0:17 Good to know that even though she was tortured for a year, Leliana still never skipped leg day.
Somehow it bothered me terribly that her hair never grew long.
I don't think she was tortured for a whole year. Possibly a few weeks. I figured she managed to evade the Venatori and they only recently captured her. If you listen to the interrogation before walking in, he asks her about the Inqusitor. Also, she's not infected with lyrium. I don't think she's been there long.

@@kirikakirikakirika Good point, but I think she's been there for quite some time. In one of the codex you learn about them doing tests on darkspawn taint resistance, and whether resistance could be transferred from someone. Leliana was apparently the most successful donor of resistant blood and skin. So they must have at least had her for long enough to test how resistant she is, transfuse her blood to other people, and cut off skin to graft on other people.
This is some seriously dark shit! It's almost on the level of what the Japanese did in WW2 to Chinese.
@@kirikakirikakirika if she’s a lyrium ghost there’s a codex entry you can pick up in there that talks about them cutting pieces off her, taking her blood, and giving her red lyrium because she has some type of immunity to it

Leliana is so cool no matter what is happening. Probably one of my favorite video game characters of all time. Playing this game just makes me want to replay Origins.. For like the eighth time.

lol, eight times might be an understatement. And I'm all for replaying Origins and Inquisition, but I'm not sure about Da:2; I just hate the repetitive maps!
I'm not a fan of DA2 myself either, the lack of character creation etc. The feels I had with the first one makes me always go back to it. Hell I've bought that game more than once lol because tragedy has made me lose it. Alastair by far was my favorite character. Besides Leliana of course. Morrigan was a bitch.

From what I remember, you find several codex while looking for Leliana. One of those codexes mentioned that they were basically emptying Wardens on blood doing blood transfusions with normal people to see if they could give the immunity for the blight to others and as you can imagine lots of people died. According to the codexes, only one person persisted in the experimentation and you find Leliana - the others from the inquisition is nowhere to be found who isn´t party members. Now, it´s never mentioned who the wardens they skewed were but since you find Leliana in the state she is in it wouldn´t surprised me if The Hero of Ferelden was one of them along with that she has seen many of her friends being tortured to death..
If my Warden was there, he would went full berserk I those who hurted his beloved songbird.
I'm pretty sure that scene was created for the sole purpose of having everyone who's warden romanced Leliana cry like a little girl.
Hugh Hughes my warden always romanced either Morrigan or Alistair, I never even liked Leilana... But this scene fucked me up real hard

I romanced both Morrigan and Leliana but I chose Morrigan ultimately cuz I liked her sarcastic remarks and she pretty much won the argument with Leliana during the party banter

Were that the case then the elder one would've been defeated. No, sadly I don't think the Hero of Ferelden is alive in that reality.
Terran most likely he didn't have enough time to find a cure for the calling and especially since the mages got enslaved so no Fiona who might have cured him. I'd guess he just went into the deeproads and went down fighting legions of darkspawn
As much as I agree that the Warden will kill every Venatori he/she finds for what they did to Leliana (especially if she was romanced), the Warden will be unable to kill Corypheus, you know, being a Warden and all.
They writers really did a good job on leliana's character here.
"Though darkness closes, I am shielded by flame . . ." If you're going to go, go in the most poetic bad ass manner possible. I found this more heart-pumping than the final fight because at this stage your character is hardly all-powerful. I was saying "Dorian get me the hell out of here!"
I particularly like it because in Origins, she'd complain about clerics being snooty with her for not knowing the Chant of Light by heart, back when she was a lay sister. She knows it now.

Well, Leliana IS a Bard, hehe. But yeah... this scene got to me the first time I saw it. It broke my heart seeing aged Leliana beaten down so bad mentally.
The whole future in the castle scene is terrifying, particularly leliana :/

I usually go with the "recruit Templars" route, but I love the emotions of this part of the story
Girl’s being tortured and still knows how to get to business without missing a beat.
The dedication she has... her alternate timeline self in this way is exactly why I chose her as divine.

Corrine Kempa has done a really spectacular job voicing Leliana, switching seamlessly from posh to mysterious to dark. Simply amazing. She MUST be Leliana forever.
It's interesting that here she is very hostile towards mages, but in the present timeline she's very supportive.
Yup she finally learned that mages possess world ending powers and need to be controlled.

