Religious music in Salzburg and Vienna carried on in the Venetian polychoral tradition, inspired by the unique architecture and acousticsof St. Mark's cathedral, but t he church music featured in today's programme easily surpasses that o f Venice. The quality of the Austrian court chapels, which employed an impressive numberof musicians, must have been formidable indeed. Biber'sthirty-six voice Missa Alleluia was written for t he Salzburg Cathedral but was also performed at t he far smaller Kremsmünster church, where vocal scores to the work were discovered. Foilowing the Venetian model, Biber split t he thirty-six voices into various groups. But unlike the Venetian polychoral practice, where the instruments simply doublé the vocal parts, here the instruments also have virtuosic solos. Large-scale religious music accounts for t he lion's share of the otherwise little-known Benedikt Anton Aufschnaiter's approximately 300 works. His style is comparable to Biber's: Aufschnaiter combined t he virtuosity of the Baroque with the polyphony of the Renaissance. Carissimi's vocal style and Lassus' intelligent polyphony (he names both as key models) come together in Aufschnaiter's Vesper psalms, which were pubiished in Augsburg in 1709 under the title Memnon Sacer ab Oriente. Music for the gods, bravo, excellent performance, my heart cries in extacy.
Deux mille ans de culture et de civilisation chrétienne. Une merveille.
Benedikt Aufschnaiter est un musicien du début du XVIIIe siècle : 300 ans auraient suffi.
The teenage soprano is amazing. They're all good, but he and the deep, deep bass are outstanding.
Are you referring to the one in the dark uniform? I believe that he is supposed to be an alto, not a soprano. I agree that he is very good.
Beste Kombination der himmlischen Stimmen und der historischen Instrumente. Danke!
Eine großartige Leistung! - Eine Bereicherung für den Zuhörer. - Vielen Dank!

Thank you!
Beautiful
Someone should have told the smallest treble that there only needs to be one conductor!
Who is that annoying kid who is conducting along- so offputting!
