I became familiar with the airport by watching Abbott and Costello 'Keep 'Em Flying.' Although I never knew there were still a few buildings from that era still standing. I see from Google maps that the gate area with brick columns is there, a hangar, and and a couple of barracks are still there. I wish I knew this last year when I was visiting Rancho Cucamonga. I see the airport has events in May and September. I'll have to go to one soon.
I used to browse Bill Bailey's junk shop in one of those buildings. There were lots of parts from scrapped WW2 airplanes in there and for sale then. These old planes were stored in adjacent fields and disassembled for scrap after the war. That memorable scene at the conclusion of "The Best Years of Our Lives" was filmed in one of the adjacent farm fields.
Dude that was cool how you came across that pilot and his plane! Thanks for the tour around the abandoned buildings, learn a lot from you. Great stuff👍
Damn near 40 years ago I was lucky enough to be treated to a flight out of there in an old 1948 army three seater, we flew over our homes and the in progress Norco parade. Hey back in the day there was a small prison close by ( not CRC) , I think women or juvenile, are you familiar?
The Abbott and Costello footage featuring the old Cal Aero Academy at Chino Airport in 1941 is fantastic. Great video.
I grew up in Chino, my friend's Dad had a private plane parked at the airport when the only things out there were the prison and the airport.

These barracks should be turned into museums to show how soldiers, marines, airmen, and sailors all lived.
