The construction is similar to the Ankermake machines with cast aluminum parts, that is where the weight comes from. They sent me this machine months ago literally just tossed into a much larger non-retail box. It was smashed to pieces inside of there due to an almost total lack of packing material. (How I got to see its internals.) I personally like the aesthetics (shocker) minus the bulbous shroud. They offered to send me another one and I declined. If they couldn't bother to put some packing material in the box with a press unit, I didn't need to waste my time with a follow up.
Yeah I like the general concept, but I think they need some serious iteration in certain places. I'm actually curious what's gonna happen now that the kickstarter was canceled. And yeah I actually only had the machine for about 5 or 6 days of testing before I shipped it out, so I didn't have enough time to take it apart like I wanted to. I like the beefy frame but I don't like the highly damaged nature and the usb I the back. Those things alone would make be highly skeptical as a consumer. I can't believe they sent it to you with no packaging. That's insane. This video has been ready to post since the beginning of December, but things have been very backed up 😅
What I am wondering is why all the focus is on what the 3D printer manufacturers are doing and the whole aftermarket seems to be kind of forgotten. For example, this morning I read something about a Y-shaped nozzle tip that is supposed to help heat up the filament but also reduce nozzle clogging. The aftermarket is where I think the innovation is happening.
Yeah I think that is true. I think that is true in a lot of other markets as well though. Once the hardware/firmware is workable, it is then adopted by the primary manufacturers
The sd card slot on the screen is likely to update the software on the screen. I didnt hear any mention of the software it is running. Is it klipper or marlin? If you did i must have missed it and if you did not then it would have been nice to get the info on. Not that i want to buy it mind you. Lol
Yeah I didnt mention it because the overall experience was just not good. It is running marlin with a fairly poor user interface. I dont actually know why I didnt show the screen. I figured I would have at least done that D:
Looks like an entry in the "New Race to the Bottom" that I've mentioned elsewhere. I think what they were going for was ripping off Ankermake's general look, but "fancier" with the LEDs. Does it have bed-leveling? I see a physical endstop on there.
Thankfully it does have auto bed leveling. It seemed to perform well, but I also didnt print any full bed sized prints. But yeah I see what you mean. I hadn't considered the AnkerMake design stealing at first. But yeah this was definitely not one I specifically enjoyed using. The LEDs were sweet looking but entirely useless.
UGH, I'm so tired of 3D printer manufactures putting things that the user is going to interact with on a regular basis BEHIND THE MACHINE! When a printer is placed on the table it should remain where it is, it shouldn't have to be turned around to get to something.
@@ThePrintHouse and it’s something that can so easily be done in the design. It’s just a lazy design. Since it’s going to Kickstarter maybe there is time for them to correct these issues.
@@oldsalty3d122 haha well thanks!! also maybe the title changed, it is on a rotation for 24 hours :) I think this might be the last time I get a LOTMAXX product in the studio because of my experience. I think it was worth checking out and is valuable to have some content on the internet for someone looking at getting it
BAH! Another 'Kickstarter' printer! Anyways, since I bought my Qidi X-Max 3 and X-Smart 3 printers, I have been spoiled by them and I am now convinced that the only printers I will ever get in the future will be enclosed. I think that a non-enclosed printer, no matter how well made it may be, is pretty limited to printing PLA, PETG, or TPU. And I have a question about your experience with this Lottmax ET: Since it has wifi, why not just send print files to it over wifi rather than using SD cards or USB sticks? Even an old boomer like me thinks that using SD cards for print files is old fashioned. And BTW, I enjoyed this video and have just subscribed to your channel.
First off, thank you for the subscription and the kind words about the video!!!! I am kind of getting into the same boat as you with enclosed printers. They are just VERY good. Especially with QIDI and their heated chamber. I do think there is a market for open i3 style printers though. They are simply easier to operate on. More access really. It's kind of like an older 80s - 00s car. The engine bay has so much more room to work on stuff than the newer cars. As for the wifi situation. This printer was a really odd printer in that I just didnt have much time with it. I think it was like 2 - 4 days total. I usually use printers for 1 - 2 weeks before I begin making content with them, but this was a rushed testing phase. Also, I had no idea how to make the wifi work. It might not have been wifi capable at the time of my testing. Just all around this printer was very weird to work with
If the accents were more subtle and the toolhead anything but how it looks now, it might not be so bad looking. I wouldn't want the LEDs, either, and all the IO being on the back is pretty lame.
The LEDs can fortunately be turned off so it's not always in party mode, but yeah the overall styling is just kinda weird. If I had to use this printer, I would turn the LEDs off and redesign the tool head, and it would be passable lol
LOL, just started the video. What is a Gen Z 3d printer? Does it run on Tide Pods, need a ton of hand holding and complain how it needs more credit for its prints while actually not printing. Sorry Gen Z... I couldn't help it.
If it is the typical bed slinger printer WITHOUT an enclosure... its far from my "dream printer," its not even on my list. I need fast AF, Big AF, enclosed and cqn handle engineering grade filaments like A boss. Cf, gf, and kevlar infused nylons, PC, pek-cf, pet-cf, pa12-gf and cf... pa6-cf and gf, abs-cf and gf. These bed slingers are just lipstick on a pig at this point. No creativity or ingenuity whatsoever

I thought the filament holder in the back was bad, but the USB in the back takes it to the next level. The USB is needed every single print..........

I think tide pods are a good start. It actually prints edible tide pods
This looks like something you'd buy at the dollar store, over priced and not well built with waaaay too much useless plastic
I wish I thought of that explanation. That is honestly really good lol
@@ThePrintHouse thanks, originally I wanted to ask "when did rca start making 3d printers??"
