Early 90s has become my favorite time for American cinema. The way everything looks, the camera work and effects are magic, the actors. Basic instinct, speed, 9 months, the fugitive, T2, they all have that same look, and it looks perfect, to me.
And also the way “things” were, clothing, technology, cars, haircuts.

    Black Rain
Black Rain is a 1989 American neo-noir action thriller movie directed by Ridley Scott and starring Michael Douglas, Andy García, Ken Takakura, Kate Capshaw, Yūsaku Matsuda and Tomisaburo Wakayama. The film focuses on two NYPD detectives who arrest a member of the yakuza and must escort him back to Japan. Once there, he escapes, and the two officers find themselves dragged deeper and deeper into the Japanese underworld.

"Why's everyone so aggressive in this?" LA in the early '90s was a pressure-cooker. A lot of things were going wrong at once in a place that had been famously easygoing in the previous generation. There's a whole little subgenre of movies about this time and place.

It's not a character most Hollywood big names would like to play because it's gets you nothing in the movie industry business but kudos to him for having the backbone for doing it anyway. It has a small charge but is surprisingly accurate for not being a "Smart" weapon. "The Game" is a Michel Douglas movie that will bake your brain, with Sean Penn.

Michael Douglas has said in an interview that this was his favorite role he played.
    Such a good film.
I strongly suggest you watch his two 1987 output Fatal Attraction and Wall Street.
Fatal Attraction was the most popular film of 1987 and was nominated for 6 Oscars, including best film and best actress for Glenn Close.
Psycho had a lasting influence on people locking the door of the bathroom and Jaws had a lasting influence on people going into the sea.
Similarily, when Fatal Attraction came out, guys were scared shitless of cheating on their wives.
Wall Street got Michael Douglas the Oscar for best actor.
Also check the 1989 movie by Ridley Scott, Black Rain about two police agents (Douglas and Andy Garcia) who go to Japan to bring back a Yakuza member accused of murder in the US. Such a great film.
And of course, the 1992 film Basic Instinct.

Well, as far as the cop goes, don't discount the fact that the main character's wife was granted a pfa based on supposition only and the incredible stress of not being allowed to see your own daughter without due process as leading to his condition at the time the film starts. Perhaps his daughter being taken away was the last straw and much of this could've been avoided if he could've been allowed to maintain that relationship.

I really enjoy Carrington's reactions. If you're reading this, thanks for the uploads. I feel like a lot of people are just one bad day from snapping. Especially today. Finances can really be that final push the Joker likes to talk about which sends a person over that edge. Personally, I think it's interesting because some people can cross that line and some people can't. Not everyone is capable of killing a person for example. Put them in a war situation. Or maybe defending your own family in a situation. I don't know. Maybe everyone can be pushed if you find their secret personal buttons.
I've heard tale that soldiers during like Vietnam and WW2 will admit that when in combat and ordered to fire that many of them purposefully aim high and try to miss but still try to make it look like they're trying not to because they simply don't/can't or won't go through with the karma of killing someone even if it's an enemy stranger. Keep that in mind the next time you see an action movie and think, "Yeah there's no way Rambo could have gotten through that without getting hit if that were in real life" lmao. Just some food for thought.

I recommend these other movies with Michael Douglas: Basic Instinct(1992), Fatal Attraction(1987), Disclosure(1994). These are thrillers. "Romancing the Stone"(1984) is adventure, comedy. Then there's Traffic(2000), alongside his wife, Catherine Zeta-Jones and Wall Street(1987) - to which they made a sequel in 2010: Money Never Sleeps. Recently found your channel and left a long comment on your Tremors reaction. Just started looking through your reactions and I love most of what you've reacted to so far, sorry I didn't find it sooner. Just subscribed, getting ready to binge some reactions. Saw you did Balls of Fury recently, have you seen Dodgeball with Vince Vaughn and Ben Stiller? It's way better than BoF and I liked BoF, but Dodgeball is freaking hilarious.

I think you might enjoy 'Romancing the Stone' with Micky D., Kathleen Turner & Danny DeVito, a fun little action comedy from '84. I also seem to remember really liking 'The War of the Roses' it's pretty messed up movie, actually also starring K. Turner and Danny DeVito.

This is probably his best role by far. Romancing the stone is sweet movie from the 80s but it's more like a thing of its time. Black Rain is Ridley Scott action movie. War of Roses is dark comedy, Basic Instinct erotic thriller. He was also good in Wall Street but it's more of a side role. Interesting movie like this with him in terms of ideas is Disclosure, with Demi Moore.

    Black Rain (1989)
    Black Rain (1989)
    The Game (1997)
    Fatal Attraction (1987)
    Black Rain (1989)

Great reaction Ryan! He has alot of good movies. One of my favorites, is The American President. Nothing like this though, he is the president, it's more of a romantic comedy, directed by Rob reiner, ( princess bride and A few good men ) , it's worth a watch!

Another fantastic, but severely underrated and way too unpopular movie with Michael Douglas: Traffic. It has such a stellar cast of great actors like Mr D himself, Benicio Del Toro, Catherine Zeta Jones, the guy who plays Eric in That 70's Show, Don Cheadle, Luis Guzman Dennis Quaid, Miguel Ferrer (he played the rising star of OCP in Robocop) etc... Why are there literally no reaction videos to it? I do not undestand.
