  • Everyone has memories of baby's first steps. Here is a collection of footage of our Alien Newborn's first steps and, well, his last. Eavesdropping through the main unit camera, time lapse shots of creature rehearsals, and experiencing the frenzy of puppeteering on set--that's all here and more.

    The Newborn was 100% what a new xenomorph creature should be: scary, grotesque, unknowable, primal. It's one of my favorite monster designs.

      @@jdulast He knows that, he was saying that it's as good as the Predator design and as good as the original "Big Chap" 1979 Xenomorph Alien design from the original film. He knows it's an Alien, but not just an Alien, but a Human/Alien hybrid.

      Red since ‘87 watch 3 Assembly Cut. You will have a greater opinion of the movie. I have found A3 is like fine wine, gets better with age. We all love ALIENS but it also killed the XENOMORPH character (made it a shoot um up) A3 is the true sequel to ALIEN

    The Newborn, Jabba the Hutt, and the Skeksis from the Dark Crystal are my all time favorite puppets. You guys really knocked it out of the park with this creature. It's such a shame that your talents aren't more readily used. I would love to see a new creature feature using only creatures like this, where you guys are the stars of the show.

    I really like the H.R. Giger-aesthetics and the creatures of the alien series (except the Engineers without their space jockey suits. They are boring.). But whoever designed the newborn is a genius. Never ever has a movie monster been that repulsive and piteous to me at the same time. The way they play with light and shadow on its facial features is amazing. This creature totally plucks on my motherly strings and I want to hug it, although I know that it will kill me.

    Great footage, that was awesome to see! Aliens4 was the first Alien movie I ever saw, I was 12 and I loved the Newborn. It's terrifying but I also thought - and still do - it was cute in a way. The inquisitive noises it made and the nose twitch in particular. Adorable. Like a grotesque bunny!
    The way it died was very gruesome but also sad, I always feel bad for it when that scene happens. That is a shitty way to die. It just wanted its momma!

    Whether you liked the movie or not, this is easily among ADI's best work from my view. The new Xeno looked incredible regardless of the style choice, and the air duct sequence was very convincing. Anyone have an idea of what ADI charges for a movie like this or like The Predator/AVP movies? I know it's all depending on budget and how much they need to build and construct etc, but I would love to know what they'd charge to build one or two Predator suits with animatronic faces.

    Such an underused monster in that hilarious film- every aspect of it comes off as a living, breathing being- from the expressions of its face to its bounding walk- the Newborn, like the Queen from Aliens, is a character all in his/her own right.
    I guess I’m one of the few who so badly wanted the thing to live and was traumatised by its horrible death as a kid?

    I still have affection for this black sheep sequel, and I think Joss Wehdon's script was it's problem not the direction -- can't that guy write anything besides "clever meta-toned" stuff? The newborn, despite some ungainly design points, is a scary creature with a Frankenstein feel to it -- but I thought it's death was way too sadistic, it didn't deserve such agony.

    @GordoFreakmanFail-Life 2 года назад +2

    Many people say that the newborn didn´t deserve to die because he had feelings and blah, blah, blah,
    but the alien queen herself also showed affection for this newborn and this instead killed her without any hesitation (that he was an irrational being did not mean that the queen alien didn´t feel maternal affection, in fact, she didn´t refuse to feel affection for him newborn when noticing its different appearance from that of the other xenomorphs, despite the fact that this It is usually a causal reason for rejection among many wild species of nature in the real life).
    Like it or not, the newborn was an abomination no less lethal than a standard xenomorph (unfortunate and by human cause, but an abomination after all), he acted under
    his primitive instinct, he sought to kill everyone who wasn´t Ripley, his only action it was his self-preservation instinct and that's why he looked favorably on Ripley, whom he considered his mother (similar to how the alien queen regarded him as her son), but, you need think that being such a strong creature being just only a baby (so strong as to having killed the alien queen in on a single attack), made him a very potential danger to humanity as it´s a hybrid (much more dangerous than the standard xenomorph), it isn´t known what its scope would be if it achieved full maturity, but it would certainly be a very fearsome being. It´s very delusional to believe that because he had human blood then could perhaps be tamed or tamed, or would have feelings insights that would generate empathy, the very premise of the film makes it clear from the start because the same thought had the doctor who wanted to tame the xenomorphs common and he couldn´t, look how it ended... Furthermore, in the supposed and totally doubtful case that they could have tamed him as everyone illogically wanted, because newborn surely this would be the object of cruel and barbaric investigation, would be treated as a animal (in fact, the same xenomorphs are also initially seen here imprisoned, treated badly and repelled with boiling steam), or else he would be cloned in mass and used as a biological weapon... So yes, in one or another way, the newborn should die right there...
    Another thing that bothered me deeply is to see how Hollywood has contaminated
    hypocritical and fanciful idealisms to people, because death is no longer accepted as a justifiable cause, they say they don´t like the horrendous death of this creature (which to some extent they are right to say is quite grotesque), but they are forget too that in those times the movies were more raw and visceral, visually and conceptually, they had no creative limitations like now and, therefore, they were more sincere, Hollywood in the past didn´t come out with the cloying melodramas and happy rainbows of the perfect world typical of today´s Marvel philosophy and company, before, the movies didn´t underestimate the intelligence of the
    consumer as now, this classic movie for example, exemplified how death is not always sweet and kind as many snowflakes want to show it, at that time it was shown without hesitation what grotesque and harsh that is also the reality of death, in this case, spatial hostility.
    Sorry for my english.

