    Perhaps the best video yet guys! I am currently studying my MSc and it is only at this level of study that motor control has been a focus. In my opinion this needs to be taught more at BSc level hopefully were starting to see a shift in our approach. Really glad you put this channel together, keep up the great work.

      Maybe I can add: I also agree that this should be taught way more on BSc level, because you see so many back patients in practice - especially ones with impaired motor control - and without this knowledge it's hard to effectively treat them!

      that's crazy that you haven't learned it at BSc level.. I'm currently a second semester BSc Student and it's already part of our current curriculum. On a side note: Hannu Luomajoki is a professor at our school

    @gianluca7317 7 лет назад +1

    sorry for my english. first your video is awesome and professional. second, the movement's tests shoud be explained before the executation or just say to the patient to do this movement ?

    • @Physiotutors
      @Physiotutors  7 лет назад +2

      Thanks!
      All patients received standardized instructions. For example in the prone knee bend test the assignment was: "please bend your knee as far as you can without moving your back" and: "keep your back in neutral position, do not let it move while bending the leg", If the patient did not understand how to perform the test, it was explained again and demonstrated by the examiner. If the patient was still performing the test incorrectly, it was permitted.
      You can find the research reference in the video description as usual

    Can you explain in more detail how the amount of lateral shift is measured in the single leg stance test? Are we measuring distance the belly button deviates from midline? I quite confused why is the ruller placed at 9cm at the belly button on top photo to start with and why is it placed at 24.5 cm on bottom photo?

    Luomajoki's article indicates that the patient is instructed on how to perform the test, prior to the test. If they initially fail but pass after instruction, then it is not a significant MCD. It would seem to me that this indicates that they have the ability for control and they will need repetition by way of the exercises to make it a fixed pattern. So either way, rehab is indicated, albeit this patient will be easier to train than the one who fails before and after instruction. Do you agree?

    • @Physiotutors
      @Physiotutors  6 лет назад

      If patients are able to control the different movements, we don't consider their issue in the motor control area.
      In this case we'd rather look at other factors that might contribute to the fact that a patient keeps on adapting a posture or movement that will keep sensitizing him. Could be false beliefs about their back, movement-related fear etc.

    Sorry but im confused, i just wanna know if the patient cannot do these movements?do they need to repeat it unti he can?because this is an assessment right?so if they cannot do it each properly what are the indication??could they possibly have a non specific low back pain??

    • @Physiotutors
      @Physiotutors  4 года назад

      First you show them and they try to reproduce. If they're not able to you can help by hands on instruction. It's an assessment for a motor control impairment that can be used in aspecific low back pain

      @@Physiotutors so you mean if they cannot do each of that it means that they have low back pain??

    • @koigokoroinsfired3302
      @koigokoroinsfired3302 3 года назад

      @@piczart2645 it means they have higher risks of developing non specific low back pain and that some exercices could improve their motor control of the back. You might not be able to do these exercices without necessarily having low back pain. Pain is a symptom, not a disease. :)

    • @Physiotutors
      @Physiotutors  5 лет назад +1

      If you mean exercises focusing on motor control - yes, there is evidence that these are helpful in patients with low back pain.
      There is also evidence, however, that they are not any better than a generalized strengthening program for the back. (Saragiotto et al. 2018)
