  • @ActuallyAnanya
    @ActuallyAnanya 2 года назад +54

    So in the book for the majority of the story neither Pat (Bradley Cooper's character) or us readers have any idea why he was institutionalised, he genuinely thinks Nikki is just spending some time away from him until he gets his life together, and over the course of the story he remembers what happened and why that song annoys him in bits and pieces and the final realisation kind of makes him spiral. It's written really well that when you find out what happened you feel as much shock as Pat does because his internal monologue has been selling you this idea of his and Nikki's relationship being salvageable (and worth saving) so we really feel what he feels in that moment.
    Also in the book he's been institutionalised not just for 8 months but 4 YEARS and he also doesn't realise just how long he's been gone, so realising that slowly also takes a toll. Nikki has fully moved on from him and doesn't attend the dance showcase in the book. The movie also focuses more on the romance than the book, the book is more about Pat and his mental health struggles and recovery and how this affects his relationships with everyone, not mostly Tiffany.

    Its Robert Dineros character had Bipolar OCD, Bradley Cooper has Bipolar PTSD. Its a repeat of untreated mental health in the family. Meeting Jennifer Lawrence who had Depression, PTSD, maybe some Bipolar, helps him connect with someone struggling with similar issues. And Chris Tucker is Chris Tucker

    I’m bipolar which is what he has and when he’s going on about the wedding video is exactly what mania is. It makes you hyper focused and agitated. There are two types I have bipolar 2 which is more depression and hypomania then there’s bipolar1 which has more extreme mania which he has. It can be debilitating. The movie isn’t completely accurate but close. Definitely the best out there for showing bipolar disorder.

My family makes jokes that how much my life lined up with the movie. OCD, break up 5year relationship, met the love of my life afterwards, who happens to be a dancer. Even during his episode, I remember feeling so explosive. A lot of it is difficult to watch, but it’s still my comfort movie cause I’m not crazy. @tuttleberry 8 месяцев назад

      Jones is an actor first, and Tucker is a comedian first. It's a no brainer - you're right - but - I can see how they would want the character to be a comedy foil and because of that, having Tucker play the role is a safe or conservative casting selection

    Why is this drama film often wrongly described as a comedy, why was Jennifer Lawrence cast to play Tiffany when she was obviously far too young for her role & why does the film have a gambling subplot that's unrelated to the main plot?

    • @theshadowfax239
      @theshadowfax239 Год назад +2

      1. I don't know
      2. Because she's a very talented actor, it's questionable that she's too young, Hollywood likes to cast very young women in movies, and she won an academy award for the role so she was obviously good in the part.
      3. This movie is about mental illness and relationships, the excessive gambling is part of a mental illness and affects people's relationships. It's not unrelated in the slightest, it's super obviously related.

    • @davidz3879
      @davidz3879 Год назад +2

      @@theshadowfax239 It's not questionable. The vast majority of 22-year-olds haven't married, let alone been widowed.
      Naomi Watts should've won. The only reason she didn't is because she isn't American.