      That's part of what's pitiable about it. It's just been born, and while it is obviously extremely intelligent, it is naive and does not yet have control over itself or its emotions. It has some memories like Ripley 8 does -- in many ways it IS Ripley except in appearance. So there's a despair mixed in with the understanding. Ripley 8 knows it has to die, because of how incredibly, incredibly dangerous it is. They cannot afford to allow it to live and take a gamble on whether it chooses to be benevolent.
      Also, I suspect that Ripley 8 feels that it deserves death as a mercy, in the same way that she killed her other clones. They are abominations, and so is she. She knows this. None of them should exist.

    Fantastic mechanical artistry as always, but I never liked the design of the newborn. It needed to be more alien-like and the eyes made it considerably less intimidating than it should've been.

    • @TimFisheroo
      @TimFisheroo 6 лет назад +2

      Fury of the Beast No, I get the idea behind that but that came at the cost of having the newborn be a terrifying creature which was equally as important but having it be a creature that was so sympathetic to the audience took away from that. I think it leaned too far in that direction when it should’ve been more alien.

    • @TimFisheroo
      @TimFisheroo 6 лет назад +1

      Fury of the Beast That’s fair, and what I imagine the filmmakers were going for. It just didn’t work for me, I would’ve preferred something terrifying over something grotesque.

      @TimFisheroo 6 лет назад +1

      Fury of the Beast More leaning towards the alien side of things I guess. There was a lot of potential for the design and the skeletal look with the eyes wasn’t something that gelled well with the alien aesthetic, I felt.

      @RIDDICK0911 6 лет назад +2

      While I do not like the movie and hate the character... I totally understand why he/she was made to look more sympathetic and human-like. Humans can look cute and nice but at the same time be raging killing machines. The design made it more psychological, and psycho horror is part of what made original ALIEN great.

      I agree, I always felt that the design just didn't make sense. How the hell could this thing even walk? It looks like a deformed old lady trying to get off her ass lol.
      I like the idea of meshing the xenomorph and the human aspects (that was basically the whole concept behind this abomination of a movie), but it felt like they just chose the most poor design.
      If I were to redo the newborn (more like the whole movie), I would have it look more like one of Giger's paintings, the one where there's this hybrid of a xenomorph with a beautiful woman, like Giger's original design for Alien 3 or the Species creature, that weird feel of a sexy monster that reflects Ripley's and the xenomorph's twisted link. Would certainly make me feel more scared and more sad than this pussybelly puppyface thing.

    That Alien hybrid ruined that movie.

      Mmm... the premise was already dumb and tasteless as **** so it was ruined before they began filming.
      But the creature FX were very cool.

    I love your work, but you really screwed up the nose of this creature.

    • @Stickywicket
      @Stickywicket 6 лет назад +8

      How can you screw up a nose of a creature that doesn't exist and is of their own design?

    • @realsupercopter
      @realsupercopter 6 лет назад +1

      Disfigured Stick : Their design can't be 100% as they see fit, it has to relate to the story. The creature, because of the story, has to be a mix between an Alien and a human. An Alien that has no nose and a human with a nose pointing down shouldn't create a creature with a noodle-like nose pointing up - because such a feature shouldn't exist in the genetic of neither parents.
      Also, if the result (the noodle pointing up) has a ridicule / grotesque / funny aspect, for a movie that aims at a fantastic / horror feeling, it may be a screw up.
      Anyway, it's just my personal opinion, I don't pretend to be right.

    The moment the alien franchise was almost murdered. What a crap concept. It made me nauseous.

      The Alien franchise was murdered when they decided to make a 3rd sequel.

    • @RIDDICK0911
      @RIDDICK0911 6 лет назад +3

      AR is the third sequel.
      A3 is the second.
      _
      ALIEN3 Assembly Cut is great, by the way.
      One of the best sequels to a movie ever made.

    • @al112v4
      @al112v4 6 лет назад +2

      ^ You forgot about Aliens. That's the sequel. And no, A3 still suck.

    • @RIDDICK0911
      @RIDDICK0911 6 лет назад +4

      A sequel is something that is second by its nature, a continuation.
      AR is the 4th film and the 3rd sequel.
      __
      A3 only sucks for people who either didn't watch it for many years or don't like the fact that it isn't a happy cookie-cutter for their mushy brains.

    • @al112v4
      @al112v4 6 лет назад

      A3 sucks not because it doesn't have a happy ending. It sucks because it's a bad movie, like the Star Wars Prequels. David Fincher could agree on that sentence.

      You are right and wrong. They did an amazing job on this alien creature hybrid, but it was the wrong direction to take the franchise from a writing point of view... everyone wanted an alien-alien for the finale, but got something that felt it belonged in a different movie. But, so far as the work done to bring it to life, amazing, and creative writing choices have nothing to do with the effects team.
      With or without this creature, the 4th movie felt a bit too unreal and too removed from the grit of all the original 3. It has great moments and ideas, cast etc, but the idea was a bit wrong... forcing Ripley back was probably the big fault that got in the way of the writing (as much as I love Ripley). The concept that spawned this creature stems from that.
      Bravo to the effects team though, you can't fault the work and character they put into it.
      By the way, no one likes caps locks posts, in case you missed the memo. :)
