Settling in a new country, learning new language, choosing a school and then the house 😂, being at the same time proud and anxious about kids’ progress and well being. If you're interested in french classes there's a amazing school in Antibes. It's called Centre International d'Antibes. I learned french there. The teachers are amazing and you'll be fluent before you know it. I was fluent in 4/5 months. Highly recommend

My husband and I are planning on moving to France potentially within the next 12 months so it’s been really helpful to get your thoughts. I lived in France from age 9 until I was 20 and I am a French teacher and with the best will in the world, I feel I need to warn you that you will not just pick french up. It takes a lot of hard work and perseverance but you will get there! Duolingo is definitely a good place to start so well done Ryan! Looking forward to more videos in the future 🥰

Fern you do not have to replace your friends but extend your group of friends to include French girls/women. I have been through a similar thing and even just befriending one or two people who can support you and help you with the language will be very beneficial. As for the language learn a couple of phrases at a time if you are too overwhelmed. You will be surprised at how fast your vocabulary increases as will your confidence. No one will laugh at you for the mistakes. In fact they will appreciate and help you more if you give it a go. Good luck to you and the family. You probably could not have picked a worse time to do this given the Covid situation but it is a great opportunity.
I agree, it's not about replacing your friends but at least to integrate yourself in the country you live in when you are an immigrant no matter where you're coming from and it starts with at least learning a few words of the language. When I lived in England I had seen so many english people being mean and nasty to people who were trying to improve their english by making an effort to speak, etc... But I have to say Ryan seems more interested in the culture and the language though, from what I have seen in all they vlogs. The French will always appreciate the effort the you try to speak the language and then you realise you're actually saying the same thing all the time.
When I finished school I moved to Antibes and that was the best year of my life. I understand 100% falling in love with this region over the weekend. There's nothing like the french riviera in the world. It has been 11 years and I won't get over it

I get exactly were you are coming from. My partner and I went to live in Mallorca in 2011 and stayed for 8 months. Through personel things happening we came back to the UK. We are hoping to go back at some point to live and retire. The kids are grown and we have no fear of moving to a new Country. When we went in 2011, we had that same positive vibe and it becomes your home. I love the strength you had and I understand it as we have that too. Like you we have no bad feelings against the UK but life is out there and you have to sometimes have the faith it will work. We feel it is our future and it will be. Some people say we are brave to take that leap but its an adventure. I love watching your videos and how moving is affecting you. I'm a new subscriber. I came to your channel after Nicki recommended you on her blog. I found your story of moving to France fascinating. I've done the transition from the US to a French-speaking country in Africa, so I'm always interested in others' stories of international moves. I can't imagine relocating and adjusting during Covid. I'm sure that added a lot of stress! As far as language learning, it might be easier once Covid restrictions are over. There are so many different ways to learn a language, you just have to figure out the right one for you.

Currently binge watching all your videos. I can so relate with you on the French language. I’m really struggling, I watch RUclips videos to try and learn but I find it hard to stay focused. It also doesn’t help that I can’t immerse myself in the culture and go out and about and chat with the locals. I feel if we weren’t in the middle of a pandemic it would be easier.
Hi Sam, I’ve been learning Italian 100% through RUclips for 3 years & it really is possible to get good results. I think my top tip is to be picky about which channels you learn from. You’ll be spoilt for choice but try to find one or 2 where the person doing the videos has something about their personality that really makes it fun or just something that makes you excited to keep watching their channel. If it feels like a chore or if they spend too much time talking about grammar dump the channel. Grammar needs to be learnt in bite size chunks but in the beginning don’t worry about it. Wait til you feel like you’re enjoying things first & just focus on making progress learning words or simple phrases. I’ve heard that ‘Français Authentique’ is a good channel for learning French.

Language is a matter of context. Kids are in a school, surrounded by French. Their social life depends on fitting in linguistically. There will be differences depending on personality and other stuff but both should do well, no problem. Ryan is working so that's a good language intro anyway, even if a lot happens in English. It's often most difficult language wise and socially for the partner, particularly as a stay-at-home parent. Where there's a will, there's a way. It'll happen as long as you get involved in stuff going on. The kids' school and your job as a mum is the real opener for you. ;-)

I always wanted a sibling growing up but luckily I lived on a street with kids my age so I have lots of great memories from sleepovers & playing out! 💫 I’ve got nothing bad to say. Don’t put pressure on yourself! Do what feels right for you & most of all don’t compare ❤️
Was it Mougins school that you put the kids in because that is the only English school in the region apart from the British School in Nice run by the Chamber of Commerce.
I think it is great that you put your children in French school - it is the best way to learn and they will adapt. You must be very proud of them for the huge effort it takes to manage the changes. It does seem a bit odd, though, that you have tossed your kids in the deep end and refuse to make the same effort yourself... Surely, you should not be tougher on your kids than you are willing to take? You may have great English friends but you live in France now, so how about making it your mission to have at least one great French friend. :) A commitment to learning conversational French will make your life so much easier - perhaps find an online tutor for a few hours each week to start. I do wish you lots of luck and happiness.

Nice people but the truth is Europe allowed itself to be invaded. Sooner or later it would be unrecognisable. After travelling many times to London, Rome, Paris and seeing things in person I’d rather stay in the US.

I really enjoyed listening to your journey of moving to another country. When young I lived in Germany and a few other countries but now in Western Australia. We came here about what your age is now and we’ve been here ever since. I’ve got grandchildren the age of your children and another a teenager. Currently binge watching all your videos. I can so relate with you on the French language. I’m really struggling, I watch RUclips videos to try and learn but I find it hard to stay focused. It also doesn’t help that I can’t immerse myself in the culture and go out and about and chat with the locals. I feel if we weren’t in the middle of a pandemic it would be easier.
Hi Sam, I’ve been learning Italian 100% through RUclips for 3 years & it really is possible to get good results. I think my top tip is to be picky about which channels you learn from. You’ll be spoilt for choice but try to find one or 2 where the person doing the videos has something about their personality that really makes it fun or just something that makes you excited to keep watching their channel. If it feels like a chore or if they spend too much time talking about grammar dump the channel. Grammar needs to be learnt in bite size chunks but in the beginning don’t worry about it. Wait til you feel like you’re enjoying things first & just focus on making progress learning words or simple phrases. I’ve heard that ‘Français Authentique’ is a good channel for learning French.

Language is a matter of context. Kids are in a school, surrounded by French. Their social life depends on fitting in linguistically. There will be differences depending on personality and other stuff but both should do well, no problem. Ryan is working so that's a good language intro anyway, even if a lot happens in English. It's often most difficult language wise and socially for the partner, particularly as a stay-at-home parent. Where there's a will, there's a way. It'll happen as long as you get involved in stuff going on. The kids' school and your job as a mum is the real opener for you. ;-)

I always wanted a sibling growing up but luckily I lived on a street with kids my age so I have lots of great memories from sleepovers & playing out! 💫

I think it is great that you put your children in French school - it is the best way to learn and they will adapt. You must be very proud of them for the huge effort it takes to manage the changes. It does seem a bit odd, though, that you have tossed your kids in the deep end and refuse to make the same effort yourself... Surely, you should not be tougher on your kids than you are willing to take? You may have great English friends but you live in France now, so how about making it your mission to have at least one great French friend. :) A commitment to learning conversational French will make your life so much easier - perhaps find an online tutor for a few hours each week to start. I do wish you lots of luck and happiness.