God I love this quest. What gets me is how casually Leliana talks about her willingness to sacrifice herself when you talk to her after you've returned from the awful future. She never saw the horrors of that future of course, but she's not surprised by her own strength, there's an unwavering certainty to her. She was such a badass, and then you talk to her afterwards and she says with no hesitation, "I would do it again." I'm so in love. Favorite video game character of all time.
Thanks for uploading... my game glitched Leliana so she was invisible and none of her lines played. I know they were trying to make the scene where she sacrificed herself really heartbreaking but all I got in that scene was a bow and arrow suddenly becoming sentient and taking out like five guards by itself

You know what would have made this more dramatic, if you romanced Leliana in the first game. Just imagine her taking all those worshipers out one by one until one managed to impale her with a sword, she looked into the eyes of the one who did the blow and to her dismay, what she saw under the helmet, her true love under the control of Corypheus.
The Last it’d be very dramatic and I actually like the melodrama of it but, at the same time, it tips people off as to who helped Corypenis kill the Divine lol
Or hell maybe the one under the mask is allistair sten Morrigan etc as she realised even her closest friend betrayed her
When i first saw this cutscenes i cried. It was hard to watch Leliana getting totrurate . She was my fav character from DAO. I love her voice, her faith and her skills that she used. Seeing her with skin so damage and harden clinging on to her faith while fought to get back the past reality.....it trouble me sooooo much.....god what power cutscenes.

Unfortunately, no matter how badass or strong the Warden is, Corypheus is like his kryptonite. He would have been either controlled or killed.
Him being away actually saved him from Corypheus.

Let's not exagerate though. Corypheus was beaten handily many times. And Corypheus doesn't hold a candle to someone like Solas or Flemeth.
Corypheus had the ability to posess or control Wardens, which is why I said that yhe Warden being away may have saved him.

During my first play I sided with the mages, because.. mages~
But I regreted it when I played this part, it was horrible and vowed to never repeat it because it broke my heart but at the same time it's fuel to my love for angst and end of the world stories (just like the first time I let the moon fall on Majora's Mask and regreted it)
I have never been more conflicted about something on a game as this :'D

This is why i choose to save the mages instead of the templar. I could not abandon her. I felt in love with her during the haven and her personal quest in origin.
And that is why My Warden always goes with leliana.
I love the scene how she fight, how the party fight until the end. The music, the atmosphere was just perfect! It was too short for me, because I wanted to see more.
Leliana is cool, talentated and she is a good person! I still love her. ^_^
This part caused me to only want revenge and ensure that this future would never exist and seeing the sacrifice it only made me respect and fear Leliana even more

My idea is that in this reality if you romanced her in origins. They killed The Warden in front of her.
Makes me wonder just what the Venatori did to her.
Codex entry says they exposed her to the blight. Alexius was trying to find a way to cure his son of the blight. So they were testing it on people, I suppose to try and find a way to cure Felix. The codex entry says Leliana is unusually resistant to the blight, which is why she has a ghoulish appearance without actually turning into a ghoul.
That son of a bitch! Makes me glad I executed him! Even if he didn't do it yet.
I believe they were torturing her to see how resilient she was to the taint. And to find out where the inquisitor went, as the suspicion was they didn't die.
This right here is what made me want Leliana and divine because what she did and went thru to make the future right again.
To everyone saying that the Hero of Ferelden would have stopped Corypheus. You're right... Or are you?. Here's a little something I came up with:
No one could have predicted that our savior would become our destroyer...
After the herald fell on that fateful day, we thought all hope was lost. The Elder One and his demon armies ravaged our lands unchecked and we thought everything doomed. That's when they came... *The* Warden, fabled hero of Ferelden, slayer of the Archdemon, leading a rag-tag army from all corners of the known world. The battle was bloody, and the losses many. But in the end, we prevailed.
When the Warden struck the killing blow upon the Elder one, the world breathed a collective sigh of relief. We had been saved!... Or so we thought, but it was to be our downfall. Things were looking up at first, we started rebuilding and under the hero's guidance everything seemed right. But we were deceived. It began subtly, a leader or dissident assassinated here and there, sabotage, subterfuge, all necessary to preserve what little was left and unite under one banner. No one questioned their actions, and why would they? After all we had just saved the world and everything we did was for a greater good. Besides it's not like we hadn't done similarly questionable things in the name of the Inquisition before, so no one really gave much thought to the repercussion of their actions. Yet as time passed things slowly started to take a turn for the darker. Entire villages put to the torch for refusing to cooperate, armies decimated for failing objectives and severe punishments for even the slightest word of discontent. It must seem obvious in retrospect, I know. But by the time we realized what was truly going on, it was too late.
By the same words he had last uttered as the warden's blade pierced his black heart, the the ancient magister from Tevinter blighted us with his visage once more. "And so it begins" the Warden said one night before the remaining leaders of the world, gathered there for a meeting to asses progress and seek guidance. Right after that, the guards drew their weapons all at once and began slaughtering everyone present. Everything was chaos after that... It turns out that Corypheus had not been, as we all thought, defeated but merely delayed. He had died at the Warden's hand, true, but after that he had managed to make them his new host, first poisoning their thoughts with insidious whispers, then taking their soul by means of the same taint that gave the hero their power and finally gaining full control by twisting their body into an abomination like no other. He had beguiled the entire world under the guise of rebuilding and the greater good and at last his final deception had been revealed.
I'd like to say I stayed and fought, that I tried to save as many as I could. But *I ran* ... In the chaos ensuing the massacre at the throne room, I saw a chance and I ran. Even as everyone screamed and begged for help, I ran without looking back. I'd say that I escaped with my life but the man I was died that night, in that throne room, when I betrayed my vows and left the remaining hope for the world to die. That was a week ago, since then scant is left of what little already remained and it won't last. The Elder One's inexhaustible demon armies rampage freely through our lands and they have torn everything asunder.
As the last souls remaining muster for a futile final assault against the darkness, I write this note to steel my heart and find resolution to face what is to come. I'd like to think that my death in battle will redeem me for my actions in the eyes of the Maker. But after all that's happened, the things I've done, I'd rather my soul be destroyed or cast into the blackest abyss, than to face his judgment or worse, the judgment of those I've failed. Please, oh Maker, I ask not for forgiveness, but I hope beyond all hope that someone prevails and that they find this note. That they know of our folly, my folly and that no other soul is ever capable of what we did to ourselves.
Note found on a charred Templar corpse. Incredibly it seems this is the only thing that survived untouched by the flames.
This was so different for dragon age but in a good way. They’ve never done time travel and emphasized that even when they undo things, the harm they did was still real.
I loved this quest, and the implication that the two companions you bring for it (Bull and Solas for me) hold off an army of demons and Venatori for most of an hour
I'll never put Leliana through this, EVER! Watching that claw pierce her......oh it broke my heart.

