I think it is important to be your own best friend, even while dating your friend. Being true to ourselves while being open to communicating about each others needs, dreams and limitations allows us to see if we fit into each others lives as friends, partners, and potential mothers of fathers to the children we will have collective responsibility over.

      @@liagla I had the same impression before reading your comment, but you're right it's only 13 minutes of your lives and definitly you've communicated about this many times, in many different ways. You guys seem to know how to communicate well, but as a someone who is also emotional thinker it kinda seemed harsh and scary, I was scared for me but everyone is different and eveyone has their boundries and if you're communicating about it and if you're ready to compromise some parts that's totally okay, because you know you more than anyone else. Wish you happines and joy

      Hmm I guess this is what happens when you share very personal things on the internet. Your opinion here is valid, and I do appreciate your input :) It sparked another conversation with Coralia and I to just check in with each other and see if there is truth to what you're saying. So thank you for that.
      Overall, like Coralia says here, you're only seeing a little tiny sliver of our relationship. I chose to create this video as such to give a little window into, primarily, our communication standards that we hold for one-another. I was making a point with this video, but it seems like you got stuck on the harsh communication. I challenge you to rewatch it and focus on the other things I say here and communicate to Coralia in this video.
      Yes I am looking for what's best for me when it comes to finding the right partner. isn't that why we date? That's also why Coralia is dating me too. My communicating of this point to her doesn't mean that I am dismissive of her emotions and perspectives. Coralia does also communicate her hesitation in the relationship due to my being a very rational thinker. Is this what's best for her? she's finding out.
      With all that being said, I think reading people's opinions of our relationship is something that we'll need to get used to. In the meantime, go easy on us and remember that you're only seeming a little tiny part of our lives :) This is a healthy relationship, we're there for each other, and we keep each other in check.
      Thank you for you comment

    Amazing emotional maturity here in both the video and the comments. At first I felt similarly to some of the commenters but then after grappling a bit, I realized that what is being communicated directly is often what couples are secretly thinking and harboring but not sharing with each other for fear of bursting the bubble of the perfect relationship. That communicating what you really feel is a sign of a deep connection while under communicating is often a sign of insecurity and avoidance. I also agree that while we want our partners to prioritize our feelings, it makes sense that we each have to take care of ourselves and our needs.

    This video really captures the masculine-centered world we live in. Every day, I’m more surprised by how self-centered men can be-even when they use non-binary pronouns. It feels like you’re using an emotionally intelligent partner to explore yourself and understand what you want, almost as if you’re evaluating Coralia to see if she fits your idea of motherhood and being a wife. And that gives me a heartache.

    I can see where a lot of these negative comments are coming from, as I also have now learned to become more of a "feely" person; but everyone is different in how they navigate relationships
    I have faith that with enough communication, and being kind to each other, their relationship will last
    none of us are perfect, we are all learning, and we are all growing
    it's just how life is

    Karam, i ususally love your perspective but this video made my heart hurt a lot. If I was in the conversation with you in the cafe I would leave feeling really lonely and misunderstood by my partner. I emphasize with Coralia who doesnt have a partner, who supports her in her struggles, but uses her (very human and normal) emotions as a way to "measure" how attractive she is and what good a wife she will be?? Seriously Karam? It not only makes it sound like your love is very conditional and that your idealistic ideas of the perfect wife may be a result of your view of women only existing to help and please men within the patriarchal construct of marriage, but also puts *women* back in the position, where they need to be quiet, agreeable, sweet, unable to express emotions, anger, hurt.

    • @Karamintheworld
      @Karamintheworld  Месяц назад +11

      I think you made a very big jump in logic with this comment. My communicating to Coralia that she needs to slow down and deal with her stress and anger doesn't mean that I am looking for a woman who will only exist to help and please me, a man.
      I communicate these things to her because I love her and because I want to help her be the best version that *she wants to become* - as I say exactly in the video. She communicated to me that this is what she wants, and so I am here to help her do so.
      Also please remember that what you're seeing here is a tiny 13 minute conversation. This doesn't represent the relationship as a whole. I would also challenge you to rewatch the video and focus on all the love that is shared here. We are both dating each other because we both want to find out if we're best for one-another. she is dating me because she wants to know if I'm best for her. Is that not reasonable and why we date?

