I really appreciate when people try to be neutral because it often requires an active effort to examine your own beliefs and that of others but when terrible ideas and ideologies attempt to show their ugly faces in near the legislative body of any nation they need to be called out regardless of neutrality so props to you on that

    • @SylviaRustyFae
      @SylviaRustyFae 5 месяцев назад +10

I can oft find neutrality in spite of ones beliefs is smth that actually can be more offputtin to me.
Even here with Rewboss, i wudntve rly thowt of any of his vids as truly neutral without any consideration for his generally progressive views (which even when he's accused of bein too far right, are still generally progressive views; just maybe not "the most" progressive)
If he was bein neutral on topics like the history of the rise of nazi power in Germany, that wud be extremely offputtin to me and wudve likely meant an unsubscribe.
Bcuz exactly as you pt out, theres a time when neutralness must be removed; else it makes the audience more likely to believe youre their fellow X who stands for the thing that you shudntve been neutral about.
Which results in the audience base becomin more full of extremists who have views you, the creator, openly disagree with; drivin away more likeminded folk, and makin it even more likely that a lack of neutralness from you will result in an implosion of your channel, esp in the comments section of the vid
This is why i particularly love to see creators bring up their major complaints, as relates to "political" stuff, and makin it known to their audiences that there are some clear limits to where theyll be neutral
I do generally prefer more left wing channels bcuz they are more likely to have ppl both in the audience and creatin them who call out actual injustices (see any bigotry, capitalism exploitin, etc) in the world; as opposed to perceived injustices (like thinkin queer ppl are pedos and need to be kept away from public view) based on fearmongerin and misinformation
I know that most wud easily consider John Green a liberal, and thats true, but even he does come at stuff with his best attempts to at least explain the reasonin of the other side from a pt of neutrality
Like when he called out major drug manufacturers for tryin to extend their copyrights and thus maximise their profits by chargin as much as they can for vitally necessary life savin medicine that cud, if not for capitalisms fault, stop 5 million ppl a yr from **dying** to tuberculosis; a curable disease, that we have the technology and the means to cure, but not the wherewithal. Not when megacorps hold the patents and dont feel a public pressure to put ppl over profits for once
I dont truly come at this from a place of neutrality bcuz it enrages me so, but John still at least made a pt to explain how ofc thats what the drug companies are gonna do; they care only about profits and appeasin their shareholders. Its the system that causes the problem to exist, and while we can still blame the company; we shud also aknowledge how the systems need to be changed to prevent this entirely... Bcuz the capitalist companies dont care about anythin but profits
And its even worse here given that the research fundin for the drug, that they now hold a patent on and have for decades, like all such research into meds; was overwhelmingly paid for by public funding, govt aid, our taxes. We the ppl paid for the drug, but they the company get control of the drug bcuz they provided the scientists, who we paid.
In the case of bedaquiline, the drug in question, over 90% of its fundin came from the public.
Theres no way to be truly neutral about the wrongness of a company, which paid a tenth of the fundin into its creation, gettin to hold a patent and then extend it further by usin a secondary patent for smth that was absolutely vital to the drugs use, but which gets to have a longer copyright bcuz of legal shenanigans...
On a medicine which cud save millions of lives a yr in countries which are ravished by this disease that we in our ivory towers in Europe and North America need nvr fear, for we have simply all been vaccinated against such, despite the high cost of such. Capitalism values us more after all.

The scary thing is that Austria seems to be a few years ahead of Germany in those developments. Herbert Kickl, leader of the right-wing FPÖ and ahead by quite a margin in election polling, was asked about that meeting in an interview on television. He said that he can't answer anything about it, because he wasn't there, but he still insisted the Identitäre Bewegung is just an NGO with a right-wing attitude and then openly confirmed that he agrees on stripping away citizenships of migrated citizens. The reporter pointed out that this wouldn't be possible within the human rights decleration (Austria outlaws dual-citizenship with only a very small number of exceptions, meaning those people wouldn't have a citizenship at all) and Kickl just stated that they will find a way to make it legal. And that was the most shocking thing: They're determined to find ways making things legal which are against human rights...