I always wonder what happened to Cullen and Joséphine when I play this part of the game. Killed off, I guess. :( I can't imagine our little Josie being tortured. (well, not like I'd imagine more Cullen bein tortured instead but I don't need to imagine anything, I simply have to replay Origins...)
+KhanZelda The codex entries for this quest indicated that they launched three unsuccessful attacks on Redcliffe after the Inquisitor "died" and on the third try they were either all wiped out or captured. Leliana and your companions are the only survivors.

Admittedly I wasn’t a big fan of her in Origins, wasn’t sure what to make of her. But after playing Inquisition I went back and took the time to learn her story and I fell in love. She was so willing to tell stories, jokes, laugh, even if she was struggling with her training as a hard. To see her go from that to someone bitter and shaken, closed off and doubtful…it broke my heart. Amazing character development, but still heartbreaking. I can never harden her, and it’s because of a single line from the Warden’s note in Inquisition if they romanced her: “While her wits and her skill are amazing, Leliana's greatest strength lies in her faith, and to have Justinia die strikes at her very core. I beg you, if she is faltering, help her find her way back into the light.” If I harden her, I’m failing the warden. Destroying the person the warden knew. I just can’t do that.
If only you can use a bow like a quarterstaff in gameplay. A ton of them seem to be bladed after all

So, is Leliana immune to the Blight or something considering that she looks like a Ghoul but isn't acting like one
She's not immune but apparently has a very high resistance to it. I think during this quest you can find a codex entry that says something like that
One codex describes what has happened to her it's that they have used her to keep Alexius's son alive

This scene personally makes me sad and heartbroken. For my inquisitor it makes him enjoy the company of his friends and Leliana even more. Every time he sees them he has flashes of this scene happening and it fills him with rage and determination to make sure they all return to Skyhold in one piece. And since Iron Bull is one companion I always use my Inquisitor always brings him dragon hunting so when one day Bull can’t go fighting anymore or retires from it he has plenty of stories for all to here

I hated that they were wearing the exact same clothes as there past selves.... Its just a minor gripe but it took me completely out of the game when I noticed it
It was a year in a tiny cage. You don't exactly get a fresh change of clothes.

But I hated that this quest portrayed one of the most clever characters Bioware has ever written as someone so dumb that she knowingly and intentionally destroys her one bargaining chip when she's about to get exactly what she wants

It's only been a year since the Inquisitors death, why does Liliana look like a ghoul or some dead body that is decaying and is possessed by a spirit? Is that what she looks like without her makeup on? lol
The Venatori were grafting her skin and transfusing her blood to see how the Taint works, so the puckered look is probably where they peeled her skin off.

No..When you go and see Alexis in the Redcliff castle he uses a time riff and sends you and Dorian into a very dark future and you need to find a way back to the present time. Upon your return to Haven in the present time everybody is back normal. I almost tear up seeing my Warden's sweetie like that.
So ... this is a look at the futur then ?? If so ... Then I will not cry :D

Second : Why is it so unnecessarily dramatic?
yeah it is pretty stupid but in order to enjoy most rpgs you need to suspend disbelief to enjoy them to their full potential i mean in real life everyone would have died but that wouldnt make for a good ending so why not have lilliana beat them to death with a bow, and break some guys neck with her legs despite an entire year of atrophy and torture? i will be the first to say however that they probably could have done better if they spent longer on the game but that goes for anything
What are you two smoking. That scene was EPIC. When the arrow hits her, she'll in no condition to draw her own bow anymore. She goes beast mode on them because she's got NOTHING TO LOSE.