    • @lilymulligan8180
      @lilymulligan8180 Месяц назад +20

      @@Karamintheworldokay, but that isn't what you said. You literally presented these conversations as evaluations of her utility to you. The fact that so many commenters picked up on this miiiiiight just indicate that you didn't do a great job at communicating your viewpoint in this video (ironically).
      Additionally. You're right that this is a tiny sliver of the relationship that we're seeing... But THIS is what you choose to present? If this video is meant to be a highlight reel, yikes. If this video is meant to be authentic and realistic, yikes. If this video is meant to put your partner down, yikes.

      I think "evaluating her utility" is the worst possible framing you can give someone trying to vet their potential life partner.

    Karam, go for Caralia, and stop all this hyper analysis level of the relationship on the question of whether she's for you or not. There are more than feelings, there is something called volition. She's amazing, and you're too for her.

    God, as an "emotional thinker" myself, I would hate to hear my partner say "I'm with you because it makes logical sense." It's such a transactional mindset, like "well you have all the specifications, you check all my boxes on paper, so I'm going to be with you because it's what I should do." Like, oh, okay, so you like the IDEA of me, and what I can do for you, but your feelings towards me don't factor into your decision to be with me? Good to know that you picked me as your partner the same way that you picked your new refrigerator 🙄
    The way you speak down about "emotional thinkers" also really rubs me the wrong way. First, whether you think so or not, all humans use emotions to make decisions. Our culture has trained us to view logic as BETTER than emotion, because we associate emotions with women. The way you speak so negatively about "emotional thinking" has very misogynistic undertones to me.
    Second, are you really a "rational, logical person," or is SHE just more tapped into her emotions and less ashamed of them?
    All in all, BIG YIKES. You are very immature and have a pretty fucked up approach to romantic love. I really hope that this video is not representative of your daily interactions together, because hearing my partner constantly harp on their doubts about me would seriously erode my self-esteem. But who knows, maybe that's your goal.

    • @classypotato9255
      @classypotato9255 29 дней назад +1

      I don't see where he "talked down" to emotional thinkers. Instead I see you talking down to "rational thinkers". It seems like you are insecure about being perceived as irrational, or being perceived negatively because you think of yourself as an emotional thinker, maybe you are projecting this insult onto the video creator? Maybe I just missed it, I truly didn't see where the author "talked down" like you said.
      But in more general terms, I find it really immature on your part how you completely project your idea of a good relationship onto someone elses; these people have been platonic friends for a year and have mutually decided to start dating romantically, both claim to be happy with each other and to love how open they are (including the whole "doubts" part which you took particular exception to), yet for some odd reason you feel entitled to put their entire relationship into question.
      It's okay for someone else's relationships to be different from your ideal. How have you not learned this yet, but are calling others immature?
      Even adding "maybe that's your goal" - almost becoming self aware. It's not what YOU want, and that's ok. It's what they want, and all they are doing is sharing what they have and *are happy with*. They don't want what you want. That's ok too.
      Have a good day.

      Deep what… he was basically the only one talking about his rational shit and was like : « I have doubts because you are stressed, honestly that’s really unattractive to me so please stop that if you don’t want me to leave ». From him, it clearly wasn’t an act of vulnerability at all but rather an assessment of her ability to be « the right partner » for him…

    my partner and I were in a situationship when we were 19/20 because we lived in different countries and met abroad. We stayed friends and continued meaningful friendship over the years. We had been there for eachother through different heardaches and breakups, supported eachothers big moments. One day after 10 years, we finally lived close enough to each other. We immediately started dating for real. It’s been magical and difficult and beautiful. Almost 4 years of relationship and 14 years of friendship ❤️🌸