Unfortunately I was observing that trend in Austrian politics for many years already - certainly more than 20 years.
The Austrian president Kurt Waldheim wasn't an accident.
And the FPÖ has been playing a quite strange role among political parties of Austria after WWII.

    • @embreis2257
      @embreis2257 5 месяцев назад

ofc Austria is a few years ahead. Austria did the whole 'continuous forming of _grand coalitions_ ' thing decades earlier than Merkel did in Germany thus forming a new party-political landscape and giving new far-right (much less so far-left) extremist parties an opportunity to rise. there will come a day like in Austria in the early 2000s when the major conservative party builds a government with the new far-right party like the ÖVP did with the FPÖ.
then the foul corruption of their new ministers will rock the country. this all is going to happen as the voters are uneducated and frustrated enough to give their protest vote to criminal chancers, tricksters and demagogues

I am an immigrant, a well educated, highly skilled engineer. I studied here, paid taxes while as a student since I worked as well, and have been working full-time since 2019. I am damn sure, I have positively impacted the German system through my taxes, law abiding life and my output as an engineer in the German tech market. In return Germans or Germany has never been unfair to me in any way and I love the country and want to apply for citizenship ( my home country is not in emergency, or war torn or an unlivable place, in fact it's one of the fastest growing economies and in some aspects ahead of Germany, i.e. digitization). So it hurts to see that things are going south. BUT, on the other hand I also observe what SOME illegal immigrants are doing to the system. These actions are even visible on the streets and in day to day life. I feel annoyed and irritated as well because they have ABSOLUTELY zero respect for the law of the land, the culture of the land and the way of life here.
Does that mean I support the right wing , absolutely not!! To me, the problem lies in the very aspect of humanity that humans are always attracted to the extremes of whatever. Balance is something that we never achieve.

I liked your view on the matter, however, I think we should not look at the issue in a simplistic manner. I understand the examples of food you gave, but it would be very simplistic to reduce the cultural problems in Germany to this. I think there should be real talk between right and left in Germany on the political and social levels to understand the deep rooted fears and issues and not gloss them over with a food illustration.
The reason I am saying this is because people who never voted AfD are voting for them because they have a real problem with how the country is going, especially with the issue of refugees and the cultural problems some cultures have brought to Germany. I mean sure, you're British, but you cannot say your culture is no different from a culture of certain people (not all) coming from Pakistan or some other Muslim country... With that said, I believe that diversity is a good thing when you respect the culture and traditions of the people hosting you and when you respect the rule of law and you are a productive part of society.
BTW, this is coming from a Middle Easterner who lives in Germany. I came to Germany because it is Germany, I don't want it to become like the place I came from.

The argument that this government would "make a mess of nearly everything it touched" is a convenient one.
None of the conflicts that are currently breaking out in public are new. The problems currently being discussed in public, from the financing and subsidization of agriculture to the inadequate staffing and crumbling infrastructure of the German railroads, to the too hesitant legislative changes for framework conditions towards more climate protection and the dependence on fossil fuels revealed in the Ukraine war, to the financial restrictions on action imposed on the state by the so-called Schuldenbremse, all these problems have one thing in common: they were able to become so acute because the previous government put off pressing issues.
Unpleasant conflicts were avoided and instead the impression was created that our collective social and individual actions could simply continue without major changes to our personal habits and without social change. The superimposition of several intensifying crises is now exposing the country's inability to have debated the necessary changes in good time and is therefore making us more vulnerable to simple populist pseudo-solutions. The Ampel may present an unfortunate picture with its conflicts, but at least it is not turning a blind eye every time, as was usual in the previous government. In fact, a lot of government decisions make me incredibly angry every day. But even with all the conflicts between the FDP and the Greens, for example, the course is being set at the working level in many unspectacular projects, as shown by a study by the Bertelsmann Foundation, which writes that the Ampel government has been more successful in delivering their promises at half time, than previous governments had been. To say they "make a mess of nearly everything they touch" is a really convenient excuse not to discuss the role of the media in the public discourse.

Outside Berlin and Köln, I met some people with cultural ideas that clearly excluded immigrants from some cultures. It wasn’t even particular countries but cultures. So what is going to happen with the Turkish communities that have liven in Germany for many years??? How is going to do the work these people do seeing so many Germans see these mobs as “beneath them”. Perhaps this discussion is happening because the German economy is not apparently performing well. But hasn’t’t this same discussion happened recently the last time the German economy “went south”????? I am with patrickhanft here, saying that a lot of the mess we are currently facing is due to too much "Weiter so!" during the Merkel era and even the years before. Which too successfully secured wealth to the country, creating a false feeling of security, way too long.
I think, currently, we are facing the following problem:
Had the current crises hit all within the time of the CDU or the Great coalition of CDU/SPD, and would have exposed all the things that were in the wrong in the country at that time, people also would have protested, but they would have been able to turn either to the left OR to the right in order to do so.
With a moderate leftist government in place that in addition somehow is very bad at selling their work even where they do succeed, and a far left that seems to have dissapointed, the only way people with moderate views can turn now is right. Or at least it is more likely that they will. I daresay that even a strong CDU would not be too good for the country, as more "Weiter so!" would certainly be detrimental. Unfortunately, they do not look too strong right now, and I think that at least some people know that a lot of the current mess was also a result of the previous governments. And there comes the so called "alternative". The whole situation is a veritable mess.

The AfD has moderate and radical factions? I would say it is more accurate to say that it has radical and extremist factions. The radicals may be "moderate" compared to the extremists, but I wouldn’t really call them "moderate" in any other context (and also have been getting less and less influential in the party over the years).
Even the most "moderate" people in the AfD deny climate change, are "sceptical" of vaccines, want to crack down hard on immigration, particularly that of muslims, want massive cuts to the welfare state, and also endorse and defend pretty much everything the extremist wing of the party says and does and publicly deny that there is anything wrong with it.
The most "moderate" AfD members may not have been recorded publicly saying that immigrants should be "shot" sent "to gas chambers" or "beat up back to Africa" (translated original statements from Beatrix von Storch, Christian Lüth and Dieter Görnert, all AfD), but that could be just as much a result of pure dumb luck for them as of them actually having more "moderate" ideology.

This is considering that it is quite common for wings of political parties to be referred to using terminology specific to that party depending on where its range of political positions is perceives to fall on the overall political spectrum, e.g. the Greens are usually divided into "realos" and "fundies"; it wouldn’t be inaccurate to talk of moderates and radicals, but people hardly ever do. Or the Republican party in the US, where it is by now probably most common and appropriate to distinguish between "trumpists" and "anti-trumpists".
Using descriptors like "moderate" and "radical" irrespective of the party can be misleading in cases where either neither, or both, are actual political radicals. While it’s always possible for one group of people to be *more* radical than another (e.g. the extremist wing of the AfD is even more radical than the rest, who are "only" radical), that can easily be conflated with whether one considers either of them radicals or not.

Thank you for this video! I have lived in Germany for many years and find it frustrating that I have never been able to vote when government policies affect me so much. With the option of dual citizenship on the horizon, I’ve finally just applied for citizenship. My worst fear is that in the potentially years long wait, something will change and I won’t be able to get it, or even worse, lose my status completely

Why do you want dual citizenship? Germans with only the german citizenship lose their german one if they get another one outside of the EU. So do you belong to the EU?

By having dual citizenship, it may make it easier for a future government to strip you of your German citizenship, because they can argue that stripping your German citizenship won't result in you becoming stateless. That's why some AfD members are now supporting the idea of dual citizenship.
